The aim of this study was to analyze and evaluate the differences and similarities in the spatial structure of Cittaslow towns in the Italian regions of Tuscany and Umbria and the Polish region of Warmia and Mazury. The study examined historical towns which are situated in different parts of Europe and have evolved in different cultural and natural environments. The presented research attempts to determine whether the spatial structure of historical towns established in different European regions promotes the dissemination of the Cittaslow philosophy and the adoption of sustainable development principles. CORPORATE POWERS Section 1. The municipal corporation now existing and known as the Village of Rockford, shall continue to be a body politic and corporate under the name City of Rockford, and include all territory described as follows: The whole of section thirty-six (36) in township nine (9) north of range eleven (11) west, and the fractional north half of the north half of section one (1) in township eight (8) north of range eleven (11) west, as originally incorporated as the Village of Rockford by Act No. 537 of the Local Acts of 1887, in Kent County, Michigan.     NMAJH and Partners Internship Program The National Museum of American Jewish History is a leading cultural institution with a vibrant internship program for undergraduate, graduate, and recently graduated students who want to learn about public history, the museum profession, non-profit organizations, and the American Jewish experience. Interns work in specific departments and participate in periodic group experiences, including a two hour weekly Summer Seminar. Interns will be placed according to their interests, experience, and the needs of the Museum. We will also be pleased to discuss a placement to support a specific project of interest to students. Potential placements include: Academic Liaison, CEO / Director’s Office, Curatorial, Development, Education, Facilities Rental & Events Planning, Group Services, Marketing & Communications, Public Programs, and Retail/Operations. For Summer internships, a weekly hourly commitment of 35-40 hours is required. For Fall and Spring internships, a minimum weekly commitment of 8 hours is required. In addition, we collaborate with other Philadelphia cultural institutions for internship opportunities, including the Gershman Y and its Jewish Film Festival, the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies and the Philadelphia History Museum. Interns at these institutions are included in our extended internship community. Requests for internships at these institutions are coordinated through the NMAJH internship program and application process. We offer a limited number of paid internships to students with demonstrated financial need. These opportunities are made possible through a generous challenge grant from an anonymous national foundation, with the support of the Connelly Foundation, the Hassel Foundation and a local anonymous donor helping the Museum to meet that challenge.

The Mobocratic City: Race, Space and Citizenship in Nineteenth Century Philadelphia Abstract This dissertation focuses on publics and the public sphere to argue that communication theory should investigate connections across discourse, space, and practice in the creation and maintenance of publics. I chose antebellum Philadelphia as my test case for two reasons. First, theorists such as Jurgen Habermas have identified the antebellum period as the time when the public sphere ceased to be maintained through face-to-face relations and became connected by means of the news media. Second, tremendous social and political conflict also characterized this period when categories considered by communications theory to be discursively constructed, such as "race" and "nation," were contested and revised. The majority of archival evidence tells a different story, one in which spatial relations and material conditions defined the public, and the act of being in public was a contested mode of political communication. Antebellum Philadelphians attempted to define, shape, and communicate public opinion through the development of the material city and the spatial practices of its inhabitants.

    AMBIVALENCES AND ASYMMETRIES IN THE URBANIZATION PROCESS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO: ENVIRONMENTAL PRESSURES AND POPULATION CONCENTRATION Cuauhtémoc León and Hipólito Rodríguez FRAMEWORK: A DEFINITION OF THIS SPACE Three different countries surround this great marine water body; human activities both inland and in coastal zones and marine areas have modified, and will continue to modify this space’s biochemical, ecosystemic and, of course, socio-economic conditions. Such activities can be formally identified as the Gulf of Mexico’s economic and social space. From a historical perspective, they have had certain common traits and have perhaps been evolving at different intensities, but at least in a parallel fashion. The pace of changes has left marks shaping the landscape that can be “read,” yet unfortunately, in most instances these comprise an expansion and sequence of deleterious transformations. The boundaries of the Gulf of Mexico and, therefore, of what is considered to be its coastal zone, were defined a priori. Actually, they are of an operational nature so as to be able to deal simultaneously with three dimensions: the terrestrial landscape analyzed as ecoregions; socio-demographic dynamics studied on the basis of municipalities (or counties); and urban cores or cities, which enable us to easily visualize population concentration. Thus, the coastal zone was delimited as a mostly terrestrial strip having municipal boundaries (and therefore jurisdictional ones) and landscape features. As a result, this is not necessarily a region in the economic or geographic sense but rather, most likely, it is composed of asymmetrical, disconnected, and perhaps complementary territorial and political units which at most depend upon one another to a certain degree.
