The Praise is for Allah Lord of the saww saww asws Worlds, and Blessing be upon our Chief Muhammad and his Purified Progeny , and greetings with abundant greetings.

َّ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ اَللُه َّمِ َص ِّلِ َعلىُُِمََّمدَِّوآلُُِمََّمدَِّوَع ِّج ْلِفَ َرَجُه ْمَِوالَْع ْنِأَْعَدائَ ُه ْمِاَ ْْجَعْنيِ ‘Hair Style, Cutting and Removing’

Introduction:

Some Ahadith are compiled to highlight some essential issues related to hair growing, hair cutting, hair style, and parting and removal of unwanted hair through cutting, plucking or waxing.

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّعَ ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقَاَلِأَمريُِالُْمْؤمنِ َنيِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ََِلِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ََْتلُقواِال ِّصْب يَا َنِالَْقَزعََِوِالَْقَزعُِأَْنََِيْل َقَِمْوضعاًَِوِيََد َعَِمْوضعاًِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al-Nowfaly, from Al-Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Amir Al-Momineenasws said: ‘Do not shave off the children in the cracked (manner), and the cracked is that he is shaved in a place and left in a place’.1

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ْنِ َجْعَفرِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِاْْلَ ْشعَر ِّيِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِالَْقَّداِحِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبِدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِأَنَّهُ َِكا َنِيَ ْكَرهُِالَْقَزَعِِفِ ِ َِّ ِ ُرءُو ِسِال ِّصْب يَانَِوِذََكَرِأََّنِالَْقَزعَِأَْنَُِْيلَ َقِالَّرأْ ُسِإَلِقَليًالَِوِي ُْت َرَكَِو َس ُطِالَّرأْ ِسِيُ َسَّمىِالَْقَزعَةَِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, form his father, from Ja’far Bin Muhammad Al Ashary, from Ibn Al Qaddah,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws that heasws used to dislike the cracked () in the heads of the children, and mentioned that the cracked (shaving) is that the head is only shaved a little, and the middle of the head is left, it is named as the cracked (shaving)’.2

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِعَ ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّعَ ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِِأُِتَِالنَُِِّّبِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِب َصٍِِّبِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ يَْدعُوِلَهَُِِوِلَهُِقَ نَاِزعُِفَأَََبِأَْنِيَْدعَُوِلَهَُِوِأََمَرِِبَلْقَِرأْسهَِوِأََمَرَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِِبَِْلقِ َشْعرِالْبَطْ ِنِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

Abu Abd Allahasws has said: ‘They came to the Prophetsaww with a young boy to supplicate for him, and for him was a cracked shaving. So hesaww refused to supplicate for him and ordered that his head be shaved off. And Rasool-Allahsaww ordered with the shaving of ’ (below الْبَطْن‘ belly button) the stomach ’.3

Hair Parting (Style):

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ ِ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِ َع ْنِ َسْهِلِبْ ِنِزيَادِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِأَِِبِنَ ْصرِ َع ْنَِداُوَدِبْ ِنِا ْْلُ َسْنيِِ َع ْنِأَِِبِالَْعبَّا ِسِالْبَ ْقبَا ِقَاَلِ َسأَلْ ُ ِأَبَاِ ِ َِّ َعْبِدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِ َع ِنِالَّرُجِلِيَ ُكوُنِلَهَُِوفْ َرةٌِأَِي َْفُرقُ َهاِأَْوِيََدعَُهاِفَ َقاَلِي َْفُرقُ َهاِ.

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Abu Nasr, from Dawood Bin Al Husayn, from Abu Al Abbas Al Baqbaaq who said,

‘I asked Abu Abd Allahasws about the man who happens to have abundance (of hair), shall he part (style) it or leave it?’ So heasws said: ‘He should part (style) it’.4

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ َِّ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِعَ ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقَاَلَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ َّ ِ ِ َم ِنِاَّتََذِ َشْعراًِفَ ْليُ ْحس ْنِِوََلي َتَهُِأَْوِليَ ُجَّزهُِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘The one who takes (grows) hair, so let him make it good and take care of it or (else) trim it’.5

