Dogs: Ms Jenny Dove (Saringa)

Jenny Dove has lived and worked with dogs all her life, growing up as a child with Afghan Hounds, Whippets and Poodles in the family Boarding & Grooming business. She gained fame initially as a child handler and in 1968 founded the very successful 'Saringa' Afghan kennel, breeding 3 Champions in her first litter. In addition to the Afghans, Jenny has been successfully breeding and showing Champion Irish Wolfhounds and Borzoi; in 1998 winning the 'Contest of Champions' with the Group winning Crufts Champion Irish Wolfhound 'Ch Saringa's Mr Micawber'. Jenny has judged Hounds extensively at Championship Shows since 1976, including Crufts twice, and will also be judging Borzoi next year at the UK's most prestigious show. Jenny has judged in Australia, South Africa, USA, Canada, Scandinavia and most European countries, including the World Show in Verona in the early 80s. Jenny awards CCs in twelve Hound breeds and has judged the Hound Group several times.

Bitches: Mrs Angela Randall (Hammonds)

I am the 4th generation of my family to breed and show dogs registered as Hammonds, now in its 114th year. I went to my first dog show when I was 3 weeks old, I don't recall what I handled! I owned my first Whippet in 1973. My interest in showing Whippets was due to the Sedgeleys (Dennydene) who bred our foundation bitch. She produced Ch Hammonds Sebastian in 1981, whose half brother Ch Norwill Barley at Hammonds, we acquired at 5 months. He won his 9th CC at 9 years old and is behind many of todays winning lines. To date, I have owned, or bred, 8 Whippet Champions. Ch Spinneyhill Cinnamon at Hammonds was sent to Australia, co-owned by me, and achieved her Australian title. In 1995 I started with Deerhounds, achieving 3 Champions including Ch Celtic, Best Deerhound in the UK 2003 & 2004, with 25 CCs. I also handled Ch Grace, who won UK, German, Swedish, Danish, Belgian and International titles, all from the UK. winning Best in show and Groups at International shows. I have been fortunate to judge in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland and Ireland. I greatly look forward to judging this show. • CLASSIFICATION • Judges: Dogs: Ms Jenny Dove (Saringa) Bitches: Mrs Angela Randall (Hammonds) Referee: Mrs Cathy Brown (Bluestreak) Kennel Club Challenge Certificate - Dog Kennel Club Challenge Certificate - Bitch

The South West Whippet Club has decided to schedule two Specal Award Classes at the Championship Show to encourage B/C list judges and allow them to gain more 'hands on' experience.

PLEASE NOTE: â Only dogs entered in the main show are eligible for these classes. â Any dog/bitch can only be entered in either Class A or B, not both. â The entry fee for the Special Award Classes is £2.00 per dog per class (Members/Non-Members). â There will be no Best Special Award. â Entires will be restricted to 15 dogs per class on a 'first come, first served' basis.

The South West Whippet Club hopes that you will support this initiative and give the invited judge a good entry to go over.

• SPECIAL AWARD JUDGE •

Miss Lesley Smeath (Willingwisp) Having been brought up with racing Greyhounds, I had my first Whippet in 1969, bought for me by my sister. I only started showing in the 1990s and was given a white and fawn dog, Lingardswood Apple Frost, who won at some Open Shows and from there I got the showing bug. Since 1997 I have had my affix, Willingwisp, and in 1999 I bought two bitches from Bob andMary Belshaw (Permadon), who were to become my foundation bitches for the Willingwisp Whippets today. With the kindness of Dennis Meakin (Oakbark) allowing me to use Ch Oakbark Millenium Gold, I was then able to have the opportunity of mating a bitch to Ch Adagio Love Supreme. It was their daughter, when mated to the lovely Toby, Oakbark Moment of Impact at Willingwisp, who produced some beautiful puppies, Willingwisp Star Legend (Biscuit) and Ch Willingwisp Star Trooper (Peanut) who won BOB at Crufts 2012. I was very lucky to have the opportunity of buying Toby from Dennis Meakin and although he was very lightly shown, he produced some beautiful puppies, four of which were Champions and between them amassed 28 CCs and 47 RCCs and many more with their SBNs I currently have a small team that I am showing with some promising youngsters who are coming along very nicely for the future. • RULES and REGULATIONS • 1. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. 17. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise.
