Gender Performativity in Japan
IJMSS Vol.04 Issue-09, (September, 2016) ISSN: 2321-1784 International Journal in Management and Social Science (Impact Factor- 5.276) Gender Performativity in Japan Lin Fan I-Shou University No. 1, Section 1, Xuecheng Rd., Dashu District Kaohsiung City, TAIWAN Abstract This paper explores gender issues Japanese daily life or traditional and contemporary shows. Specifically, it looks at gender politics in a number of performing arts, highlighting ways in which humor constructs the feminine. Like eroticism, humor builds on a fascination with the real ambiguity of gender; and reciprocally gender is sensually and humorously fashioned. Humorous performances arise from the aesthetic disturbance or subversion of historically specific gender prescriptions, just as the child develops role-playing strategies to understand what makes a male and a female body, game or activity before assimilating the gender divisions that prevail in her world. Gender is understood in this paper as a sort of unfinished picture that people have fun crafting. Keywords: humor; gender; performance; Japan. During the first three decades of the twentieth century, Japanese society underwent significant changes in a short amount of time. After the intense modernizations of the late nineteenth century, the start of the twentieth century witnessed an increase in overseas militarism, turbulent domestic politics, an evolving middle class, and the expansion of roles for women to play outside the home. As such, the early decades of the twentieth century in Japan were a crucial period for the formation of modern ideas about femininity and womanhood. Before, during, and after the rule of her husband Emperor Taishō (1879-1926; r. 1912-1926), Empress Teimei held a highly public role, and was frequently seen in a variety of visual media. -

Issue Brief April 13, 2021 Japan-UK: “Progressive” Ties and a Case for Britain in the CPTPP Jagannath Panda The UK’s entry into the landmark CPTPP agreement, led by Japan, could be a breakthrough in advancing Britain’s global ambitions as an independent trading nation and encourage a stronger cross- continental collaboration. It would not only act as a gateway for the UK to become an active player in the Indo-Pacific, but also substantiate the global overture of Japan-UK ties and strengthen their collaboration in the face of shared challenges. It can, in other words, help transform an already strong Japan-UK relationship into a global partnership. Introduction ambition to join the CPTPP, for which London has already formally applied5 and entry negotiations are Between dealing with challenges arising from the shortly expected6, shaping London’s relations with Covid-19 pandemic and international geo-political Japan and a range of countries in the region. Throughout the Edo period (1603-1868), works of fiction were liberally illustrated with woodblock printed images, which, especially towards the mid-19th century, had become an essential component of most popular literature in Japan. With the opening of Japan’s borders in the Meiji period (1868-1912), writers who had grown up reading illustrated fiction were exposed to foreign works of literature that largely eschewed the use of illustration as a medium for storytelling, in turn leading them to reevaluate the role of image in their own literary tradition. As authors endeavored to produce a purely text-based form of fiction, modeled in part on the European novel, they began to reject the inclusion of images in their own work. -

In this book, we focus on co-creative action research that we create together, among the many kinds of action research methods. is is because the realization of a sustainable society, through SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), is based on empowerment that draws out the power of the involved and produces the greatest energy for change. Empowerment is to give people dreams and hopes, encourage them, and bring out the wonderful power of life that they originally have. Everyone is born with great power. And you can continue to exert great power throughout your life. Empowerment is to bring out that wonderful power. Just as gushing out from the spring, it is critical to bring out the vitality and potential of each person. In practices such as health, medical care, welfare, education, psychology, administration, management, and community development, the wonderful potential that each person originally has is brought up and manifested, and through activities, can create positive change for the development of people's lives and society.
