ZooKeys 216: 1–3. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.216.3646 Abstract The status of the genus Bostryx is discussed and, based on morphological and molecular data, restricted to a group of species related to B. solutus, for which the new subfamily name Bostrycinae is introduced. Keywords Orthalicoidea, taxonomy, Bostrycinae subfam. n. Introduction Troschel (1847: 49) described a new, peculiar land snail, as Bulimus (Bostryx) solu- tus. However, Troschel’s conviction that Bostryx constituted a separate genus was not readily accepted.

Abstract: In this study we present a database of spiders described and registered from the Neotropical region between 1757 and 2008. Results are focused on the diversity of the group in the State of São Paulo, compared to other Brazilian states. Data was compiled from over 25,000 records, published in scientific papers dealing with Neotropical fauna. These records enabled the evaluation of the current distribution of the species, the definition of collection gaps and priority biomes, and even future areas of endemism for Brazil. A total of 875 species, distributed in 50 families, have been described from the State of São Paulo.

This programme was created by WWF-Guianas in 2013 to contribute to sound land- use planning by filling biodiversity data gaps in critical areas in the Guianas. As far as possible, it also attempts to understand the local context of biodiversity use and the potential threats in order to recommend holistic conservation strategies. The programme brings together local knowledge experts and international scientists to assess priority areas. With each BAT Survey, species new to science or new country records are being discovered. This booklet acknowledges the findings of a BAT Survey carried out during October-November 2013 in the southern Rupununi savannah, at two locations: Kusad Mountain and Parabara.

ZooKeys 453: 1–17. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.453.8605 Abstract Two new species of the genus Zilchistrophia Weyrauch, 1960 are described from Eastern Ecuadorian rain forest: Zilchistrophia hilaryae sp. n. and Z. shiwiarorum sp. n. These two new species extend the distribu- tion of the genus considerably northwards, because congeners have been reported from Peru only. For the first time we present anatomical data (radula, buccal mass, morphology of the foot and the genital struc- ture) of Zilchistrophia species. According to these, the genus belongs to the family Scolodontidae, sub- family Scolodontinae (=“Systrophiini”). The previously assumed systematic relationship of Zilchistrophia with the Asian Corillidae and Plectopylidae based on the similarly looking palatal plicae is not supported. Tampa Bay Benthic Monitoring Program: Status of Middle Tampa Bay: 1993-1998 Stephen A. Grabe Environmental Supervisor David J. Karlen Environmental Scientist II Christina M. Holden Environmental Scientist I Barbara Goetting Environmental Specialist I Thomas Dix Environmental Scientist II MARCH 2003 1 Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County Richard Garrity, Ph.D. Executive Director Gerold Morrison, Ph.D. Director, Environmental Resources Management Division 2 INTRODUCTION The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County (EPCHC) has been collecting samples in Middle Tampa Bay 1993 as part of the bay-wide benthic monitoring program developed to (Tampa Bay National Estuary Program 1996). The original objectives of this program were to discern the ―health‖—or ―status‖-- of the bay’s sediments by developing a Benthic Index for Tampa Bay as well as evaluating sediment quality by means of Sediment Quality Assessment Guidelines (SQAGs). The Tampa Bay Estuary Program provided partial support for this monitoring. This report summarizes data collected during 1993-1998 from the Middle Tampa Bay segment of Tampa Bay. 3 METHODS Field Collection and Laboratory Procedures: A total of 127 stations (20 to 24 per year) were sampled during late summer/early fall ―Index Period‖ 1993-1998 (Appendix A). Sample locations were randomly selected from computer- generated coordinates. Benthic samples were collected using a Young grab sampler following the field protocols outlined in Courtney et al. (1993). Laboratory procedures followed the protocols set forth in Courtney et al. (1995). Data Analysis: Species richness, Shannon-Wiener diversity, and Evenness were calculated using PISCES Conservation Ltd.’s (2001) ―Species Diversity and Richness II‖ software.

C. P. 04510. Del. Coyoacán, Ciudad de México, México. E-mail: [email protected] 2Corresponding author Abstract Spider community inventories have relatively well-established standardized collecting protocols. Such protocols set rules for the orderly acquisition of samples to estimate community parameters and to establish comparisons between areas. These methods have been tested worldwide, providing useful data for inventory planning and optimal sampling allocation efforts. The taxonomic counterpart of biodiversity inventories has received considerably less attention. Species lists and their relative abundances are the only link between the community parameters resulting from a biotic inventory and the biology of the species that live there. However, this connection is lost or speculative at best for species only partially identified (e. g., to genus but not to species). This link is particularly important for diverse tropical regions were many taxa are undescribed or little known such as spiders. One approach to this problem has been the development of biodiversity inventory websites that document the morphology of the species with digital images organized as standard views.
