pirit Week is a time for students, teachers, and school staff to unite and show their UNHS pride. SUNHS pride was shown through fashion, from Dress Like a Teacher Day on Monday to Twin Day Friday. This year's themes included Dress like a Teacher Day, College Day, Meme Day, Throwback Thursday, and Twin Day. Dress like a Teacher Day had many of our teachers "chill out" and gear up in some old-fashioned rebel clothes such as hoodies and jeans, instead of their formal attire. Students also dressed in formal wear like their teachers and showed their love for the art of putting on a shirt and tie. The Extra Terrestrial, By JENNIFER LOPEZ he original SAT test day was postponed due to a snow day. You can imagine what my fellow junior classmates and I felt when we heard that SATs would be postponed to April 24th. We had Ta whole extra month to keep studying and preparing for what many would consider the biggest test of our high school career. The SATs are 3 hours long, with limited time spent at each section. You have two breaks in between in order to stretch and relax, which many said they needed and appreciated. Many students came out of their testing rooms feeling relieved to have finished, while others were left to feel regret about not having done better. Sophomores took the PSAT that same day. If you're feeling uneasy about your performance, I would suggest taking it again. You have the opportunity to take the SATs more than once, and if you talk to Mrs. Sanchez in room 202, you may able to take it for free again. Additional dates to retake the SATs this year include August 25th, October 6th, and November 3. These dates would work best for juniors right now because at the start of this new school year, they will be needing those test scores to submit to col- leges. If you have any more questions regarding the SATs, feel free to see Ms. Sanchez. May 2018 UNHS Press 5 Snapshots from Spirit Week

UNHS LGBTQ Pride Week took place May 29th - June 1st. The goal of Pride Week was to support and celebrate LGBTQ people and raise awareness for all. The Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA) club organized a week of activities and initiatives to not only educate their fellow students but to also create a greater sense of community. Throughout the week, business clothing was collected for the Ali Forney Center, a NYC’s LGBTQ teen shelter, so they can apply for jobs this summer As always, UNHS students, staff, and faculty put great care into giving back. SAGA also gave out over 1000 LGBTQ buttons and stickers to all students during the week. On LGBTQ Academic Day, teachers facilitated lessons, projects, and posters; while sharing incredible content on a wide range of LGBTQ topics related to their subjects. Finally there was an after school screening of “Love, Simon” which was the first LGBTQ teen romance film as a major motion picture. The week ended with Show Your Pride Day, where students and all of the staff wore UNHS Pride shirts. The unveiling of the Pride mural on the 2nd floor ended our Pride Week with a formal ribbon cutting by Ms. Collins and mural creator, Ely Segura. Ms. Collins ended the celebration by stating, “Everyone is invited in this community and no one should feel afraid to come out and embrace our family. I think it’s been an amazing year for us.
