Many gymnasts around the world are getting ready to participate in a very unique event, The World Gymnaestrada. Some of you have been to Dornbirn before but I know that for many of you, it will be the first time. Maybe also the first time in Austria, the first time in Europe and even the first time you go abroad. For all of us it will be an exciting week where together we will be part of one big Gymnastics Happening! Everyone involved has to prepare and it goes for all of us. I would like to thank the FIG Member Federations that administrate the registrations of participants and then the Local Organising Committee that is working hard to get everything ready for us. It takes years to prepare a one-week event for 20,000 participants with many volunteers actively involved. Please read the information in the Bulletin carefully and and I hope to meet many of you at the Second Information meeting, open for all FIG Member Federations, in September 2018. Margaret Sikkens Ahlquist FIG Gymnastics for All Committee President Proven, New and Anticipation Preparations for the World Gymnaestrada 2019 in Dornbirn are running at full speed in all fields of activity. While we can make use of the experiences gained in 2007, we certain- ly also want to develop and implement several new ideas. Having set an ambitious goal of welcoming more than 60 national federations next year in Austria, we are delighted to see that the positive figures taken from the pre-registrations bring us already very close to such a target. Many participants want to stay again in »their« national villages and meet their hosts and friends from back then once more. This shows us that our concept from 2007 has been successful and is going to be easily accepted another time. Which new ideas can you look forward to? Be surprised and enrich us with various performances and your enthusiasm in gymnastics in a friendly gathering amongst 20,000 people from all over the world – we look forward to meeting YOU. Flood simulations are applications of disaster control, which are used for the development of appropriate flood protection. Adequate simulations require not only the geometry but also the roughness of the Earth’s surface, as well as the roughness of the objects hereon. Usually, the floodplain roughness is based on land use/land cover maps derived from orthophotos. This study analyses the applicability of roughness map derivation approaches for flood simulations based on different datasets: orthophotos, LiDAR data, official land use data, OpenStreetMap data and CORINE Land Cover data.

Bestandsgeschichte Die Akten des Landratsamtes (LRA) Bregenz wurden durch die Bezirkshauptmannschaft (BH) Bregenz zu einem bei der Abfassung dieser Bestandsübersicht, d. i. das Jahr 2002, nicht mehr eruierbaren Zeitpunkt an das Vorarlberger Landesarchiv übergeben. Die Akten waren in Faszikeldeckel verpackt, provisorisch beschriftet und wurden im Keller des Hauptgebäudes des Vorarlberger Landesarchivs (VLA) in der Kirchstraße 28 in Bregenz gelagert. Die klima- tischen Bedingungen in diesem Keller zeichneten sich durch eine hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit (im Jahresschnitt 65 %) und jahreszeitlich bedingte schwankende Temperaturen aus. Der gesamte Bestand wurde von Mai bis November 2002 durch Mitarbeiter des Verwaltungsarchivs im VLA, Herrn Robert Demarki und Dr. Wolfgang Weber, neu bewertet und erschlossen. Im Zuge dieser Arbeiten wurde das Schriftgut der Jahrgänge 1940-1945 des LRA Bregenz von Metallklammern gesäubert, lose Aktenkonvolute in säurefreie Umschläge eingelegt, in säure- freie Schachteln umgebettet und diese neu beschriftet. Das Aktenmaterial ist gleichzeitig einer genauen Prüfung auf Pilz- und Schimmelbefall unterzogen und ggf. skartiert worden. Als Grundlage für die Ablage und Neuverzeichnung der Akten des LRA Bregenz diente der überlieferte Einheitsaktenplan des LRA Bregenz aus dem Jahr 1942, der im Repertorienzim- mer des VLA zugänglich ist. Für die Bau- und Gewerbeakten sind eigene Findbücher überlie- fert, auf die in dieser Auflistung bei den einschlägigen Akten hingewiesen wird. Sie sind ebenfalls im Repertorienzimmer zugänglich. Nicht alle im Aktenplan 1942 verzeichneten Akten waren tatsächlich überliefert, die fehlen- den bzw. nicht überlieferten Akten wurden im Einheitsaktenplan mit einem roten Stempel „SKARTIERT“ ausgewiesen. Als Datum der Vernichtung gilt der 18.11.2002, auch wenn zahlreiche Akten offenbar schon durch die Behörde vernichtet (sic!) und nie an das VLA ab- gegeben wurden.

