The following code has been developed in accordance with Policy No. 5132 and in consultation with staff members, parents, and students of this district.

A. General rules 1. Students are expected to be clean and well groomed in their appearance. 2. Student appearance should not disrupt school activities or the primary function of the school as an educational institution. 3. Dress or grooming that jeopardizes the health or safety of the student or of other students or is injurious to school property will not be tolerated. B. Prohibited and articles

The following garments and articles are prohibited in school and at school- sponsored events:

1. Extremely low-cut, tight fitting or transparent clothes, bare midriffs, and suggestive clothing; 2. , , , , and pants that end higher than two inches above the knee; 3. Pin curlers and other hair curling aids; 4. Outdoor , , or except when entering or leaving the building and when there is a defect in the heating system; 5. Bare feet, unsafe , cleated , and footwear intended for the beach; 6. Patches and decorations that are offensive or obscene; 7. (underwear) worn without an outer , or as outerwear; 8. There will be no exposed underwear. Clothing must cover underwear and skirts, dresses, skorts, shorts, and pants must be worn and fastened at the . 9. Students in grades 7-12 may not wear clothing required for physical education classes in other classrooms; 10. Clothing that is overly soiled, torn, worn, or defaced; 11. Nonprescription , glazed, and tinted , except as prescribed by the student's doctor; 12. Portable audio receivers, except when authorized by a physician or school administrator; and 13. Beepers and other summoning devices.

Students in grades K – 6 may wear the following during the school day, in lieu of their school uniforms, on days when their homeroom classes have physical education scheduled: a. or sweatshirts that are blue, red, white, or gray. The shirts or sweatshirts should be free of logos, insignias, slits, holes, tears, and cuts. b. Shorts or athletic pants that are blue, red, or gray. The shorts or athletic pants should be free of logos, insignias, slits, holes, tears, and cuts. c. Loose jewelry, dirty or torn clothing, and accessories are prohibited. d. Students must wear or rubber-soled athletic shoes; -on shoes, hard-soled shoes, and bare feet are prohibited in gym class. 2. Students in grades 7 and 8 must wear their approved school physical education , consisting of the following: a. School approved tee-shirts that are white with the school logo on the front. b. School approved athletic shorts that are navy blue. c. Loose jewelry, dirty or torn clothing, and accessories are prohibited. d. Students must wear sneakers or rubber-soled athletic shoes; slip-on shoes, hard-soled shoes, and bare feet are prohibited in gym class. 3. Students in grades 9 – 12 must wear their approved school physical education uniform, consisting of the following: a. School approved tee-shirts that are red with the school logo on the front. b. School approved athletic shorts that are navy blue. c. Loose jewelry, dirty or torn clothing, and accessories are prohibited. d. Students must wear sneakers or rubber-soled athletic shoes; slip-on shoes, hard-soled shoes, and bare feet are prohibited in gym class.

D. Enforcement

1. Teaching staff members will report violations of the policy and regulation to the building principal, who will interpret and apply the policy and regulation. 2. Students who publicly represent the school or a school organization at an activity away from this district are required to dress in full accordance with the reasonable expectations of the staff member in charge of the activity. Students unwilling to comply with this requirement will disqualify themselves from participation. 3. A student whose dress or grooming has been found by the principal or assistant principal to violate this policy or regulation may appeal the determination to the Superintendent or his/her designee, whose decision will be final.
