The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place. -

07/05/2002 Sokongan keluarga jana sukan pemotoran negara Zairee Zahir KEJAYAAN Malaysia yang mula melahirkan beberapa pemandu muda dalam sukan bermotor di peringkat antarabangsa bukan satu kebetulan biarpun Litar F1 Sepang yang menjadi daya ilham Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, memulakan pembinaannya pada 1997. Sebaliknya, ia sudah dirancang lebih awal oleh ibu bapa masing-masing selepas melihat bakat anak mereka dan menyedari impak besar yang mampu diberikan sukan bertaraf dunia itu. Kerana minat mendalam dan impian melihat anak tempatan bersaing di pentas tertinggi, ada ibu bapa mengambil inisiatif awal untuk membimbing dan menyokong pembabitan anak-anak dengan harapan mereka mampu berdiri sama tinggi dengan pemandu Formula Satu handalan dunia. Masa, tenaga dan wang ringgit yang bukan sedikit dicurahkan untuk melihat anak mereka berjaya biarpun terpaksa bergolok gadai untuk mencari sumber kewangan sendiri bagi menampung perbelanjaan tinggi dalam sukan itu. Usaha keras kerajaan menerusi Kementerian Belia dan Sukan (KBS) juga membuka pintu kepada ramai pemandu muda negara mengembangkan bakat dalam pelbagai kejuaraan peringkat dunia. Nama Alex Yoong yang kini menjadi pemandu pasukan F1, KL Minardi Asiatech sebenarnya sudah disebut-sebut sejak 1991 ketika Malaysia belum bermimpi untuk menjadi kuasa sukan bermotor Asia. Bapanya, Hanifah Yoong Abdullah adalah individu yang sentiasa bertungkus lumus memastikan anaknya itu bersaing di peringkat tertinggi. Selepas mengukir nama dalam beberapa perlumbaan tempatan, Alex beralih ke Kejuaraan British yang menjadi sekolah ramai pemandu F1 ketika ini. Semasa berlumba di F3 British bersama pasukan Alan Docking, Alex juga bersaing dalam Kejuaraan F3000 Itali dan F3 Eropah, sebelum beralih ke Formula Nippon di Jepun selama dua musim sebelum mengukir sejarah menjadi pemandu pertama Malaysia dan bukan Jepun di Asia, menjadi pemandu F1. -

They were only ever on sale at the circuit, and were sold to raise funds for things going on in Silverstone Village. Being sold on the circuit gave them access to some very hard to find signatures, as you can see from this initial selection. With 24 entrants in the field it is more popular than ever and with a new push-to- pass system offers even more overtaking maneuvers than before. Among others, the driver line-up includes the Swiss Rahel Frey, the former Macau GP winner André Couto and young talents such as Aidan Wright from Australia and Matt Solomon from HongKong. The series features twelve rounds on six race weekends. The popular Cup again unites high-caliber protagonists this year, including the 2012 and 2013 overall winners Marchy Lee and Adderly Fong (both from HongKong), the Chinese motorsport talent ‘Franky’ Cheng Congfu and the former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong from Malaysia. The Swiss GT specialist Rahel Frey – last year’s race winner at Shanghai – will be hunting for points in Asia again as well. Together with André Couto, Aidan Wright and Matt Solomon they form the spearhead of a driver field with which the Audi R8 LMS Cup helps to further develop motorsport in the region. Another highlight is the push-to-pass function. By pushing a button, the drivers can briefly draw on a 50 hp power boost that may be tactically used in overtaking maneuvers. -
