An Act of Spiritual Communion

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the bread of life and the one true vine. I believe that you are truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. I seek you. I worship and adore you. Since I cannot receive you in the Eucharistic bread and wine, I pray that you will come into my heart and soul, that I may be united to you, by your all-powerful and ever-present Holy Spirit. Let me receive you, and be nourished by you. THE BLACK VIRGIN OF MONTSERRAT AND ST IGNATIUS According to Catholic tradition, the statue of the Black Virgin of Montserrat was carved by St. Luke around 50 AD and brought to . It was later hidden from the Moors in a cave, where it was rediscovered in 880 AD. According to the legend of the discovery, which was first recorded in the 13th century, the statue was discovered by shepherds. They saw a bright light and heard heavenly music that eventually led them to the grotto and the statue. The Bishop of Manresa, present at the discovery, suggested that it be moved to Manresa, but the small statue was discovered to be so heavy it could not be lifted. Thus the Virgin had indicated her will to stay on Montserrat to be venerated there. Many miracles were reported through the intercession of the Virgin Mary at Montserrat. Shortly after his conversion, was determined to join the army of Christ. In pilgrim’s garb, Ignatius kept an all-night vigil before Our Lady. He placed his sword before the Mother of God, stood, knelt, sang hymns, and prayed with the other pilgrims. Ignatius began his new life in God under the inspiration of the Black and Child Jesus A historian wrote: "In all ages the sinful, the suffering, the sorrowful, have laid their woes at the feet of Our Lady of Montserrat, and none have ever gone away unheard or unaided." Let us bring our own needs and prayers and place them at the feet of our Lady to present to her Son. REFLECTION FAITH FORMATION As we continue living in the realities of our time, let us learn from the example of St Benedict and his monastic communities as to how we might encounter God more and more in our daily lives.

Cultivate Silence St. Benedict wrote, “Speaking and teaching are the master’s task; the disciple is to be silent and listen” (RB 6:8). St. Benedict wrote, “Place your hope in God alone. If you notice something good in yourself, give credit to God, not to yourself, but be certain that the evil you commit is always your own and yours to acknowledge” (RB 4:41-43). Being a humble person means being grateful for the blessings and opportunities that God gives you and recognizing that your gifts and talents have God as their source. Allow daily struggles, and even falling into sin, to be an invitation to humility, where you admit without hesitation that you must depend entirely on God’s grace, and not on your strength.
