Description
Our journey takes us along the gorgeous coastal road through Castellammare di Stabia and out along the highway to Herculaneum. Herculaneum was destroyed along with Pompeii in 79 AD, and rediscovered in 1709. It was a residential town without Pompeii's commercial importance, surrounded by the villas of the wealthy Romans.When the catastrophe of 79 AD occurred Herculaneum was submerged under a torrent of mud and lava that hardened into a soft tufa (a kind of coarse rock) that preserved many of the timber features and household objects which can be seen today. A large portion of the old Herculaneum is still buried under the modern town and to this day, excavations are still being carried out to discover what treasures lie buried under the rock, to the extent that some families are being rehoused so work can continue.

Named after the beauties that characterize its views, this trail is considered today one of the most beautiful hiking trails of the world, and it stretches along several villages of the famous Amalfi Drive with its 10 KM. A pleasant boat trip along the coast of Sorrento, will take you to the island; here you can freely explore and discover Capri, walking aimlessly in the alleys of the centre, reliving ancient times among the archaeological finds of Villa Jovis or hiking to Monte Solaro. You will have your fill of the wonderful views by boat around the island, and after the Salto di Tiberio, you will see the Faraglioni: it is said that all couples exchanging a kiss under the arch will stay together forever! Numerous fascinating caves, including the Green Grotto, named after the emerald reflections on the water. Among other destinations recommended are the Punta Carena Lighthouse, the second largest in Italy, the Blue Grotto* (entrance fee not included in the excursion price - €13,00 p.p.) and the Natural Arch. During every stop you will have the chance to learn in details about the mountain, the rocks it is made of and the endemic flora.
Mount Epomeo represents Ischia’s hearth and origins too: it generated the most of the island.
Through rocks and graphs you will discover how the mountain arose from the sea thanks to the volcanic activity.
From Mount Epomeo’s peak the view is breathtaking: with good visibility we will be able to admire, apart from Gulf of Naples, Circeo and Pontiane islands.
During the stop on the peak we will go deeper into some historical events connected to the Hermitage and the Church dedicated to Saint Nicholaus.
On the Northern side of the mountain you will observe the side of the island that due to an earthquake during 1883 was completely destroyed.
(From 789 to 690 mts. altitude) From the Hermitage we will reach “Pietra dell’acqua” (water stone) the second highest peak of the Island, where you will admire a masterwork, made to collect and store rainwater.
(From 690 to 400 mts. altitude) Along the path we will show you the mountain endemic flora, comparing it to that growing along the coast, the blossoming during the different seasons including the medical plants, which were used by the hermits living in the Hermitage dug into the peak of the mountain. We will reach green tuff cliff, where the circular erosion of Taffoni created the ideal conditions for the nesting of Peregrin Falcon the fastest animal on Earth.
The path will lead us to penetrate a chestnut forest hiding an enigmatic village made of houses carved into rocks.
