ZooKeys 453: 1–17. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.453.8605 Abstract Two new species of the genus Zilchistrophia Weyrauch, 1960 are described from Eastern Ecuadorian rain forest: Zilchistrophia hilaryae sp. n. and Z. shiwiarorum sp. n. These two new species extend the distribu- tion of the genus considerably northwards, because congeners have been reported from Peru only. For the first time we present anatomical data (radula, buccal mass, morphology of the foot and the genital struc- ture) of Zilchistrophia species. According to these, the genus belongs to the family Scolodontidae, sub- family Scolodontinae (=“Systrophiini”). The previously assumed systematic relationship of Zilchistrophia with the Asian Corillidae and Plectopylidae based on the similarly looking palatal plicae is not supported. Abstract: Peru is an ecologically diverse country, with 84 life zones in the Holdridge system and 18 ecological regions (including two marine). 1910 molluscan species have been recorded. The highest number corresponds to the sea: 570 gastropods, 370 bivalves, 36 cephalopods, 34 polyplacoforans, 3 monoplacophorans, 3 scaphopods and 2 aplacophorans (total 1018 species). The most diverse families are Veneridae (57spp.), Muricidae (47spp.), Collumbellidae (40 spp.) and Tellinidae (37 spp.). Biogeographically, 56 % of marine species are Panamic, 11 % Peruvian and the rest occurs in both provinces; 73 marine species are endemic to Peru. Land molluscs include 763 species, 2.54 % of the global estimate and 38 % of the South American esti- mate. The most biodiverse families are Bulimulidae with 424 spp., Clausiliidae with 75 spp. and Systrophiidae with 55 spp. In contrast, only 129 freshwater species have been reported, 35 endemics (mainly hydrobiids with 14 spp. The paper includes an overview of biogeography, ecology, use, history of research efforts and conser- vation; as well as indication of areas and species that are in greater need of study. -

E-mail: [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract: Systrophia argentina (Strobel, 1874) n. comb. is here re-described 150 years after its discovery. The specimens were found in the Argentine Precordillera (Quebrada San Isidro, Mendoza province, Argentina), at 2.000 m, near the typical locality of the species, here restricted to the Angostura or garganta (gullet) of Villa Vicencio and Casa de Piedra. It is the southernmost distribution of the genus. This snail has a shell of medium size, planispiral, with six whorls; radula with central plate tricuspid, and latero-marginal teeth aculeate, formula: 13 – C – 13; vagina short, spermathecal duct reaching the distal extreme of the vagina, near the atrium; penial sheath long, penis occupying most of the penial sheath, epiphallus with a retractor muscle adhered to its extreme, large and quadrangular gland attached to the penial sheath; atrium very short. S. argentina is the only species of Systrophia L. Pfeiff er, 1846), Bulimulus diaphanus fraterculus (Potiez & Michaud, 1835), De- roceras laeve (Müller, 1774), Sarasinula marginata (Semper, 1885), Streptostele musaecola (Morelet, 1860) and Veronicella sloanii (Cuvier, 1817). The enigmatic Bulimulus stenogyroides Guppy, 1868 is now placed in the genus Naesiotus Albers, 1850. -

Brasil 2 Departamento de Invertebrados, Museu Nacional, Quinta da Boa Vista, São Cristovão, 20940-040, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil; [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract: Studies on terrestrial prosobranchs (streptoneureans) and shelled pulmonates (euthyneureans) show the significant diversity of the Brazilian malacofauna. These mollusks are still poorly known, despite the increas- ing interest in the group that started in the XVIII century when land mollusks began to be collected and deposit- ed in scientific collections. The species are arranged in alphabetical order; the taxonomic combination is updat- ed when possible with the original and other bibliographic references. This checklist includes original study of specimens deposited in Brazilian, American and European collections, as well as names and additional data of important early naturalists and current researchers of the group. Species are here associated to their original ref- erences; geographical distribution and other taxonomic references were added to each. A total of 590 species were found (27 families and 95 genera). The systematic arrangement of suprageneric and generic taxa was based on Taylor & Sohl (1962), Thiele (1929-1931), Wenz (1938-1944) and Zilch (1959-1960). Breure (1973-1985) was especially useful regarding Bulimuloidea because the characteristics of some subgenera justified a raise to generic level. -

A malacofauna terrestre, por sua vez, é de suma importância ambiental, econômica e de interesse médico, apesar destas importâncias atribuídas à esses invertebrados, o conhecimento sobre sua diversidade no Brasil ainda é pouco insipiente, especialmente no Estado da Paraíba, com 41 espécies registradas até o momento. -

Desta forma, apresentamos o levantamento dos gastrópodes do campus Urca da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), área limítrofe com o Parque Natural Municipal da Paisagem Carioca e inclusa na área de amortecimento do Monumento Natural dos Morros do Pão de Açúcar e da Urca. Foram selecionados 11 pontos de amostragem e utilizamos uma metodologia direta de coleta. Ao todo foi encontrado um total de 1829 exemplares distribuídos em 18 espécies dentro de 12 famílias. O presente estudo pode mostrar a importância de áreas urbanas protegidas na conservação da fauna, tendo em vista o quantitativo de espécies nativas encontradas e o registro de primeira ocorrência de uma das espécies para o estado do Rio de Janeiro.
