The information listed was provided by each school, and their inclusion in this directory should not be considered an endorsement by Autism New Jersey. We do not claim to have personal knowledge of any of the schools, and we do not evaluate an individual school’s interpretation or implementation of its educational methodologies. We urge you to make independent judgment when selecting a school program. Please remember that any program chosen for a child with an autism spectrum disorder should be based on the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Parents and child study team members should work together to develop the child’s IEP and then select the most appropriate program based on the completed IEP. How to Use this Directory Schools are listed by county, and grouped by type: public and private. Each listing includes the length of the school year and ages served (ESY = Extended School Year). We use these public school rankings to generate Top 10 Lists, which show the top-performing schools in five different areas: • Student performance • Low-income student performance • Black student performance • Latino student performance • Performance gains* Each subgroup’s performance score is an average of their reading and math proficiency at the highest tested grade level in that school. In order for a school to be on the Top 10 list for a major subgroup (low- income, black or Latino), the student body it serves must reflect the statewide student demographics for that subgroup. For example, Latinos represent 23 percent of New Jersey's population. For a school to be on the Top 10 list for Latino student performance, therefore, at least 23 percent of its students must be Latino. The statewide student demographics for all subgroups are as follows: 35% = Low-Income 16% = Black 23% = Latino * There are no performance gains at the high school level because reading and math are only tested once) NEW JERSEY TOP TEN SCHOOLS, 2013 JERSEYCAN 3 Top 10 Elementary Schools TOP 10 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS Traditional public school Performance gains Charter school RANK NAME % POINT CHANGE IN PROFICIENCY Bayonne Board of Education 1 Nicholas Oresko School 20.2 Ewing Township Public Schools 2 Antheil Elementary School 19.0 Passaic City Public Schools 3 Theodore Roosevelt School No.

NEW JERSEY EDUCATION POLICY FORUM On the Relative Efficiency of New Jersey Public School Districts Research Note 2016-#2 Bruce D. Baker & Mark Weber 8/3/2016 Contrary to current political rhetoric, New Jersey’s least efficient producers of student achievement gains are not the state’s large former Abbott districts – largely poor urban districts that benefited most in terms of state aid increases resulting from decades of litigation over school funding equity and adequacy. While some Abbott districts such as Asbury Park and Hoboken rate poorly on estimates of relative efficiency, other relatively inefficient local public school districts include some of the state’s most affluent suburban districts and small, segregated shore towns. 1 | Page Comparing the Relative Efficiency of New Jersey Public School Districts Executive Summary Contrary to current political rhetoric, New Jersey’s least efficient producers of student achievement gains are not the state’s large former Abbott districts – largely poor urban districts that benefited most in terms of state aid increases resulting from decades of litigation over school funding equity and adequacy. While some Abbott districts such as Asbury Park and Hoboken rate poorly on estimates of relative efficiency, other relatively inefficient local public school districts include some of the state’s most affluent suburban districts and small, segregated shore towns. And yet these districts will be, in effect, rewarded under Governor Chris Christie’s “Fairness Formula,”1 even as equally inefficient but property-poor districts will lose state aid. Findings herein are consistent with previous findings in cost-efficiency literature and analyses specific to New Jersey: There exists some margin of additional inefficiency associated with Abbott status relative to non-Abbott districts in the same district factor group, but the margin of additional inefficiency in the poorest DFG is relatively small.
