CHURCH OF SAINT-SATURNIN Built in the 12th century on the site of a Gallo-Roman chapel, the church of Saint-Saturnin is dedicated to the bishop of Toulouse, martyr, whose cult was broadcast in Ile-de-France by pilgrims. Over and over again, the Gothic building has preserved its magnificent roman bell-tower of the 12th century, classified as a historical monument. Inside, the oldest vaults date from the 13th century. Located on the north side, the facade is adorned, at the beginning of the 20th century, with a porch of flamboyant Gothic style.

HOTEL DES COIGNARD Country house at the end of the 17th century, this mansion is occupied in the 18th century by the Coignard, dynasty printers of the king. Jean-Baptiste Coignard II printed the first edition of the dictionary of the French Academy and his son Jean-Baptiste III became secretary to the king and preserver of mortgages. Acquired by the city in 1914, the building houses an exhibition space, the Carré des Coignard, and the Conservatory of Music and Drama Francis Poulenc. HOUSE OF ARTISTS Formerly a castle built in the 17th century, the building became a retirement home for artists in 1940 thanks to the generosity of the Smith-Champion family. PAVILLON BALTARD Only survivor of the destruction of the Halles of Paris in 1972, after the transfer of the markets to Rungis, Victor Baltard’s pavilion was reinstalled on the site where the castle of King Charles V stood in the Middle Ages. Classified as a historic monument in 1982 , today it is a welcoming place for shows, events, exhibitions, film shoots, business seminars, etc. ARCHITECTURE BEFORE THE 1st WORLD WAR AND ART NOUVEAU Neo-Baroque or neo-Renaissance villas, regionalist, from the last quarter of the 19th century, were replaced by the Art Nouveau constructions from 1900. Thanks to the architects Georges Damotte and especially Nachbaur father and son, Nogent is rich in this heritage.

PATRIMOINE ART DÉCO Do not miss the visit of Rue Lepoutre, the many constructions of the architect Gérard Tissoire. Another architect, Hillion, is the author of the schools on rue Bauÿn de Perreuse, the buildings on 25 boulevard de Strasbourg or 14 Grande Rue Charles de Gaulle.

CINEMA ROYAL PALACE Located in Grande Rue Charles de Gaulle, the Royal Palace cinema was built at the beginning of the 20th century by Albert Klein, a passionate furniture merchant of the 7th art. Completed in 1921, the facade is listed in the additional inventory of historical monuments. GUINGUETTES AND NAUTICAL FEASTS

ogent-sur-Marne is known throughout the world N(or almost), it owes this notoriety to the Belle Époque and to the vogue of outdoor leisure on the banks of the Marne. The “guinguettes” and the festive aspect associated with them, have made the reputation of this haven of water and greenery privileged in the eastern Paris. Some points of reference… CANOEING AND SWIMMING The banks of the Marne attracted Parisians as early as the 19th century. Around 1830 the boating appeared. Boys and girls parody the sailors, their outfits and their songs. Then it is the turn of the nautical clubs to develop. The great rowing clubs started racing at the turn of the end of the century.

GUINGUET AND GUINGUETTES The first guinguettes opened around 1860, prized by Parisians who came easily by train. The name comes from the guinguet, wine of very poor quality produced by the vine growers of Île-de-France. The guinguettes are then drinking places. To sell the cheaper wine, they are established beyond the grant and especially on the banks of the Marne. They become festive places, animated by music and dance.

PAINTERS ARE INSPIRED BY IT Painters such as Corot, Cézanne, Pissar o, Le Douanier Rousseau and Dufy are inspired by this bucolic and joyful setting. The bosses of the guinguettes and the municipalities organize parties, nautical races, jousting, competitions of flowery boats ... The edges of Marne become one of the places of emergence of leisure of the 20th century.

AH ! LE PETIT VIN BLANC

ogent owes his world fame to Jean Dréjac, author of the Nlyrics of the famous song Ah! Le Petit vin blanc, on a music by Charles Borel-Clerc. Written in 1943, at a few miles from Nogent, this song is at the origin of the festive vocation of the city and the creation of the festival in 1954.

Interpreted by Lina Margy, the song broke the record sales of small format scores with 1.5 million copies. It remains the most popular of the repertoire of its author, its composer and its interpreter.

As a tribute to Jean Dréjac, who disappeared in 2003, the City of Nogent inaugurated in 2007 the Petit Vin Blanc square bordered with vines and the Jean Dréjac alley.

JARDIN TROPICAL Over 4 hectares and a half, the tropical garden occupies the site of the colonial test garden, a tool intended to increase, at the end of the 19th century, the productions of the French colonies. Inaugurated in 1907, it hosted several buildings of the colonial exhibition. We can still see the pavilions of Reunion or Tunisia, and elements of the former Indochinese village. Among the vegetation remain tropical species (bamboo, latex tree, persimmons).

LA ROSERAIE DU VAL-DE-MARNE Conservatory alive with old roses, in a wooded park of 14 hectares, the rose garden brings together more than 3,000 species and different varieties of roses. Designed in 1899 by landscaper Édouard André, it is the first western rose garden.
