Following its release on 16th December 2016, the game has received mixed reviews with a rating of 9/10 on steam and just 71% on Metacritic. Whilst players are enthusiastic about its visuals and multi-player gameplay, some have been critical of the game’s optimisation and buggy menu system. Astroneer was developed by System Era Softworks ad published by Gearbox publishing, also known for games such as Borderlands and Battleborn. The game is run on Unreal Engine and is available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Save Location. Over the years we’ve evolved from a humble regional conference into a truly global industry event, as our vision of a strong, united games community and the values so many of us share - openness, innovation and diversity - have resonated with games industry professionals around the world, and they have been welcomed into our extended family. Of course, we continue to proudly celebrate the sheer quality and variety of games developed in the Nordic countries, and this year’s Nordic Game Awards (Thursday, 24 May from 18:00 in the Unreal Theatre) once again reflects the imagination and vitality of developers from the region we call home. However, our rapidly changing, interconnected industry doesn’t allow us to rest on our laurels, and our opening keynote (Wednesday, 23 May at 11:00 in the Unreal Theatre) brings together a panel of leaders from some of our most prominent Nordic studios to explore key challenges and opportunities for game developers moving forward. On April 20, 1990, Japanese video game developer Intelligent Systems and Nintendo unveiled a fantasy tactical role-playing game. The game is called Fire Emblem: “ Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi”. It is better known as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light for the Famicom. 30 years since the franchise’s inception, 15 more Fire Emblem titles will follow. This is the path laid out by the first title made up of 12 original titles and 3 remakes. All of which are exclusive to Nintendo consoles, except for FEH Heroes. The Fire Emblem franchise is a unique game that employs the use of Permadeath or Permanent Death. This means that the death of a character in battle is permanent. As interesting as this feature may be, it is not for everyone. Which is why it has long become an optional feature in all the original installments. Additionally, Fire Emblem also features a grid-based battlefield. This is governed by a turn-based gameplay structure. On top of that are the various classes and skills unique to each character. With that said, Fire Emblem Heroes in addition to its free-to-play structure does not come with the Permadeath feature. Instead, each character’s death equals the removal of EXP or experience points earned within the map. Other than that, Fire Emblem: Heroes is an excellent spin-off game. This is for those who are not yet ready to tackle the Permadeath feature in the original games. -

BAFTA Games Awards 2017 Thomas Arthur th Last week on the 6 April, BAFTA announced the winners of the British Academy Games Awards at its annual awards ceremony, hosted by Danny Wallace at Tobacco Dock, London. Since 2004, the awards have served to celebrate outstanding creative achievement in games, with 16 categories ranging from artistic achievement to game innovation. Here’s our rundown of everything you need to know about 2017’s winners. Uncharted 4 (Best Game) Platform: PS4 Naughty Dog were top dog at this year’s Games Awards, winning Best Game for the fourth and final instalment of their critically acclaimed Uncharted series. Set three years after the events of the previous game, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End concludes Nathan Drake’s globetrotting adventure, exploring the relationship between Nate and his presumed-dead brother Sam in their search for a lost fortune. Over a sprawling 15 hours of game time, Uncharted 4 balances the franchise’s action-packed gameplay with a grounded and more mature story than its predecessors, with actors such as Richard McGonagle (Victor Sullivan) and Emily Rose (Elena Fisher) reprising their roles from PS3 and PS Vita games. BAFTA’s jury of industry practitioners were just as impressed as we were with Uncharted 4’s conclusive narrative, impressive sound design, and high graphical fidelity. Accompanied by an impressive soundtrack from composer Henry Jackman, its staple gameplay of parkour, puzzle, and shooter sequences takes players across the world from the Scottish highlands to Italian streets and Madagascan jungles.
