Japan Matsuri è il festival giapponese della Svizzera italiana. Con il termine “Matsuri” (祭り, o solo 祭), in Giappone ci si riferisce ad un festival che si svolge in punti di ritrovo quali un tempio shintoista o buddista, un’area particolarmente conosciuta della città o semplicemente una scuola. La scelta del nome per il festival richiama quindi il significato del termine giapponese. Ecco perché si è deciso di creare un’esposizione riguardante il Giappone, in previsione di questo bellissimo festival pieno di colori e usanze orientali. La corrente bibliografia è strutturata in modo preciso e seguendo un determinato criterio. Nella prima metà della bibliografia si trovano informazioni relative alla storia, alla società e cultura. Questo per poter comprendere meglio la vita in Giappone e le loro usanze. Nella seconda metà ci si può godere l’arte e la fotografia giapponese, molto colorata e piena di natura. Infine, si raggruppano indicazioni sui viaggi seguite da una selezione di opere di narrativa giapponese. La bibliografia non ha pretesa di essere esaustiva, ma si è cercato di fornire punti di riflessione basandosi sulle opere presenti nella nostra sede. Le indicazioni bibliografiche sono ordinate all’interno dei singoli capitoli in ordine alfabetico per autore e cronologico. Segnatura: BZA 23776 La storia del Giappone moderno e contemporaneo costituisce un caso unico della particolare evoluzione di un paese asiatico a contatto con le influenze occidentali. Il libro del professor Beasley, uno storico inglese che in Giappone ha vissuto molti anni, ne fornisce un'interpretazione particolarmente felice per rigore d'informazione storica e facilità dell'esposizione. La sintesi si apre con l'analisi politica e sociale delle caratteristiche specifiche del feudalesimo giapponese, per seguire le riforme del periodo Meiji, e le profonde trasformazioni di quel periodo cruciale di fine Ottocento che vede il paese gettare le basi di un impero e divenire una potenza mondiale. La trattazione del periodo più recente risulta così illuminata con efficacia, e al di fuori di miti politici piuttosto diffusi: Pearl Harbour e la seconda guerra mondiale non furono uno smarrimento demoniaco della ragione, ma l'ultimo anello di una catena non fatale, conseguenza prevedibile dei modi con cui il Giappone è giunto al mondo moderno. Efficace strumento per la comprensione dei problemi che scuotono il Giappone d'oggi, il libro - che ora esce in una nuova edizione riveduta e aggiornata a questi ultimi anni - suggerisce anche interessanti considerazioni comparative sulla «modernizzazione» di società evolutasi fuori del nostro processo storico. Segnatura: BCB 952 REVE La parabola compiuta dal Giappone imperiale tra Otto e Novecento, dalla costruzione dello stato-nazione unitario fino alla disfatta bellica, è densa di spunti per una riflessione sul significato della modernità e del suo manifestarsi nel mondo in forme diverse secondo le condizioni locali. Il volume mira a collocare saldamente lo specifico caso giapponese nel suo contesto regionale e globale, offrendo al tempo stesso una prospettiva extraeuropea su fenomeni transnazionali di ampio respiro. Le vicende trattate sono di particolare interesse per l'osservatore italiano, data l'abbondanza di spunti per un confronto fra le storie parallele dei due paesi. Si pensi, in ambito politico, a questioni quali l'unificazione nazionale, l'evoluzione in senso parlamentare del sistema di governo sotto la monarchia, la ricerca di un riconoscimento paritario da parte delle grandi potenze, la crisi del liberalismo e l'avvento di un regime autoritario che condusse il paese al disastro nella Seconda guerra mondiale. Collegati a questi temi, sul piano dei rapporti socio-economici si possono tracciare invece il processo di industrializzazione, i conseguenti squilibri territoriali, l'emergere dei movimenti di massa e di una cultura popolare sorretta dai mezzi di comunicazione moderni. Segnatura: BZA 54629 Pendant trente ans, cette Histoire forma le bagage de