ٍ ٍ ِ َِّ َِّ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنِ َْحَّادِعَ ْنِأَيُّو َبِبْ ِنَِهاُروَنِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقُ ْل ُ ِلَهُِأََِكا َنَِرُسوُلِاللهِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِِ )ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِي َْفُرُ ِ َشْعَرهُِقَاَلََِلِإ َّنَِرُسوَلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(َِكا َنِإذَاِطَاَلِ َشْعُرهَُِكِا َنِإََلِ َش ْحَمةِأُذُنهِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Hammad, from Ayoub Bin Haroun,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws, said, ‘I said to himasws, ‘Did Rasool-Allahsaww used to part (style) hissaww hair?’ Heasws said: ‘No. Whenever Rasool-Allahsaww lengthened hissaww hair, it would be to the lobe of hissaww ear’.6

. ِ م نِكت ابِروض ةِال واعانينِق الِالن هِبِص ليِاهللِعلي هِوِال هِوِس لمِاا ؤم ُنِبيت هِقص ٌث،ِوطعام هِكس ٌر،ِورأس هِش ع ٌ ،ِو ياب هِ ِ . َخل ٌق،قلبهِخاش ٌع،ِوَلِيعدلِالسالمةِشيئاًِ ِ

In Rauzat al-Vaezeen it is narrated that the Rasool Allahsaww said: "A believer's house is simple, his is little, his hair is not styled, his clothes are simple, but he is humble and 7 ".peace with anything ’السالمة‘ does not exchange his

ح هد ناِالفقي هِموفه قِال دينِاْلس نِب نُِمهم دِالص وِفِالس رويِع نِش يوخهِع نِالن هِبِص ليِاهللِعلي هِوِال هِوِس لمِأن ههِق النِأجيع واِ أكبادكم،ِوأعروِصوركم،ِوأشعثواِرؤوسكم،ِو ُصبهواِعليكمِ َجلبابِاْل ُزن،ِوجالس واِالن اسِقل يالًِوم عِاهللِكث رياً،ِلعلهك مِت رونِاْل هقِ بقلوبكم. ِ

Al-Hassan ibn Muhammad al-Soofi al-Sarvi quoted on the authority of his teachers that

Rasool Allahsaww said: "Keep yourself hungry, your faces uncovered, your hair not made up, and be grievous. Associate less with the people and more with Allahazwj. Then you may see ‘Haq’ through your hearts."8

Long hair or Short hair?

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ٍ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِ َع ْنِ َسْهِلِبْ ِنِزيَادِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِعي َسىِ َع ْنِ َع ْمروِبْ ِنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِ َخلَفِبْ ِنِ َْحَّادِعَ ْنِ َع ْمروِبْ ِنِ َاب ِعَ ْنِأَِِبِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َعْبدِاللَّهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقُ لْ ُ ِإن َُّه ْمِي َْرُووَنِأََّنِالَْفْرَ ِم َنِال ُّسنَّةِقَاَلِم َنِال ُّسنَّةِق ُْل ُ ِي َْزعُ ُموَنِأََّنِالنَِِِّّبِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ ِ ِ فَ َرَ ِقَاَلَِماِفَ َرَ ِالنَُِِّّبِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(َِوََِلَِكا َنِاْْلَنْبيَاءُِ)ِعليهمِالسالمِ(ُُِتْسِ ُكِال َّشْعَرِ.

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad Bin Isa, from Amro Bin Ibrahim, from Khalaf Bin Hammad, from Amro Bin Sabit,

I (the narrator) asked from Abu Abd Allahasws, ‘They (people) are reporting that the parting (hair styling) is from the Sunnah’. Heasws said: ‘From the Sunnah?’ I said, ‘They are alleging that the Prophetsaww parted’. Heasws said: ‘The Prophetsaww did not part, nor did the Prophetsas beforehand keep (long) hair’.9

عنِعبدِالرْحانِبنِأِبِليلىِعهمنِحهد هِأنههِقالنِكن ُ ِمعِأِبِاْلسنِعليهِالسالمِأيهامِحبسهِببغدادِوكانِيلِش عٌر،ِفق النِج هزِ ٍ ِ شعرك،ِمثهِقالنِ ال ُثِخصالَِمنِك هنِفيهِفرتكه هنِملِيعدِإليه هنِأبداً،َِمنِكانِلهِشعرِفطهمهِملِيعدِيوفهرِشعرهِأبداًِااِيصيثِمنِ ِ اللهذةِوالراحة،ِوَمنِكانِيلبسِ وباًِطويالِفشهمرِملِيعدِيلبسِ وباًِطويالًِااِجيدِمنِالراحة،ِوَم نِكان ِعن دهِ ُح هرةٌِفطلهقه اِواهَّت ذِ ٍ ِ ِ اإلماءِملِيعدِإَلِ ُحهرةِأبداًِخلهفةِمؤونةِاإلماءِومتابعته هنِِفِْجيعِاْلاَلت،ِقالنِإ هنِاهللِج هلِوعهزِقالِلنبيههِصليِاهللِعليهِوِالهِوِ ِ ِ . سلمنِ]َو يابَكِفَطَّهْر[ِوكان ِ يابهِطاهرةًِوإهّناِأمرهِبالتشمري ِ

Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Layla narrated that he was imprisoned along with Imam Kazimasws, and his hair was long. Imam Kazimasws said: "Cut your hair short. There are three things which one will never abandon doing, once he starts doing them. The first one is cutting his hair. Once he cuts his hair short and feels how comfortable it is, he will never again let his hair grow long…… (an Extract)10

Rasool Allahsaww only once did not Cut hair ‘short’ due to Deferred Hajj:11

ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ُُمََّمُدِبِْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِعي َسىِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِأَِِبِنَ ْصرِ َع ْنِ َعل ِّيِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َْحَْزةَِ َع ْنِأَِِبِبَصريِِقَاَلِقُ ْل ُ ِْلَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِ ِ ِ َِّ َِّ السالمِ(ِالَْفْرُ ِم َنِال ُّسنَّةِقَاَلََِلِق ُْل ُ ِفَ َه ْلِفَ َرَ َِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِقَاَلِن ََع ْمِقُ ْل ُ َِكيْ َفِفَ َرَ َِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِ ِ ِ َِّ َِّ اهللِعليهِوآلهِ(َِوِلَْي َسِم َنِال ُّسنَّةِقَاَلَِم ْنِأَ َصابَهَُِماِأَ َصا َبَِرُسوَلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِي َْفُرُ َِكَِماِفَ َرَ َِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِ ِ ِ ِ اهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِفَ َقِ ْدِأَ َصا َبِ ُسنَّةََِرُسولِاللَّهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(َِوِإََّلِفََالِ

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ibn Abu Nasr, from Ali Bin Abu Hamza, from Abu Baseer who said,

‘I said to Abu Abd Allahasws, ‘The parting (of the hair) is from the Sunnah?’ Heasws said: ‘No’. I said, ‘So did Rasool-Allahsaww part (the hair)?’ Heasws said: ‘Yes’. I said, ‘How is it that Rasool- Allahsaww parted and it is not from the Sunnah?’ Heasws said: ‘The one who is hit by what Rasool-Allahsaww was hit by would be parting just as Rasool-Allahsaww parted, so he would have abided by the Sunnah, or else, so no’.

ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ َّ قُ ْل ُ ِلَهُ َِكْي َفِذَل َكِقَاَلِإ َّنَِرُسوَلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِح َنيِ ُصَّدِ َع ِنِالْبَ ْي َِوِقَْد َِكا َنِ َسا َ ِاْْلَْد َيَِوِأَ ْحَرَمِِأََراهُِاللهُِالُّرْؤيَاِ َّ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ َّ ِِ ِِّ الِِتِأَ ْخبَ َرهُِاللهُِِبَاِِف ِكتَابهِإْذِي َُقوُلِلََقْدِ َصَد َ ِاللهَُِرُسولَهُِالُّرْؤياِبا ْْلَِّقِلَتَْد ُخلُ َّنِِالَْم ْسجَدِا ْْلَراَمِإ ْنِشاءَِاللهُِآمن َنيُُِمَلق َنيُِرُؤ َس ُك ْمِ َوُِمَق ِّصِري َنَِلََِّتافُوَنِ I said to himasws, ‘How is that?’ Heasws said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww, when hesaww was turned away from the House (Kabah), and hesaww had ushered the sacrificial animal, and wore the Ihraam, Allahazwj Showed himsaww the vision in which Allahazwj Informed himsaww of it in Hisazwj Book Allah has Validated the dream of His Rasool with the Truth - You will be entering the Sacred Masjid in safety if Allah so Desires, your heads being shaven and (others) with hair- cut, not fearing. He Knows what you do not know, and He Made from besides that, a near victory [48:27].

ِ َِّ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ فَ َعل َمَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِأََّنِاللهَِ َسيَفيِلَهُِِبَاِأََراهُِفَم ْنَِمثََِّوفَّ َرِذَل َكِال َّشْعَرِِالذي َِكا َنِ َعلَىَِرأْسهِح َنيِأَ ْحَرَمِانْتاَاراًِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ْلَْلقهِِفِا ْْلََرمِ َحْي ُ َِوَعَدهُِاللهُِعََّزَِوِ َجلَِّفَ لََّماِ َحلََقهُِ َملِْيُعْدِِفِتَ ْوفريِال َّشْعرَِوََِلَِكا َنِذَل َكِمِ ْنِقَ ْبلهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ.

