FROM FR CHRIS

VERY MANY THANKS for your good kind wishes, cards and gifts this Christmas; may the bless you and your family.

2021 - Rather than wishing you a happy new year I’ll say, “Have a better year and may it improve.” As the vaccine becomes available we hope for better times. In the meantime we must all stay safe. In answer to several queries, the restrictions around tier 4 permit our churches to stay open for mass, so unless the rules change, or the Bishop directs otherwise, there will be a daily mass in our parish. I am very aware of the great work being done by our stewards and cleaners but we really need more volunteers; please contact me if you can help, and the more volunteers there are, the less frequently you will be on the rota.

EPIPHANY falls on Wednesday of this week but due to restrictions I won’t be blessing chalk this year. There’s nothing to prevent you, however, from finding some chalk yourself and writing the following on your front door or somewhere near it: 20+C+M+B+21 – the date with the initials of the three wise men: , , . CMB also stands for Mansionem Benedicat: Christ, bless our house. As you write this on your door you are calling Christ to bless your home and asking that you be open to the hidden Christ who will come to you in everyone who visits you this year. Visitors are few at the moment but look for Christ in the delivery person, or postie, or the carer who visits you.

MASS ON THE EPIPHANY will be at 10am at St. Cuthbert’s and, if possible, I’ll post it on Facebook. My iPhone is failing (lots of use this past year) and I’ve ordered a new one which should arrive on the Epiphany – a belated Christmas present. As long as the churches remain open one of the Sunday masses will be on Facebook.

MANY PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET – one of the many results of the pandemic. If money is a serious issue for you then you might like to try the confidential listening service on 0191 2326953. Don’t let anxiety about money overtake you. Talk to someone; help is possible. I may be able to make a small grant to anyone who is struggling – just email or a phone call. Fr. Chris
