This is a continuation of the game Sega Dreamcast Airforce Delta. The game called Airforce Delta Storm was released in 2002 for Game Boy Advance. Having the same name, the plot of this game is based on the previous title of the series, Airforce Delta. The history of AFDS takes place at a fictional time (20X1-20X7), when scientific technology has reached a new level and the ability to cure almost all human diseases has become a reality. As a result, however, the Earth is overcrowded and basic necessities are scarce. At the height of the growing epidemic, those countries that are largely industrialized but do not produce enough food for themselves have united to form a Joint Force and use their military advantages to seize agricultural land, while those countries that are threatened by the United Forces invasion have pooled their resources to form allied forces. The gameplay of AFDS Gameplay is very similar to its predecessor Air Force Delta, in the sense that the player controls various aircraft to engage enemies and perform missions. A new feature of AFDS is the World Map where the player moves his plane around the map through various checkpoints and flies to the mission. Some of these checkpoints, however, can be repulsed by the enemy, so the player must carefully consider how many 'Range' his aircraft has; 'Range' allows the player to continue throughout the map without having to deal with enemy forces. When a player finds a mission on the screen, the player flies on his plane to the mission icon (either a ground structure or a ship) and chooses it. There are three levels of control ranging from a beginner who lets you pick up a game and play without having to learn to control the pitch and scour and how to make a tricky roll during a corkscrew flip. There is a specialist where you can control the field and scour the plane and even make rolls. Then there is an ace, the only way the ace is different from the expert is that you can use the air brake function and throttle sticks in place after you release the magnity/reducing button speed. Differences There are a few differences between AFDS and its predecessor Air Force Delta, here Examples: AFDS does not allow the player to choose the difficulty level. The player can choose the color (but cannot edit) HUD. AFDS does not allow the player to check his stats. Engelhardt, Supervisor Janet M. Davis John Hartigan Mark C. Smith Sharon Strover Masculinity at the Video Game Arcade: 1972-1983 by Carly Ann Kocurek, B.A.; M.A. Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of The University of Texas at Austin in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy The University of Texas at Austin May 2012 Acknowledgements Completing a dissertation is a task that takes the proverbial village. I have been fortunate to have found guidance, encouragement, and support from a diversity of sources. First among these, of course, I must count the members of my committee. Thanks in particular to Elizabeth S. D. Engelhardt who, as chair, served as both critic and cheerleader in equal measure and who has guided this project from its infancy. Janet M. Davis’s interest in the sinews that connect popular culture to broader political concerns has shaped my own approach. Mark C. Smith has been a source of support for the duration of my graduate studies; his investment in students, including graduate and undergraduate, is truly admirable. Were it not for a conversation with Sharon Strover in which she suggested I might consider completing some oral histories of video gaming, I might have pursued another project entirely. John Hartigan, through his incisive questions about the politics of race and gender at play in the arcade, shaped my research concerns.

PARADIGM SHIFT: HOW THE EVOLUTION OF TWO GENERATIONS OF HOME CONSOLES, ARCADES, AND COMPUTERS INFLUENCED AMERICAN CULTURE, 1985-1995 By Jason Terence Wiley A thesis submitted to the Graduate Faculty in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS IN HISTORY University of Central Oklahoma Spring, 2016 iii Abstract Author: Jason Terence Wiley Thesis Chair: Dr. Patricia Loughlin Title of Thesis: Paradigm Shift: How the Evolution of Two Generations of Home Consoles, Arcades, and Computers Influenced American Culture, 1985-1995 Abstract: As of 2016, unlike many popular media forms found here in the United States, video games possess a unique influence, one that gained its own a large widespread appeal, but also its own distinct cultural identity created by millions of fans both here stateside and across the planet. Yet, despite its significant contributions, outside of the gaming’s arcade golden age of the early 1980s, the history of gaming post Atari shock goes rather unrepresented as many historians simply refuse to discuss the topic for trivial reasons thus leaving a rather noticeable gap within the overall history. One such important aspect not covered by the majority of the scholarship and the primary focus of thesis argues that the history of early modern video games in the North American market did not originate during the age of Atari in the 1970s and early 1980s. Instead, the real genesis of today’s market and popular gaming culture began with the creation and establishment of the third and fourth generation of video games, which firmly solidified gaming as both a multi-billion dollar industry and as an accepted form of entertainment in the United States.