10 Mishkat ul Anwar, H. 1544 11 It is narrated from Imam Abu Abdullahasws that a person who intends to perform Hajj, should neither get a haircut nor trim beard upon citing the new moon of Ziqqad.(Al-Kafi, vol. 4, chapt. 72, Tradition 3) For Umrah, one should stop cutting hair and beard one month in advance.(Al-Kafi, vol. 4, chapt. 72, Tradition 4)

Thus, Rasool-Allahsaww knew that Allahazwj would be Fulfilling for him with what Heazwj had Shown himsaww. So from then onwards, hesaww preserved the hair which was upon hissaww head when hesaww was in Ihraam, awaiting to shave it off in the Sanctuary, since Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic has Promised himsaww. So when hesaww did shave it off, did not repeat the preservation of the hair (having long hair), nor was that from hissaww own self’.12

The Beard and the Moustache

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ٍ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِأَِِبِعَُمْريِ َع ْنِه َشامِبْ ِنِالُْمثَ ََّّنِ َع ْنِ َسديرِال َّصْي َر ِِّفِقَِاَلَِِرأَيْ ُ ِأَبَاِ َجْعَفرِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِيَأْ ُخُذِ ِ ِ ِ َعار َضيْهَِوِي ُبَطِّ ُنِْلْيَتَهُِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hisham Bin Al Musna, from Sadeyr Al Sayrafi who said,

‘I saw Abu Ja’farasws pluck hisasws two cheeks, and line hisasws beard’.13

ٍ َّ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ٍِ ِ ا ْْلُ َسُْنيِبْ ُنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنُِمَعلىِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدَِوِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنِ َصال ِحِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َْحَّادِ َْجيعاًِعَِ ِنِالَْو َّشاءِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنِ َعائذِعَ ْنِأَِِبِ َخدجيَةَِ َّ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َع ْنُِمَعلىِبْ ِنِ ُخنَ ْي ٍسِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللِهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلَِماَِزاَدِم َنِاللِّ ْحيَةِ َع ِنِالَْقبْ َضةِفَ ُهَوِِفِالنَّارِ.

Al Husayn Bin Muhammad, from Moala Bin Muhammad, and Ali Bin Muhammad, from Salih Bin Abu Hammad, altogether from Al Washa, from Ahmad Bin A’aiz, from Abu Khadeeja, from Moala Bin Khunays, from

Abu Abd Allahasws has said: ‘Whatever exceeds from the beard from the fist, so it is in the Fire’.14

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِِ ِ ِ َِّ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْنِأَِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ َع ْنِعَل ِّيِبْنِإ ْس َحا َ ِبْنِ َسْعدِعَ ْنِيُونُ َسِ َع ْنِب َْعضِأَ ْص َحابهِ َع ْنِأَِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِ ِ ِ ِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِّ ِ السالمِ(ِِفِقَْدرِالل ْحيَةِقَاَلِت َْقب ُضِبيَدَكِ َعلَىِالل ْحيَةَِوََِتُُّزَِماِفَ َض َلِ.

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Abu Abd Allah, from Ali Bin Is’haq Bin Sa’ad, from one of his companions,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws regarding the extent of the beard. Heasws said: ‘Clutch your beard by your , and cut whatever remains’.15

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘It is from the Sunnah that you trim from the moustache until it reaches the verge’ (of the ).16

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ َِّ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِعَ ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقَاَلَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ََلِيُطَِّولَ َّنِأَ َحُدُك ْمِ َشاربَهُِفَإ َّنِال َّشيْطَا َنِي َتَّخُذهََُِمْبَأًِيَ ْستَرتُِبهِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘Not one of you should lengthen his moustache, for the Satanla takes it as a hideout to hide by’.17

ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِِ ِ ِ ٍِ ٍ َعْنهُِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْضرِبْ ِنِ ُسَويْدِ َع ْنِب َْع ِضِأَ ْص َحابهِ َع ْنِأَِِبِأَيُّو َبِا ْخلََّزازِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنُِم ْسلمِقَاَلَِرأَيْ ُ ِأَبَاِ َجْعَفرِ)ِصلواتِاهللِ ِ ِ ِِ عليهِ(َِوِا ْْلَ َّجامُِيَأْ ُخُذِم ْنِْلْيَتهِفَ َقاَلَِدِّوْرَهاِ.

