From the President of Sussex RFU: Dewi Vaughan (Chair SSRFU) Time has flown and my first year is complete! The WRC is behind us and although it was a Tournament for the England team to forget, it left us all with great memories of the weekend when the World Cup came to Brighton. The never to be forgotten Japan v South Africa was one of the greatest games in World Cup History! Thanks to all the volunteers who did such sterling work over the weekend at the Stadium and Fanzone. Since the Tournament the National team have gone from strength to strength under the leadership of Eddie Jones and Captain Dylan Hartley. Dylan went to school in Sussex (Crowborough Beacon) as did Tom Mitchell (Worth Abbey) the Captain of the GB Men's 7's Squad. We do manage to produce some brilliant Rugby leaders. The women's 7's team also have a representative, Amy Wilson- Hardy. They are all great role models in promoting the game in the county. The conveyer belt of producing age group internationals continues, with Luke James (Cavendish School/ Eastbourne RFC) and Jon Searle (Brighton College/ Brighton RFC) representing England at under 16. Marcus Smith (Brighton College/ Brighton RFC) has moved up to the 17 age group. James Hatfield (Hurstpierpoint College) and Ollie Davis-Smith (Worthing College/ Brighton RFC) was selected for the England county's 18 age group. On the ladies’ side, Jessica Breach (Pulborough) played for the England under 20s and Louisa Ward (Pulborough) has been selected for the England women's under 18 talent development group. My congratulations to the club sides that achieved promotion this season, with Heathfield going into L.S.E.2. Lewes and Haywards Heath are back in the London leagues, as are Bognor. I have received some outstanding hospitality this season from many clubs, and it was particularly exciting to be present at Bognor's 50th anniversary celebrations at the start and end of the season. I also had a great night at Littlehampton's 30th anniversary celebration dinner. All together I managed to see 23 different clubs in action during the season, and I hope to see all by the end of my tenure. We had junior success nationally with Worthing under 17’s winning the national cup, and Pulborough girls the under 18’s national trophy. Brighton College under 16’s won the prestigious under 16s Rosslyn Park 7s. This coming season the major challenge is the reintroduction of the Senior County Side. The under 20’s have done really well in the last two seasons and it is exciting that there is another level for our top players to aim for. I'm positive the player pathway route from under 13-senior squad overseen by Steve Briscoe and Simon Stodart will be a great success. We have the players and coaches in the county to make an impact, especially with the support of all of the clubs. I wish all the clubs all the best for the next season. Enjoy 2016-2017. Dewi Vaughan

Roger Edmondson is the Discipline Secretary for Seniors, Youth and Schools.

When a player is sent off, the School or Club must notify Roger Edmondson within 48 hours of the player being sent off with the name of the player, Date of Birth and RFU Registration Number (if applicable).

Any player who is red Carded, is now deemed to be guilty until proven innocent and cannot play until a Hearing has been heard (Schools – Head Teacher).

The referee must complete the RFU Discipline Form and send it to Roger Edmondson and Iain Mitchell.

For Schools only, RCE will send the Form directly to the Head Teacher and Master i/c Rugby. The Head Teacher has the sole responsibility of interviewing the player, assessing whether the player is guilty or not guilty and if guilty, decide whether the offence is Lower End, Mid Range or Top End and decide on the appropriate sanction.

For Youth Players, the same applies as for Schools except that the Club Youth Disciplinary Panel (3 persons) takes the place of the Head Teacher.

Senior Players will be asked to attend a Sussex Disciplinary Panel at Lewes RFC on Thursdays fortnightly.

If a player is red carded whilst playing for a Club, any sanction he or she received must also apply to participation in school matches, and vica versa.

If you are hosting a Team from Abroad, carry out the same procedure as for Outgoing Tours but you will not require Insurance and you need to complete an Incoming Tour Form (RFU website – Managing Rugby Tours).
