Rittenhouse sguare, one of the original 5 sguares of Thomas Hormes' 1693 pran for philadelphia, 6ccupies an entire block within the district. As an elelant randscaped park it forrned the desirabre core around which rnuch of the high styre architecture of the district was built. The Square has a system of walks running from each corner or tne park toiard the center as well as a circurar wari< ringing the center.