From him, from his father, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from one of his companions, from Abu Ayoub Al Khazzaz, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said,

‘I saw Abu Ja’farasws and the was trimming from hisasws beard, so heasws said: ‘Curve it’.18

ٍ ٍ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِفَ َّضالِ َعَّم ْنِذََكَرهُِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِذََكْرنَاِاْْلَ ْخَذِم َنِال َّشاربِفَ َقاَلِ ِ ِ نُ ْشَرةٌَِوُِهَوِم َنِال ُّسنَّةِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Fazzal, from the one who mentioned it,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws, said, ‘We mentioned the trimming from the moustache, so heasws said: ‘It is a good display, and it is from the Sunnah’.19

ٍ ٍ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ َعْنهُِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِفَ َّضالِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِبُ َكْريِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِت َْقلي ُمِاْْلَظَْفارَِوِأَ ْخُِذِال َّشاربِِفِ ُِك ِّلِ ُْجُعَةِأََما ٌنِم َنِ ِ الْبَ َر ِصَِوِا ْْلُنُونِ.

From him, from Ibn Fazzal, from Ibn Bukeyr,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Trimming the nails, and taking (trimming) the moustache during every Friday is a safety from the vitiligo and the insanity’.20

The Combing Hair of head and beard:

ٍ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِيََْيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنِ َعل ِّيِبْ ِنِا ْْلَ َكمِعَ ْنِ َعْبدِاللهِبْ ِنِ ُجْنَدبِعَ ْنِ ُسْفيَِا َنِبْ ِنِال ِّس ْمطِقَاَلِقَاَلِِيلِأَبُوِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ عليهِالسالمِ(ِالث َّْو ُبِالنَّق ُّيِيَ ْكب ُ ِالَْعُدَّوَِوِالُّدْه ُنِيَْذَه ُثِبالْبُ ْؤ ِسَِوِالَْم ْش ُطِللَّرأْ ِسِيَْذَه ُثِبالَْوبَاءِقَاَلِقُ ْل ُ َِوَِماِالَْوبَاءُِقَاَلِ ِِّ ِ ا ْْلَُّمىَِوِالَْم ْش ُطِلل ْحيَةِيَ ُشُّدِاْْلَ ْضَرا َسِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Abdullah Bin Jundab, from Sufyan Bin Al Samt who said,

‘Abu Abd Allahasws said to me: ‘The clean clothes suppress the enemy, and the oiling removes the anguish, and the combing for the head removes Al-Waba (illness)’. I said, ‘And what is Al-Waba?’ Heasws said: ‘The fever. And combing the beard strengthens the teeth’.21

ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ُْحَْيُدِبْ ُنِزيَادِ َع ِنِا ْْلَ َس ِنِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِ ََسَاعَةَِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنِا ْْلَ َس ِنِالْميثَم ِّيِ َع ْنُُِمََِّمدِبْ ِنِإ ْس َحا َ ِ َع ْنِ َعَّمارِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ْنِأَبيهِقَاَلِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ََسْع ُ ِأَبَاِا ْْلَ َس ِنِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِي َُقوُلِالَْم ْش ُطِيَْذَه ُثِبالَْوبَاءَِو َِكا َنِْلَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ُِم ْش ٌطِِفِالَْم ْسجدِي َتََم َّش ُطِ ِِ ِ ِ ِِ بهِإذَاِفَ َرَغِم ْنِِ َصَالتهِ.

Humeyd Bin Ziyad, from Al Hassan Bin Muhammad Bin Sama’at, from Ahmad Bin Al Hassan Al Maysami, form Muhammad Bin Is’haq, from Ammar Al Nowfaly, from his father who said,

‘I heard Abu Al-Hassanasws saying: ‘The combing removes the Al-Waba (fever), and for Abu Abd Allahasws (there) was a in the Masjid, combing with it whenever heasws was free from the Prayer’.22

ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِعي َسىِ َع ِنِابْ ِنَُِْمبُوبِعَ ْنِنَ ْضرِبْ ِنِإ ْس َحا َ ِعَ ْنِ َعنْبَ َسِةَِبْ ِنِ َسعيدَِرفََعِا ْْلَدي َ ِإََلِالنَِِِّّبِ)ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ صلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِقَاَلَِكثْ َرةُِتَ ْسري ِحِالَّرأْ ِسِتَْذَه ُثِبالَْوبَاءَِوََِْتل ُثِالِّرْزَ َِوِتَزيُدِِفِا ْْلَماِعِِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ibn Mahboub, from Nazar Bin Is’haq, from Anbasa Bin Saeed,

