Entrance Hymn We sing of God, the mighty source HYMNAL, 387 All stand and sing the hymn together.

Opening Sentences , page 61

Confession of Sin BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER, page 62

The and Psalter All stand Officiant O Lord, open thou our lips. Choir And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise. Officiant O God, make speed to save us. Choir O Lord, make haste to help us. Officiant Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; Choir as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Praise ye the Lord.

Phos hilaron O brightness of th’immortal Father’s face Psalm 99 Dominus regnavit CHANT: Gerre Hancock The Psalm is sung by the Choir, the Congregation seated.

The Lord is King, be the people never so unpatient: he sitteth between the cherubims, be the earth never so unquiet. The Lord is great in Sion: and high above all people. They shall give thanks unto thy Name: which is great, wonderful, and holy. The King’s power loveth judgement; thou hast prepared equity: thou hast executed judgement and righteousness in Jacob. O magnify the Lord our God: and fall down before his footstool, for he is holy. Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among such as call upon his Name: these called upon the Lord, and he heard them. He spake unto them out of the cloudy pillar : for they kept his testimonies, and the law that he gave them. Thou heardest them, O Lord our God : thou forgavest them, O God, and punishedst their own inventions. O magnify the Lord our God, and worship him upon his holy hill : for the Lord our God is holy.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lessons All sit for the Readings and stand for the which follows each reading.

The First Lesson Exodus 34:29-35

The (Chichester Service) Sung by the Choir My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me, and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost: as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. —Luke 1:46-55, with Gloria Patri

The Second Lesson Luke 9:28-36

The Nunc Dimittis (Chichester Service) Sung by the Choir Walton Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people, to be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost: as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. —Luke 2:29-32, with Gloria Patri

The Apostles’ Creed (monotone: all together) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Responses All remain standing Leighton Officiant The Lord be with you. Choir And with thy spirit. Officiant Let us pray. Choir Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us. Choir Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Officiant O Lord, show thy mercy upon us. Choir And grant us thy salvation. Officiant O Lord, save the State. Choir And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee. Officiant Endue thy Ministers with righteousness. Choir And make thy chosen people joyful. Officiant O Lord, save thy people. Choir And bless thine inheritance. Officiant Give peace in our time, O Lord. Choir Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God. Officiant O God, make clean our hearts within us. Choir And take not thy Holy Spirit from us. The Collects Of the Day BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER, page 165 For Sundays page 69 For Mission page 71 The Let all the World in Every Corner Sing Leighton An offering will be received during the Anthem. Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King. The heavens are not too high, his praise may thither fly: The earth is not too low, his praises there may grow. Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King. The Church with must shout, no door can keep them out: But above all the heart must bear the longest part. Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King. —George Herbert

Hymn Christ upon the mountain peak HYMNAL, 129 All stand and sing together. Prayers, Intercessions, and Thanksgivings The General Thanksgiving (All together) Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

The Prayer of St. Chrysostom (All say Amen.) The Blessing & Dismissal

Movie Night: Thursday, March 7 – La Passion De Jeanne D’Arc According to French playwright Antonin Artaud (who also is in the film), this film “reveals Jeanne as the victim of one of the most terrible of all perversions: the play of a divine principle in its passage through the minds of men whether they be Church, Government or what you will.” Danish Director Carl Theodor Dreyer based the script on the trial records. Cocteau wrote, this film “seems like an historical document from an era in which the cinema didn’t exist.” Supper in the Refectory 6–6:50 p.m. Bring a salad for two and a friend. Film begins promptly in the Parish Hall 7 p.m. with a discussion led by Clint Van Dusen to follow. Please make reservations by Sunday, March 3. Call Clint Van Dusen at 412.660.2297 or email [email protected]. Coming April 4: “A Man For All Seasons” (British, 1966). Splendid film about Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield) and his conflict with Henry VIII who systematically wants to behead or divorce his six wives in a futile search for a male child. Excellent and spellbinding courtroom scene. The Prayers of the People

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Reading from the Book of Exodus [34:29-35] Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterward all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him. Reader: The Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God. Psalm 99 1 The Lord is King; let the people tremble; * he is enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth shake. 2 The Lord is great in Zion; * he is high above all peoples. 3 Let them confess his Name, which is great and awesome; * he is the Holy One. 4 “O mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; * you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.” 5 Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and fall down before his footstool; * he is the Holy One. 6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, * they called upon the Lord, and he answered them. 7 He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; * they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them. 8 “O Lord our God, you answered them indeed; * you were a God who forgave them, yet punished them for their evil deeds.” 9 Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and worship him upon his holy hill; * for the Lord our God is the Holy One. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. A Reading from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians [3:12–4:2] Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness, not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that was being set aside. But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside. Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds; but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. Therefore, since it is by God’s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God’s word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. Reader: The Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to Luke [9:28-36, (37-43)] Response before the Gospel: Glory to you, Lord Christ. About eight days after Peter had acknowledged Jesus as the Christ of God, Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” – not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen. [On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him. Just then a man from the crowd shouted, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son; he is my only child. Suddenly a spirit seizes him, and all at once he shrieks. It convulses him until he foams at the mouth; it mauls him and will scarcely leave him. I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.” Jesus answered, “You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.” While he was coming, the demon dashed him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. And all were astounded at the greatness of God.] Response after the Gospel: Praise to you, Lord Christ. RCL-C-EpiphanyLast-030319
