Angie Dahle, Business Development Specialist for Career Solutions presented Specialist Presentation to the Program Committee about her current role within Career Solutions. Angie has been with the agency for 17 years and moved into her new role about a year ago. Her main responsibilities include: Marketing – flyers, website, social media, press release, annual reports Recruiting – employees, interns, volunteers, board/committee members, program participants and others 1 Program Committee Meeting – 01.10.18 Attachment 3.A. Agenda Item Summary Action Workforce Development/Community Events – sector specific job fairs (healthcare, transportation, manufacturing) Employer Connections – facilitate the HR Networking Group where the group shares ideas and best practices. Angie also performs employer site visits Rural Career Counseling Coordinator (RC3) – this is a grant split between Career Solutions and CMJTS to share best practices and communication with other RC3 coordinators about career pathways in schools Supervision – Angie oversees the agency’s VISTA Coordinator . With the name change from Stearns‐Benton Employment & Training Council to Career Solutions, all documents needed to be updated so Angie is working with a graphic designer to develop our new brand for Career Solutions. Angie then provided marketing samples. T. Biery stated the agency name change has been as frugal. This includes working through the process with LegalCorp to get an attorney, using marketing students – some who are website designers too. Angie then showed the Program Committee members the new website. Angie explained the upcoming job fairs/community events she is assisting with: Tour of Manufacturing (recently completed) . 7 different manufacturers. Transportation was provided to the different locations. The group was able to secure a grant to pay for one of the busses and Trobec’s provided a bus for free. Resume Share/Network Happy Hour: October 24th . This is for employers to share the resumes they were unable to hire but saw great potential in the jobseeker. The goal was for employers to network and share resumes of the talent they met but did not hire. Health Career Fair: October 26th . This is held at the Math & Science Academy were 198 out of the 200 students are of Somali descent. The goal of the event is to get these students interested in healthcare. Angie is looking for more healthcare employers to participant. T. Bohnen recommended connecting with CentraCare. 2 Program Committee Meeting – 01.10.18 Attachment 3.A. Agenda Item Summary Action Community OutPost: November 1st New American Job Fair: November 8th . This is event is held by the Immigrant Employment Connection Group and the job fair will be located at the St. Cloud Workforce Center. Construct Tomorrow: January 16th . In the process of recruiting students. A Program Committee member asked if all of these events are posted on the agency website. Angie stated we do not at this point, but would like to add it as a future website enhancement. A member asked how Angie’s position differs from Della’s position. Della’s position focuses around Region 3 (which is comprised of 13 counties) whereas Angie is focused on Stearns & Benton Counties. Angie’s role is more hands on and meets with clients individually. T. Biery stated herself and Barb, from CMJTS, meets with Della on a monthly basis to ensure there is minimal overlapping of job duties. Della is also focuses more on workforce development, economic strategies and regional planning duties. If anyone has further questions, Kari will send out Angie’s contact information to the committee members. Committee Work . CDL Training Discussion – T. Biery notified the Program Committee members that Transportation Center of Excellence (TCE) is closing. The letter TCE provided focused around the Workforce Centers (WFC) having a drop in funding which resulted in few students entering the program. Prior to this announcement, Career Solutions asked TCE to create a Class B program but it was not created. For all WFC’s, during the summer months, there is a transition period where we need to spend down the 2016 funds before receiving the new funds; but the new funds do not come until about 3‐4 weeks later. So the WFC needs to be contentious on how they spend down the remainder of their funds until the new funds have been received. It also depends on the clientele’s career paths and what they are interested in. The CDL program is only 5 weeks long but it is around $5,000 and it is a non‐ credit training (credentialed training but not college credit based) so students are not allowed to apply for financial aid. If the college turns the program into a credit class, then the program will take longer. 3 Program Committee Meeting – 01.10.18 Attachment 3.A. Agenda Item Summary Action . T. Biery stated the Career Solution clients had better success receiving their CDL license and obtaining a job at TCE versus St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC). Since TCE closing their doors, SCTCC is looking to re‐open and re‐vamping their previous CDL program. T. Biery met with SCTCC staff to inform them of the additional initiatives implemented at TCE, such as hosting job fairs, connections with employers and recommended they implement additional benefits to the students. M. Eitchen stating there is no CDL programs offered within a 60 mile radius of St. Cloud and there is a huge need for drivers in this area. S. Wallner stated SCTCC is hosting a Regional Counselor meeting on November 8th. He stated there is a time and a place when a 4 year degree is needed but not everyone needs one to succeed. A 2 year degree may be economically better for the student. T. Bohnen stated the Chamber is looking to bring back their Teachers in Business Program. During the summer, teachers have off so the Chamber places them into businesses and provide a stipend for 80 hours of completed work. T. Biery stated we would like to request Partner for Student Success (PFSS) to Motion: S. Wallner made be a future presenter to discuss how they can engage and involve students the motion to approve the into the trades industry. 2018 Meeting Calendar. 2018 Proposed Meeting Calendar – T. Biery stated Career Solutions is Seconded by: K. Kirchner. proposing the Program Committee meeting be moved to the 2nd Wednesday Motion carried. at 8:00am. Request motion to approve. Kari will send out the calendar invites out as soon as the Joint Powers Board & Local Workforce Development Board approves the final schedule.
