We provide financial assistance to artists, arts organisations, local authorities and others for artistic purposes. We offer advice and information on the arts to government and to a wide range of individuals and organisations. As an advocate for the arts and artists, we undertake projects and research, often in new and emerging areas of practice, and increasingly in co-operation with partner organisations. Arts Council funding from the exchequer for 2006 was €72.313 million. An Chomhairle Ealaíon Ár ról agus ár gcuid oibre Is í an Chomhairle Ealaíon an ghníomhaireacht a cheap Rialtas na hÉireann chun na healaíona a fhorbairt. Cuirimid cúnamh airgid ar fáil d'ealaíontóirí, d'eagraíochtaí ealaíon, d'údaráis áitiúla agus do pháirtithe eile chun críche ealaíne. Cuirimid comhairle agus eolas i dtaobh na n-ealaíon ar fáil don rialtas agus do raon leathan daoine aonair agus eagraíochtaí. Agus muid ag saothrú ar son na n-ealaíon, tugaimid faoi thionscadail agus thaighde. Baineann cuid mhór díobh seo le réimsí nua den chleachtas ealaíne atá ag teacht chun cinn agus is minic a dhéantar an obair i gcomhar le heagraíochtaí comhpháirteacha. Fuair an Chomhairle Ealaíon €72.313 milliún de mhaoiniú ón státchiste i 2006. Saitama Triennale 2016 Press Release First announcement of artists (28 individuals/groups) October 6, 2015 Saitama Triennale Executive Committee On the selection of artists For Saitama Triennale 2016, I have approached the selection process with the intention of choosing "art projects" more than choosing "artists." In other words, while the "who" is of course important, I think the "what" that the artist will do is most important. Thus, with the cooperation of the project directors and in accordance with our theme of "Envisioning the Future!" I am now selecting artists from Japan and abroad whose work I intuitively believe can be relied upon to offer visions of possible futures, and I am engaging with those artists to develop plans for their projects. Today we are announcing the names of some of those artists. • JŪRMALA Your MICE Destination 10 REASONS to CHOOSE JŪRMALA AS YOUR MICE DESTINATION
JŪRMALA your MICE destination 10 REASONS TO CHOOSE JŪRMALA AS YOUR MICE DESTINATION UNDISCOVERED 1. GEM According to the MICE global trends, the corporate clients are looking for the uncommon, distinguished destinations and experience to make the delegates feel the exclusiveness of the event. Jūrmala is a European resort “off the beaten track” with a great MICE destination potential – safe, green, sustainable, conveniently accessible, affordable, with well- designed infrastructure. Still undiscovered enough, still special, still unique. INTERNATIONAL 2. ACCESSIBILITY Jūrmala is located just 25 km away from the Latvian capital of Riga and only in 15-minute drive from Riga International Airport that offers more than 60 direct flights. In low season, the traffic to/from Jūrmala is always light and predictable that helps to manage the time efficiently and avoid wasting precious minutes in traffic. SIZE 3. MATTERS Although Jūrmala population is just a bit more than 55 000, it is the second largest city in Latvia after Riga. Thus, population density figures are very inviting for the visitors who are looking for the privacy and their own special snug place on the beach after the day’s hard work. When it comes to event planning, the advantage of the small well-planned city infrastructure is obvious. As the main hotels, restaurants and special venues are concentrated in the city center within walking distance, there is no need to worry about the transfers. Another advantage for the organizers, as A penny saved is a penny gained. SOCIAL PROGRAM 4. AND TEAM-BUILDING ACTIVITIES Be it a workshop for the narrow-field professionals or international conference, the delegates are always looking forward to the unofficial networking opportunities and exciting team building activities to get more personal with their colleagues.

Art in Odd Places 2012: MODEL will take place from October 5 to October 15, 2012, along 14th Street in Manhattan from Avenue C to the Hudson River. The festival will feature 100+ artists’ projects from New York and beyond, who will apply their practice to AiOP’s unconventional structure inserting art into daily life to proclaim 14th Street as the largest and longest MODEL runway in the world – the biggest festival to date. MODEL intends to take pedestrians off their predictable paths and move them into a new awareness of their everyday landscape. MODEL citizens were encouraged to shape the unnoticed planes of the 14th Street geography, imagining the possibilities of what could be. Taking on another MODEL itself, Art in Odd Places presents a larger dynamic curatorial team than previous years that includes Guest Lead Curator Edwin Ramoran, Guest Curators, Raquel de Anda, Christine Licata, and Shaun J. Wright. PRESS PREVIEW: Thursday, October 4, 2012, 4-6pm at Parsons New School of Design, in the lobby of 2 W 13 Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues).

  • CONCEPTS and MOTIFS of LANDSCAPE in Contemporary Latvian Sculpture Ruta Čaupova
CONCEPTS and MOTIFS OF LANDSCAPE In Contemporary Latvian Sculpture Ruta Čaupova The notion landscape, if we treat it as a complex phenomenon, encompassing its mythological background, its ecological, geo-historical and cultural parameters as well as immaterial factors, the ways and levels of its mental perception, is one of the focal points of those traditions, shared values and views that constitute our links with the world around us, our personal, human and national identity. Every nation and community has its own deep-rooted vision of nature and local scenery elements. The inevitable, everlasting co-existence and confronta- tion of the geo-historical time of the Earth with the fleeting, transitory time limits of man's individual life and his mundane activities have always involved universal ideas and their local reflections, macro and micro levels of conception. Throughout the 20th century and in its second half in particular the spread- ing of the so-called green thinking, the attempts to regain a holistic worldview in futurology and natural sciences on one hand and a threatening expansion of the destructive potential of modern technologies on the other hand, have added new dimensions to the role connected with the artistic perception of the Earth, its geological history and landscape scenery. Traditionally Latvian literature, poetry, music and also visual arts have been and still are influenced by a poetic, often rather idealistic vision of nature and landscape that comes from the deepest layers of the traditional agrarian culture
