Peanuts are one of the main food allergens, occasionally responsible for life-threatening reac- tions. Thus, many studies have tried to fi nd a connection between peanut allergy prevalence and processes in the peanut chain that may contribute to the peanut allergenicity. To inform this discussion, this paper outlines experiences in peanut cultivation, trade and processing in Europe, focusing on four European countries with different peanut experiences (Poland, Bulgaria, Spain and the UK). Material and method. Results here are based on documentary analysis and semi-structured, face-to-face interviews with 32 experts involved in various stages of the peanut chain, including peanut farmers, proces- sors, traders, food technologists and manufacturers. Results. A common peanut chain diagram has been drawn considering shelled and in-shell peanuts. The analysis of each stage of peanut processing has been made in accordance with this peanut chain schema. -

Rheological characteristic, textural properties, mineral elements and amino acid composition of kefir made from peanut- milk (PMK), 7/3 peanut/skimmed-milk (70% PMK) have been investigated using whole-milk kefir (WMK) as a control. Results showed that, PMK sample had the highest (p < 0.05%) complex modulus (G*), firmness and the lowest (p < 0.05%) adhesiveness. However, both 70% PMK and WMK had high minerals and essential amino acids content. Saudi Arabia 3Department of Biochemistry, College of Sciences, University of Jeddah, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. 1 Abstract This study was aimed to investigate the functional properties of peanut seeds, and physicochemical, nutritional and sensory analysis of processed peanut milk. Standard methods were used in this research to determine the functional properties and proximate composition, while minerals were determined by a flame photometer and colorimeter. Firstly, the functional proprieties of the whole and defatted kernel of peanut seeds were studied,and the best results were found in the defatted sample. Peanut milk samples were divided into four samples depends on the percentage of powder milk addition (3, 6, 9,and 12%) as well as the control sample without addition. The pH, total soluble solids, viscosity, and density of samples were (6.2-6.5, 6- 16%, 3-8 mPa/s, and 1.01-1.05 g/cm3, respectively), increased with the increasing of milk powder. About the proximate analysis, the highest values of ash, protein, fat, total carbohydrates (0.8, 6.3, 6.3, and 7.5%, respectively) were found in the sample of 12% powder milk. Sodium, potassium, and calcium in the samples (3, 6, 9, and 12%) were found in the range 38-58, 55-89, and 10-18 mg/100 g, respectively. -

We evaluated the species concept for a common generalist moth occurring in New Guinea and Australia, Homona mermerodes, in light of host plant records and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I haplotype diversity. Genetic divergence among H. mermerodes moths feeding on different host tree species was much lower than among several Homona species. Genetic divergence between haplotypes from New Guinea and Australia was also less than interspecific divergence. Whereas molecular species identification methods may reveal cryptic species in some generalist herbivores, these same methods may confirm polyphagy when identical haplotypes are reared from multiple host plant families. A lectotype for the species is designated, and a summarized bibliography and illustrations including male genitalia are provided for the first time. -
