FAUSTTOPHEL - Sancta Simplicitas "Sancta Simplicitas" - the second full-length album by the Russian Melodic Black/Death Metal band FAUSTTOPHEL. The second full-length album by the Russian Melodic Black/Death Metal band. Electric polarity between Black Metal aggressive and melodious of instrumental experiments, united with poetic lyrics. The second album didn't lose the distinctive characteristic of the band - a bilingual lyrics where Russian and Ukrainian languages melodies originaly interlaced, preserving Gogol's mysticism and soft lullabies melodiousness of folk songs. a special place allotted to a poetry: recitations to music, fragments of poems of the Silver Age era, joined together with melodious of Ukrainian language. Fausttophel do not adhere to strict canons as part of their style and constantly experimenting with arrangements. However, in the album instead of the newfangled "licked" sound clearly heard old-school music sounding. All this - in contrast to the aggressive blast beats, powerful high-speed guitar riffs and avant-garde instrumental compositions. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

éééééeDITO Dans de nombreux fanzines, il m’est arrivé de lire en début d’édito : « 1 an que je suis dessus à en chier… du coup les chroniques et interviews ne sont pas, fraîchement parlant, d’une actualité à toute épreuve… » etc. A défaut d’être original, ça fait bien 1 an que l’on a eu cette idée de créer un ’zine ! Yo. L’idée était de pondre un fanzine gratuit à 1000 exemplaires, consacré à la BD et à la scène punk, alternative, DIY… (comme tu veux tu dis). Il a donc fallu trouver un « financement » pour payer la gratuité, en refusant évidemment toutes formes de subventions ou autres sys- tèmes pourvus d’originalité, par respect des lecteurs et de nous-mêmes. Sans vouloir tomber dans le confort nihiliste, il existe suffisamment de modalités / morales / fonctionnements ou autres pressions quotidiennes sans réelles alternatives, ce qui n’est pas le cas en ce qui concerne la contre-culture* (*terme qu’il va falloir penser à rejeter, mais je n’en ai pas d’autre sous la main). Nous décidons alors d’organiser un concert de soutien le 9 décembre 2005, et proposons à 2 groupes du coin (Shedding Skin et Fuck Off Für And The Putrid Sound) qui acceptent d’y participer. L’info ayant circulé, 2 autres groupes attirés par le rougeâtre de table johan- nique… (Décombres et James Brown’s Hide Show), de Paris cette fois, se proposent. L’affiche est bookée et nous sommes contents de réunir ces groupes pour boire ce putain de rougeâtre ensemble.

Interview with Sascha of the German Death Metal band MANDATORY (October 18th, 2008) Conducted by Kunal N. Choksi for Diabolical Conquest.com (D.C.) DC: Hello Sascha! How are you doing? What are you up to these days? Sascha: Thx for the interview bro! I am preparing mixing the new album "Adrift Beyond“ and writing/recording new music. Business as usual. (Note: This interview was done before the decision of mixing at Sunlight Studio). DC: How does it feel being regarded as one of the best active death metal demo bands in the underground? Though formed in 2001, your band has released only demos so far, four of them if I'm not mistaken. Why the release of so many demos before Mandatory could record a proper album? Would you advise a new band to record a few demos first? Sascha: We actually recorded a first album in 2003 but due to problems with the mixing studio we got problems with the files and finally lost interest in the album after a few months. Basically it was nothing else but the first MCD "Divine Destruction“ plus 3 more songs we recorded some weeks after releasing the MCD. On our new compilation "Exiled In Pain“ you get all of these previously unreleased songs. So, you can say you get our never released first album with a lot of bonus tracks in that package. As for your second question: Hell yes! You should do at least one or two demos to get more skilled at songwriting and especially arranging songs. All of the great bands did some demos before their first album.

More recently, studies have neglected content analysis due to perceived homogeneity in themes, despite evidence that the modern genre is distinct from its past. As lyrical patterns are strong markers of genre, this study attempts to characterize heavy metal in the 21st century by analyzing lyrics for specific themes and perspectives. Citing evidence that the “Millennial” generation confers significant developments to popular culture, the contemporary genre is termed “Millennial heavy metal” throughout, and the study is framed accordingly.
