Summarization Extension Activity

After students use the elements of the plot to generate a basic summary, they can use it to develop a similar version without using the clue words: someone, wanted, but, so, then. Give students an opportunity to rewrite their summary without using the summary clue words.

This is a retelling of Cinderella. Rhodopis, a Greek slave, is picked on by the other Egyptian servants. One day the pharaoh holds court for his subjects and Rhodopis is left behind by the other jealous servants. A falcon steals one of her slippers and brings it to the pharaoh. He searches and finds Rhodopis as the owner of the slipper. He marries her and proclaims her the most Egyptian of all.

A Rhodopis, a slave, is left behind to do the washing and chores while the other servant girls visit the pharaoh. She is surprised when the god Horus in the form of a falcon flies away with her slipper. The falcon gives it to the pharaoh.
