Rome, 16 May 2020 - Following the authorisation obtained, Terna has started investigations for the final project for the 150 kV Sorrento - Vico Equense - Agerola - Lettere interconnection, which will connect the new Sorrento electrical substation and the existing primary cabins in Vico Equense, Agerola and Lettere, which will be adapted to the new voltage levels. In order to carry out all the analyses necessary for the executive design and construction of the works, Terna has recently announced the areas of land affected by the supports and the areas likely to be used to access the line.

The project, which will involve the construction of 35 km of new power lines, 12 km of which in underground cable near the primary cabins, is part of the reorganisation of the electricity grid on the Sorrento Peninsula, which aims to improve the reliability of the electricity system in the area, currently catered for by an old grid dating back to the 1960s. This work will increase safety and quality of service and reduce energy losses from grid transport will be reduced through more efficient use of the electricity transmission system. The launch of the activities for the Sorrento-Vico-Agerola- Lettere interconnection follows the already completed construction of two other connections, namely - and Sorrento - Capri.

Once all the works are finished, it will be possible to demolish about 60 km of 60 kV power lines, of which 20 km are situated inside the Monti Lattari Regional Park. Finally, this work is expected to save a total of 8,000 tonnes in CO2 emissions per year.

Terna intends to organise information sessions with citizens to share all the information on the new works.