base, la référence initiale de tout étudiant " japonologue", à l'époque où ceux-ci étaient encore relativement peu nombreux, ce qui explique sans doute au passage l'écho plutôt faible - selon nos habitudes d'aujourd'hui - donné par les revues historiques savantes à cet ouvrage qui reste, contre vents et marées, un monument. Monument par son volume - près de mille pages imprimées en petits caractères dans la présente édition-, mais aussi par la période embrassée, des origines du Japon à 1868, et par la masse des sources japonaises puisées aux meilleures éditions de documents disponibles à l'époque : en somme, une œuvre à mi-chemin entre Michelet et Lavisse, et dont l'auteur a pratiqué suffisamment le métier de diplomate pour bien connaître le poids - relatif peut-être, mais contraignant - des institutions et des hommes. A Few reflections on the reception of Kawakami Hiromi’s works in Poland Beata Kubiak Ho-Chi Introduction On the 23rd of October 2019 between 2:00 and 3:00 PM, in the monumental hall of the former Warsaw University Library, Kawakami Hiromi, a Japanese writer already known in Poland for several of her works, signed the Polish translation of her two short stories contained in the miniature collection entitled Kamisama 2011 (pol. Niedźwiedzi Bóg, eng. God bless you 2011.)1 She was expected by several dozen people, who were predominantly young people in their 20s-30s. The translation of the collection, prepared on the occasion of this special guest’s arrival at the Chair of Japanese Studies at the University of Warsaw, had arrived from the printing house to the Tajfuny publishing house just a few hours earlier. A considerable logistic balancing exercise was required by the publishing house in order to provide almost warm books on time and, most importantly, to organize sales for Kawakami’s fans awaiting her arrival. Admittedly, the publishing house announced some time earlier the advance sale of God bless you still in print at that time, but not all readers awaiting the authoress’s autograph had the opportunity to buy the book. This establishes the handscroll as the most valuable work sold at Five Drunken Princes Returning on Horseback by Ren Renfa (1255-1327), Yuan dynasty, ink and colour on paper, handscroll, 35.2 x 210.7 cm, auction in Asia in 2020, and the most valuable sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on 8 October, making it the most valuable work of art currently sold at auction in Asia in 2020 Chinese ink painting sold by Sotheby’s Hong Kong.     Japan Now Saturday 25 February 2017 British Library Knowledge Centre Theatre Programme 11.00 Introduction Martin Colthorpe Director of Modern Culture, will provide an overview of the day. 11.05 – 12.15 Session One: Japan: Outside Influences Chair:( Christopher Harding) Yoko Tawada and Momoko Ando Japan is often seen as an insular country, with little inward migration, and this session features artists from a range of genres whose work takes its cue from ‘internationalism’ and outside influence. Yoko Tawada is one of Japan’s best known novelists in the West, and has lived most of her adult life in Berlin. Memoirs Of A Polar Bear, is her newly published novel. Momoko Ando is a filmmaker whose work includes Kakera: A Piece Of Our Life and 0.5mm. She is currently based in Tokyo. 12.30 – 13.30 Session Two: Japan´ in Fiction (i) (Chair:´ Suzi Feay ) Hiromi Kawakami ´and Tomoka Shibasaki Hiromi Kawakami´ and Tomoka Shibasaki exemplify the off-kilter style and atmosphere in Japanese fiction today, launching newly translated novellas at this session. Kawakwami is renowned for Strange Weather in Tokyo. Her latest work in English Record Of A Night Too Brief (translator Lucy North), for which she won the Akutagawa Prize, is an alluring mix of imagery and surreal happenings, and full of emotional resonance. Tomoka Shibasaki’s Spring Garden heralds a major new talent, with its luminous sense of time and place. It brilliantly compresses characters’ lives into a series of photographic snapshots.
