NOTECurrent itinerary might be subject to change according to unpredictable wheather conditions Amalfi Coast Capri-Amalfi-Ischia-Procida Stretching along the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula the Amalfi coast is one of the Mediterranean most breathtaking coastline. Declared one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its undisputed beauty and the uniqueness of its natural landscape, the Amalfi Coast is characterised by the combination between mountain and sea. The mountain plunges steeply into a sea creating charming coves, deep fjords, cliffs, caverns, bays, natural arches and small pebble beaches; natural elements that have created, an enchanting landscape. The roads hug the tight curves of the cliffy coast overlooking blue water that merges with the sky in one vast blue horizon; Typical houses, painted in warm pastel colors, follow the natural slope of the foothills, creating very picturesque “postcard“ villages. This breathtaking landscape combined with the intense scents of the lemon groves, vineyards, bright colors of bougainvillea and the smell of salted-air, creates a unique experience It releases to vsitors pleasant memories and a strong desire to return to this little stretch of heaven on earth. A highlight of the Amalfi coast vacation is a visit to Capri. The glamorous seaside getaway is an enchanting and picturesque island made of limestone rock; the town is a Moorish opera set of shiny white houses, tiny squares, and narrow medieval alleyways hung with flowers. It rests on top of rugged limestone cliffs hundreds of feet above the sea, and on which herds of capre (goats) once used to roam (giving the name to the island). Once, a pleasure dome to Roman emperors and now Italy most glamorous seaside getaway, it is still one of the Mediterranean must-see places. • A Long-Term Analysis of Passenger Flows on a Regional Rail Line
    C. Caropreso et al., Int. J. Transp. Dev. Integr., Vol. 1, No. 3 (2017) 329–338 A LONG-TERM ANALYSIS OF PASSENGER FLOWS ON A REGIONAL RAIL LINE C. Caropreso, C. DI Salvo, M. Botte & L. D’ACIERNO Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, Federico II University of Naples, Italy. Abstract Promoting rail systems can represent a useful policy for rebalancing modal choices and reducing pri- vate car use, especially in high-density contexts. Obviously, an increase in passenger numbers is only possible if generalized costs (i.e. a weighted sum of times and monetary costs) associated to public transport are abated. According to the recent literature and current professional practice, most strategies for achieving this objective are based only on infrastructural interventions which may be unfeasible or inadequate in densely populated contexts. Likewise, the adoption of policies based on replacing exist- ing fleets or reducing fare levels entails increases in national or regional subsidies, which would be difficult to achieve in the current economic climate. Hence, our proposal is based on investigating effects on travel demand arising from the replacement or upgrading of existing signalling systems (both in terms of trackside and on-board equipment). In- deed, the recent European Union policy to create a single transnational interoperable rail network im- poses the development of innovative signalling systems. In this context, since cost–benefit analysis has to be implemented to verify the economic and environmental feasibility of the proposed intervention strategy, an appropriate method should be developed to estimate passenger flows according to future configurations. In this article, we propose a method to determine travel demand in current and future contexts by appropriately processing data from Italy’s national census on mobility, population growth forecasts and turnstile counts.

  • Geomorphological Evolution of Phlegrean Volcanic Islands Near Naples, Southern Italy1
Berlin .Stuttgart Geomorphological evolution of Phlegrean volcanic islands near Naples, southern Italy1 by G.AIELLO, D.BARRA, T.DE PIPPO, C.DONADIO, and C.PETROSINO with 9 figures and 5 tables Summary. Using volcanological, morphological, palaeoecological and geoarchaeological data we reconstructed the complex evolution of the island volcanic system of Procida-Vivara, situated west of Naples betweenthe lsland of lschia and the PhlegreanFields, far the last 75 ky. Late Pleistocenemorphological evolution was chiefly controlled by a seriesof pyroclas tic eruptions that resulted in at least eight volcanic edifices, mainly under water. Probably the eruptive centresshifted progressively clockwise until about 18 ky BP when volcanic develop ment on the islands ceased. The presenceof stretches of marine terraces and traces of wave cut notches, both be low and abovè'current sea levels, the finding of exposed infralittoral rnicrofossils, and the identification of three palaeo-surfacesburied by palaeosoilsindicates at least three differen tial uplift phases. These phases interacted with postglacial eustaticfIuctuations, and were sep arated by at least two periods of generai stability in vertical movements. A final phase of ground stability, characterisedby the deposition of Phlegrean and lschia pyroclastics, start ed in the middle Holocene. Finally, fIattened surfacesand a sandy tombolo developedup to the present-day. Recent archaeological surveys and soil-borings at Procida confirm the presence of a lagoon followed by marshland at the back of a sandy tombolo that were formed after the last uplift between the Graeco-Roman periodandthe15di_16dicentury. These areaswere gradu ally filled with marine and continental sedimentsup to the 20di century. ' Finally, our investigation showed that the volcanic sector of Procida-Vivara in the late Pleistocene-Holocenewas affected by vertical displacementswhich were independent of and less marked than the concurrent movement in the adjacent sectors of lschia and of the Phle grean Fields.
