FARRELL, HOLLANDER, and TE KANAWA HIGHLIGHT BROOKLYN PHILHARMONIA 1974/75 CONCERT SEASON
Final dates and soloists for the 1974/75 Maj or Concert Series of the Brooklyn Philharmonia have been announced by LUKAS FOSS, Music Director and Conductor. Mr. Foss has asked Soprano, EILEEN FARRELL, to join the Philharmonia
for its opening concert on Saturday, November 23, at 8:00 P.M. in the Opera House of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The program includes Wagner's
"Wesendonck Lieder" and the "Prelude and Liebestod" from .;;.;;.,;;.;;;,.;.-.;;,;;.-.;.;..;.Tristan und Isolde,...... as well as the Bruckner "G Minor Overture" and the Strauss "Don Juan".
A special holiday presentation of Handel's THE MESSIAH is slated for
Sunday afternoon, December 22, at 3:00 P.M. with Soprano Betty Jones, Contralto
Louise Parker anti Bass~ Benjemin Matthews, with three combined choruses from
Brooklyn and Manhattan.
New Metropolitan Opera discovery KIRI TE KANAWA is the soprano
soloist for Mr, Foss's first Marathon Concert of the Season ~- featuring music
composed. in and inspired by Vienna, incluC!ing the rarely performed "Glorreiche
--Augenhlick" Cantata by Beethoven (which is an ode to Vienna) and works by Haydn,
Mozart, Schubert~ Brahms, Berg, Webern and Schoenberg -- Saturday, January 18
from 7:00 to 11:00 P.M. Also reatured: the Singer twins and the Gregg Smith Singers.
A Par~ Marathon follows on Tuesday, March 4th, with Pianist LORIN HOLLANDER as guest artist. Chamber and orchestra works by Debussy, Ravel,
Berlioz, Boulez, Couperin, Poulenc, Saint-Saens, an~ Satie, as well as the
Venusberg Music of Wagner and Mozart's Paris Overture, will be performed on
this gala program which will run from 7:00 to 11:00 P.M. Also featured:

The final concert of this series wlll be an ~-Beethoven Program on Sunday, April 6th, at 8:00 P.M. in Carnegil: ~' the Philharmonia's only Manhattan appearance of the season, with Violinist MASUKO USHIODA and Cellist
LAURENCE LESSER joining LUKAS FOSS at the piano for a performance of the
