RAFAEL Armament Development Authority Ltd.develops and produces state-of-the-art armaments for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)and Israel’s defense system, while deriving its economic strength from international sales. The company provides innovative solutions on the technological cutting edge from underwater, naval, land and air through space systems. AFAEL focuses on such areas as Electronic Warfare (EW), RCommand, Control , Communi- cations, Computers and Intelligence (C 4 I), training and simulators, armor and precision guided weapon systems. The company has also formed partnerships with civilian counterparts to develop commercial applications based on its proprietary technologies. RAFAEL is the second largest government-owned defense company in Israel. In 2005, the company’s sales amounted to $862 million and new orders to the tune of $919 million. The net profit of the company in 2005 was $21 million. The company has opened 2006 with a backlog of orders amounting to $1.85 billion of which approximately 60 per cent is intended for export. In 2005, the company transferred the first dividend to the State of Israel at a total of NIS (New Israeli sheqel) 40 million. In addition, the company was the first to raise approximately NIS 350 by issuing stocks and bonds to founding investors. RAFAEL was founded in 1948 as Israel’s National R&D Defense Labora- tory within the Ministry of Defense, and focused initially on missile technology.
