[email protected] Simple Summary: Autophagy is a self-eating mechanism that is involved in the degradation of organelles and cellular materials. It is initiated by intracellular and extracellular stress stimuli. In the context of tumor development, microenvironmental hypoxic stress regulates autophagy that, in turn, promotes cancer-cell death or cancer-cell survival. Autophagy functions and shares molecular players with other cell-death promoting pathways such as apoptosis.
