2021-22 Religious & Cultural Holidays at RSSAA

Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor is a diverse community reflecting many traditions and perspectives. If each of us is sensitive to both the direct and subtle ways we demonstrate respect and appreciation for these differences, we will each be a positive force in providing a multi-cultural education for our students. We are committed to honoring the rich cultural diversity within our community.

HOLIDAYS GUIDELINES Classification of the significance of a 's observance is based on recommendations from representatives of the group who celebrate it. A balance between any formal religious standard and the actual contemporary observance of the holiday has been the intended aim of these recommendations.

Holiday observances of major significance to a group are indicated on the online All-School Calendar by “Event-Free Day”. The following rules apply:

RSSAA may not schedule any of the following during “Event-Free” holidays. 1. Major exams 2. Reviews for major exams 3. Tryouts; for example, teams, plays 4. One-time or major events (, class photos, dances, etc.) 5. Class/Parent meetings

Students will likely be with their families or at a place of worship in observance of these holidays. They might not be in school and/or have time available to do the required homework. Absence to observe these holidays should be excused, and make-up privileges should be the same as the make-up privileges offered to a student who has an excused absence due to illness.

Exceptions: The two exceptions to this policy are during the first and last weeks of school. Since we are unable to move school start and end dates or the events that are specific to them, such as graduation, those events may be scheduled on an “Event-Free” holiday.
