The Government of in the year 2009, decided to set up a University solely for the purpose of preserving, propagating and promoting various forms of music in prevailing since time immemorial. The University was proposed to be set up in the cultural capital of Karnataka. Mysore has a proud history of being the haven for various musicians, dramatists, painters etc., largely patronized by the erstwhile rulers of Mysore, the Wadiyars.

st When the legend of Hindustani music, Dr. Gangubai Hangal, passed away on 21 July 2009, the then Government not only honoured her with a , it also decided to name the proposed Karnataka State Music University after the legend, as a mark of respect to the empowered singer who had humble beginnings but by sheer dint of hard labour and dedication rose to the soaring heights of Hindustani classical music.

Thus began the University now known nationwide as “Karnataka State Dr.Gangubai Hangal Music and performing Arts University”. The University also had humble beginnings akin to the person after whom it is named and now has successfully completed 10 years of hardships, achievements, laurels. Many a citation, award adorns its show case.

The University is now a lodestone to young aspirants who dream of achieving in the field of music, dance, drama, folk art forms. The University offers 10 different courses for its students and scholars. The University has adopted the vision that is “To preserve and develop the Ideological knowledge sources in the midst of globalisation and liberalistion.”

Padma Vibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal:

Gangubai Hangalji , a legendary musician of genre of Hindustani Music was known for her deep and powerful voice. She was one of the legendary disciples of Guru . In spite of several obstacles which came her way, Gangubai Hangalji blossomed into a singer of repute due to her unflinching devotion, struggle and dedication. Having a music career spanning more than 80 years, she has enthralled the audience not only in the state but also in the entire nation. Recognizing her accomplishments she was awarded with innumerable doctorates and awards, which include Karnataka Sangeet Nritya Academy Award, Sangeet Nataka Academy Award and the PadmaVibhushan. Gangubaiji belongs to district in the state of Karnataka. Her personal and professional achievements inspire and continue to inspire large number of students and lovers of Hindustani Music. Her love for Hindustani Music is exhibited by the sheer passion with which she narrates her past. She strongly desired that there should be a systematic method to teach, promote and propagate Hindustani Music all over the world. She wished that budding Hindustani Music students should be given an opportunity to learn Hindustani Classical Music. Recognizing her achievements, her service to the field of arts and her wishes, the Government of Karnataka named this exclusive university in her memory as a tribute to her. Motto of the competitions:

Purpose of conducting, “Samskruthika Kala Prathibhotsava” an exclusive Cultural Competition for the Indian universities/ Institutions.

th March 5 , being the birth anniversary of Dr. Gangubai Hangal, under whose name the university is established, a unique university of its kind, has decided to conduct various th cultural competitions. In 2019, on the occasion of the 106 birth Anniversary of Dr. Gangubai Hangalji, for the first time in the history of the University, several competitions were conducted at state level. This year, 2020, being the Tin (Tenth) Anniversary of the University, the competitions are proposed to be conducted at the national level.

Registration Fee: The registration fee is fixed as follows:

a) Team Registration: Rs.300/- (Per head. For Example if a team consists of 20 members inclusive of Accompanists and Team Managers, the registration fee will be 20X300=6000/-)

The fest commences on 03-03-2020 with a formal inauguration at 5.30pm and the th valedictory is scheduled at 5.30pm on 05 March, 2020. You are requested to send the th entries as early as possible, but not later than 24 February 2020 by forwarding completed Annexure (I to V) with applicable fee. All other documents of proof can be submitted during Registration. All the updates and important announcements will be notified on KSGH Music and Performing Arts University’s official website, www.musicuniversity.ac.in

Due date for Registration: Last dates to receive form No.1 (Team Registration) th along with supporting documents and applicable registration fee is 24 February 2020.

Identity Card:

The Participants should carry Valid Identity Cards with Photograph, duly signed by the appropriate authorities along with two stamp size photographs.

All participating Universities/Institutions are requested to send their E-mail IDs to [email protected] well in advance expressing their willingness to participate.

Travelling Expenses:

No TA/DA will be provided by the host university. Accommodation and Food will be provided by the host university. (On spot registered University/Institutions are not accommodated by the Host University they have to make their own arrangements.)