    SPORTS TOURISM PARTICIPATION AT THE WORLD GYMNAESTRADA: AN EXPRESSION AND EXPERIENCE OF COMMUNITY AND IDENTITY ANGELA WICHMANN A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of Brighton for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy August 2014 This page intentionally left blank. 2 Abstract This PhD thesis is concerned with sports tourism as a way of experiencing a sense of self, belonging and location in the social world. It is about how identity is developed, expressed and experienced when gymnasts interact within their specific sports community while travelling to take part in a non-competitive, international group gymnastics event. In particular, the research aim is to identify and make sense of the meaning participants attach to their involvement in sports event tourism in the context of the 2011 World Gymnaestrada in Lausanne/Switzerland, the purely non- competitive, official world event of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). The research intends to contribute to a more comprehensive and differentiated understanding of participation in sports tourism. It is informed by a rich theoretical framework consisting of the conceptual notion of community, along with identity, Pierre Bourdieu’s ‘habitus’ and Robert Stebbins’ ‘Serious Leisure’. All four concepts address questions of belonging and distinction, of similarity and difference, of access to and membership of a collective, and, last but not least, of locating oneself in the social world. Not only are these and related issues deemed under-researched, yet insightful in the field of sports tourism; they also emerge as significant themes and insights from the socio-historical analysis of the World Gymnaestrada.

Wir müssen uns aber auch vor den Gefahren des Wassers schützen. Wasser als Lebensraum zu erhalten oder auch wieder herzustellen, ist eine weitere wichtige Herausforderung. Die Millionengrenze bei den Jahresnächtigungen konnte überschritten werden und auch die Umsätze waren sehr zufriedenstellend. Die Wintersaison war von sehr guter Schneelage und passendem Wetter geprägt. Auch die Sommersaison konnte mit einem Nächtigungsplus abgeschlossen werden. Es hat sich gezeigt, dass die Marke Lech-Zürs im Qualitätstourismus einen sehr hohen Stellenwert hat und dass unsere Bemühungen bei den Gästen guten Anklang finden.

    A Study of Nineteenth- Century Swedish Medical Gymnastics

    Athens Journal of Sports - Volume 5, Issue 1 – Pages 33-52 Gymnastics as a Remedy: A Study of Nineteenth- Century Swedish Medical Gymnastics By Pia Lundquist Wanneberg This paper examined a form of 19th century globally spread physiotherapy known as Swedish medical gymnastics. The goal of the research was to determine the aim of medical gymnastics, its elements and its performance style. The study also investigated why medical gymnastics had such a large global impact? Applying a qualitative text analysis, the results showed that medical gymnastics, through individually tailored movements, aimed to restore health, which for various reasons had declined. Furthermore, the treatment made particular use of passive movements carried out by someone other than the patient. Even massage was included. However, there were also active movements, under the supervision of or supported by a gymnast. As for the global spread, two factors contributed to this: first, its scientific and philosophical foundations were typical of the period; and second, recent graduates of the Royal Central Gymnastics Institute in Stockholm went abroad to promote Ling gymnastics, the type of gymnastics to which medical gymnastics belonged. Medical gymnastics treatment became an important source of income for both the graduates and the Royal Central Gymnastics Institute. This led, ultimately, to many people coming into contact with this form of gymnastics. Yet another reason was its rootedness, both in the past and in the future, where physical exercise remains of major importance for maintaining or regaining health. Dr. Georg Grabher Kurzer Rückblick und Ausblick Seit der Vorlage der Inventare besonders schutzwürdiger Biotope zwischen 1984 und 1989 sind rund 20 Jahre vergangen. Sie haben zweifellos ihre Spuren in Landschaft und Natur Vorarlbergs hinterlassen. Auch wenn das eine oder andere Naturjuwel dem enormen Zivilisationsdruck im Land weichen musste, unterm Strich ist die Bilanz äußerst positiv. Schutzgebiete sind entstanden wie das Schutzsystem der Streuwiesen in Rheintal und Walgau, das Naturschutzgebiet Mehrerauer Seeufer, die Kernzonen im Biosphärenpark Großwalsertal. Vor allem bewährten sich die Inventare bei Planung und angeschlossenen Behördenverfahren. Der Status der ausgewiesenen Biotope als informelle Vorbehaltsflächen führte zu angepassten Planungen und Rücksichtnahmen.
