VENDOR INTERVIEW

This attractive four-bedroom Victorian stone-built home, which is set in approximately 3 acres of gardens, occupies an elevated position surrounded by trees and open countryside at the end of a long private driveway near Dwyran. “We’ve been here for more than 17 years,” says Jane. “We were looking for somewhere that would give us easy access to work in Bangor and we were attracted by the beautiful, peaceful location of the house with its wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and distant mountains. It was just two miles from lovely beaches and offered us and our young family spacious accommodation and extensive lawns for kicking a football, badminton, and a woodland for finding a tree or two to climb. It also had a fantastic walled garden and a great patio area for entertaining in the summer.” “About four years ago, we undertook a major renovation on the ground floor,” recalls Jane. “We refurbished the kitchen entirely as well as both of the cloakrooms and the all-important utility room. The kitchen has been the heart of our home, having space for a sofa as well as a breakfast table, not to mention a fabulous island for preparing and cooking the great organic food available in this part of . We have had so many great family meals here and it especially nice to use our lovely separate dining room for these happy occasions. We relined the chimney and added a new fireplace with a wood-burning stove in the lounge, where a bay looks towards Snowdonia. The lounge and the kitchen open to the conservatory, which leads out onto a large decked area and the lawns beyond. The only original fireplace is in the study but we rediscovered and exposed the beautiful Victorian mosaic floor in the hallway, which had lain hidden under carpet for years. On the first floor, we refurbished the master bedroom’s en-suite bath, shower and dressing room – the master bedroom also has a bay with views over Snowdonia.” “The walled garden is just under an acre in size and has stone walls 15 feet high, so inside it’s a few degrees warmer than outside,” explains Jane. “When we came, it was sectioned into quarters by rough paths with some espaliered fruit trees. We reinstated the paths and created a kitchen garden with organically grown soft fruit and vegetables as put in two ponds and areas of perennials, shrubs and trees. It’s an incredibly peaceful spot, which attracts much birdlife, including owls.” “Anglesey is a safe quiet place to live and the here has been so very welcoming,” adds Jane. “The bus to the excellent local high school picked our children up from the bottom of the drive; and getting them to music and sports lessons was quick and easy. Local amenities include Hooton’s Homegrown, a popular organic farm shop; a Waitrose in Menai Bridge; and a Tesco in Bangor. It’s a 15-minute drive to and about an hour to Chester, while Bangor station has a direct line to Euston in about 3.5 hours, so communications are good.” “Tre Anna has been a fabulous family home,” concludes Jane. “We will especially miss its garden, the space and the privacy, the views and the sunsets.” - Jane
