Waxing Pre Post and FAQ

If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for in our Wax FAQ, contact us at 801-878-9895 or [email protected] We’ve probably heard and answered any question you can think of!

DOES HURT?

Yes and no. Waxing does hurt most the first time. There are two reasons for this: We are removing a lot of coarse during the first visit – especially if you’ve been . With repeat visits (including your very next visit), discomfort from waxing is greatly diminished. It is shocking to have all of your hair pulled out by the root. During return visits, there will be less hair to remove, thus less pain. To sum it up, yes, your first waxing treatment will hurt and it will take the longest time to complete. In the future, for minimum discomfort and to ensure speedy visits, come in for waxing treatments every 4 weeks.

BEFORE YOUR WAX APPOINTMENT;

Please stop tweezing or shaving about 3 weeks prior to your first treatment!

HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR REALLY HAVE TO BE? Your hair should be 1/2 to a 1/4 inch long, or about the length of a grain of rice, which for most is about 3 weeks of outgrowth since your last shave. I know, I know, letting it grow is hard, but yes, 3 weeks. I promise it is worth it! If you come in too soon we can’t wax you.

IS HOME CARE NECESSARY? Yes. Home care is a must to ensure the best results. Start your home care the day after receiving your waxing treatment, even if irritation is present. Before that (i.e directly after your treatment and then for at least 12 hours) refrain from using the sauna, deodorant and from tanning. We encourage you to discontinue tweezing, shaving or using any other method of during your wax life. At Shearology we have a pre wax specific skin exfoliant and a post wax serum that can help you have better results.

WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER OR STRONGER? Nope! Only hormonal changes – either natural or artificial – can alter our hair. When we experience and our hair changes, we begin to shave and we liken the hair change as the result of the shaving. Shaving blunt cuts our hair and thus leaves a stubble. Waxing pulls the hair out by the root so when it regrows, it is very fine at the tip. With waxing, new hair growth is soft. Each time you wax, the hair will become thinner and thinner!

HOW LONG WILL MY WAXING TREATMENT LAST? For most people it is recommended to wax every 4 weeks with great success. Please keep in mind that It is important to have 3 weeks of outgrowth before your initial waxing to have maximum hair removal. More times than not, the hair on your , underarms, brows, and upper will have a quicker response rate to waxing. Your legs, however, will likely not be as smooth after your first visit. You’ll not be able to see the hair but you will feel it. Please note that hair grows in 3 stages, so you’ll need 3 waxing services, 4 weeks apart to have your wax stay beautifully smooth all the time.

WILL MY SKIN EXPERIENCE A REACTION? Yes, it is a possibility. The upper lip, back and chest are all areas that are prone to breakouts. If you have a tendency towards ingrown and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reactions with waxing, so a pre wax exfoliation 24-48 hours prior will help minimize this type of skin reaction. All-in-all, come in like clockwork, every 4 weeks on the dot, exfoliate your skin and moisturize. This will help set you up for waxing success!

IS WAXING UNSANITARY? No! Wax in general is antibacterial, simply because there is zero water in the product. In order for bacteria to grow, some amount of water must be present. However, on top of that, at Shearology we practice smart, clean waxing and take universal precautions! We use gloves, disposable sticks, and strips, clean & prep the skin with disposable esthetic wipes prior to hair removal, disinfect our tools and NEVER double dip! Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have with us.

WHY WAX? Waxing is a form of hair removal that removes the entire hair from the . Unlike shaving, hair removal creams, or clippers, which blunty cut the hair at the surface. Warm wax is applied to the skin and “shrink wraps” around the hair follicle allowing the hair to be pulled from the root. Because the entire hair is removed, skin is left very smooth and outlasts any other form of hair removal, you wont believe it till you try it.

WHAT DO I WEAR TO MY WAXING APPOINTMENT? We suggest wearing loose clothing. The skin is usually sensitive post waxing and you won’t want to wear anything that rubs.

WHAT SHOULD I NOT DO AFTER A WAXING SERVICE? No massage No spray tanning Do not get extremely sweaty No working out No saunas or hot yoga No sun exposure to the waxed area No sexual intercouse if area waxed was a bikini or Brazilian etc., All that  for 24 hours.

WILL I BE COMPLETELY SMOOTH MY FIRST WAX OR NOT? You will not get the best wax until your 3rd wax visit. This is due to the 3 stages of hair growth. So, 3 growth stages + 3 waxes = the best wax. By “best wax” we mean: No hair left behind, ultimate smoothness, slow hair regrowth and little skin irritation. That said, it will be much smoother!

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME IN? Come in for a wax every 4 weeks. We do experience different growth rates but on average, the 4-week mark is the best time. This timing is based on the 3 stages of hair growth. Please note: The moment you shave, tweeze, or use hair removal cream, you become a virgin wax again. Your third-time’s-a-charm waxing cycle restarts and you must wait until your third wax for the perfect waxing experience. Patience is key!

WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU USE? We use high quality, low heat, Agape all purpose honey strip wax ans agape hard wax for sensitive areas, we use hard wax.

WHAT THE HECK IS A BRAZILIAN?

It’s kind of like a Bikini wax on steroids! A Brazilian wax is the complete removal of hair, front and back. You decide if you want to go completely bare or would like to keep a small landing strip or triangle of hair.

WHAT ABOUT THE MANZILIAN (MALE BRAZILIAN)? During a Manzilian wax, we remove all of the hair from the male bikini area, the scrotum, and the butt crack. The Manzilian does not include the glutes, but will happily add that to your service if you wish!

DO I HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY UNDRESSED FOR A BRAZILIAN? Well, yes. But you will only need to undress from the waist down (including your underwear). We know it may be a little unnerving for you, you’ve never met our staff, we’ll going to be applying warm wax, your goods are hanging out – but trust us, we do this ALL day long. It’s just a body part to us. Shearology is a no judgement zone. Come as you are.

I’M PREGNANT! CAN I GET WAXED? YUP. It may just be a little more uncomfortable.

I AM ON , WILL THIS AFFECT MY WAX? Prior to your initial service, you will complete an intake consult form. Please advise your esthetician of any medical or skin conditions and also if you are taking any prescribed by a doctor such as Retin-A or Accutane. Users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Accutane are advised not to use waxing on the face as these medications tend to weaken the skin. Because of this, tearing of the skin may occur when the wax is removed.

CAN I GET A WAX WHILE I’M MENSTRUATING? You can, but it will be more painful. If you are unable to reschedule, you can just insert a tampon and you’re good to go. Most prefer to reschedule.

DO I STILL NEED TO WAX, TWEEZE, THREAD? Yes, hair will continue to grow.
