Getting started: 1. Enable wifi on the Kindle 2. On a computer, go to the library’s at www.brentwoodtn.gov/library. Click on eLibrary, then click on eBooks. Click on Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. 3. In R.E.A.D.S., click on “Sign In” in the upper right corner. Enter “Brentwood Library” and enter your library card number in the appropriate field and sign in. 4. Recommended Step: Click on “My Account” in the top right, then click on Settings in the menu that pops up. Set your lending period preference for specific items (recommended: 21 days). On this setting page you can also turn off the default “automatic hold checkout”, turn on your history, set preferences for audiences, and Kindle Book options, and turn on display settings including high contrast and dyslexic font.

Finding & Checking out a book: • You may now search for a book in R.E.A.D.S. using the search feature or browse by genre. o Tip: Use the Advanced Search to view eBooks that are available in the Kindle Book format only. Click on the search icon, choose Advanced (top right, under the magnifying glass icon). Under “Formats”, choose Kindle Book and click the blue “Search” button at the bottom. *Most, but not all, in R.E.A.D.S can be read on Kindle. • Above the title cover image, it should say “Available” or “Waitlist.” If the title is currently checked out you can join the waitlist by clicking on “Place a Hold” below the cover image. • If the title is available, click “Borrow” below the title image. A pop-up will appear that confirms that you’re checking the item out, you can also change the length of check out by selecting 7 days, 14 days or 21 days (if you haven’t already updated your settings). Then click “Borrow” to confirm. o A pop-up will then show up with the option to “Read now with Kindle.” o If the pop-ups do not appear go to “My Account” (top right) and click on “Loans”. Your book will appear here on your Shelf with the option to “Read now with Kindle.” • You will now be directed to the Amazon website and one of the following will happen: o You will be prompted to sign into your Amazon.com account. Once you have logged in, you will see the button to “Get Library Book” on the right side of the screen and select your Kindle’s name from the “Deliver To:” dropdown menu. o On the Amazon website, you will see just the “Get Library Book” button and will then be prompted to sign in and can then deliver the eBook to your Kindle. • Congratulations! Your book has now been delivered wirelessly to your Kindle. (If you don’t see it, go to the Kindle menu and click Sync and Check for Items). When your checkout time has expired, the book will disappear from your Kindle. No late fees!
