2021Seniors Calendar Thomas Sidney Umpleby

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is proud to be home to residents that value community and have contributed so greatly to all that we are today. As we grow in numbers and in age there are resources and services we may be ready to access. Family and Community Support Services hopes that this calendar can provide information as well as connection to those services in the community. Thank you all for choosing Fort Saskatchewan as your home. Exercise for Bone Health Regular exercise is important for muscle strength, spine protection, falls prevention and to slow the rate of bone loss. Even if you do not have osteoporosis, exercise improves physical fi tness, energy levels, and mental health. Osteoporosis Canada recommends: • Strength training • Realignment yoga • Balance activities • Walking or jogging • Consult with a physical therapist or a doctor to ensure safety

For detailed information on emergency kits and planning please visit www.aema.alberta.ca Elder Abuse Seniors are the least likely demographic to suffer violent crime, but the most likely to suffer at the hands of a family member or caregiver. Knowledge is the key to prevention - it is possible to prevent elder abuse. • Plan for your future while you are independent and mentally capable. • Have a Power of Attorney (POA) or a Living Will to express how you want to address your fi nances and health care decisions to avoid confusion and problems later. • Ensure your POA for both is someone you know, you trust and someone who will respect your wishes.