(It has been narrated) raising the Hadeeth to the Prophetsaww having said: ‘Frequent combing of the head removes the illness (fever), and brings the livelihood, and increases in the copulation’.23

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َِراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ْنِ َعْبدِاللهِبْ ِنِالُْمغ َريةِ َع ْنِأَِِبِا ْْلَ َس ِنِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِِفِقَ ْولِاللهِ َعَّزَِوِ َجِ َّلِ ُخُذواِزينَتَ ُك ْمِعْنَد ُِك ِّلِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ٍ َم ْسجدِقَاَلِم ْنِذَل َكِالتََّم ُّش ُطِعْنَدُِك ِّلِ َصَالةِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Abdullah Bin Al Mugheira,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassanasws regarding the Words of Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic O Children of Adam! Take to your adornments at every Masjid [7:31]. Heasws said: ‘From that is the combing at every Prayer’.24

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْنُُِمََّمدِبْنِ َخالدِعَ ْنِنُوِحِبْنِ ُشعَْيثِعَنِابْنَِميَّاٍحِعَ ْنِيُونُ َسِِ َعَّم ْنِأَ ْخبَ َرهُِ َع ْنِأَِبِا ْْلَ َسنِ)ِصلواتِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ اهللِعليهِ(ِقَاَلِإذَاِ َسَّرْح َ َِرأْ َس َكَِوِْلْيَتَ َكِفَأَمَّرِالُْم ْش َطِ َعلَىِ َصْدرَكِفَإنَّهُِيَْذَه ُثِباْْلَِّمَِوِالَْوبَاءِ.

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Nuh Bin Shuayb, from Ibn Mayyah, from Yunus, from the one who informed him,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassanasws having said: ‘Whenever you comb your head and your beard, then wipe the comb upon your chest for it removes the worries and the illness (fever)’.25

ِ ِ ِ ِّ َعْنهُِعَ ْنِأَبيهِقَاَلَِكثْ َرةُِالتََّم ُّشطِت َُقل ُلِالْبَ ْلغَ َمِ.

From him, from his father,

‘Heasws said: ‘Frequent combing reduces the phlegm’.26

Wash/Rinse head with water after cutting hair:

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ٍ أَ ْْحَُدِبْ ُنِإْدري َسَِوُُِمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْنِأَ ْْحََدِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْنِا ْْلَ َسنِ َع ْنِِ َع ْمروِبْنِ َسعيدِ َع ْنُِم َصِّد ِبْنِ َصَدقَةَِ َع ْنِ َعَّمارِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ ِّ ْ َِّ ال َّسابَاط ِّيِ َع ْنِأَِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِالَّرُج ُلِي َْقر ُضِم ْنِ َشْعرهِبأَ ْسنَانهِأَََِيْ َس ُحهُِبِالَْماءِقَ ْب َلِأَْنِيُ َصل َيِقَاَلََِلِبَأ َسِإّنَاِ ِ ِ ِ ذَل َكِِِفِِا ْْلَديدِ.

Ahmad Bin Idrees, and Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Ahmad, from Ahmad Bin Al Hassan, from Amro Bin Saeed, from Musaddaq Bin Sadaqa, from Ammar Al Sabaty, from

Abu Abd Allahasws said: ‘The man cuts his hair with his teeth, should he wipe it with the water before he prays Salaat?’ Heasws said: ‘There is no problem. But rather, that is regarding (cutting it with) the iron’.27

ِ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنِ َسْهِلِبْ ِنِزيَادِ َع ْنِإ َْسَاعي َلِبْ ِنِمْهَرا َنِقَاَل َِكتَْب ُ ِإََلِالِّر َضاِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِأَ ْسأَلُهُِ َع ْنِ َحِّدِالَْوْجهِفَ َكتَ َثِم ْنِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ أََّولِال َّشْعرِإََلِآخرِالَْوْجهَِوَِكَذل َكِا ْْلَبينَ ْنيِ.

Ali Bin Muhammad, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ismail Bin Mihran who said,

‘I wrote to Al-Rezaasws asking himasws about the extent of the face (to be washed for the Ablution (Wudhu)). So heasws wrote: ‘From the beginning of the hair up to the end of the face, and like that are the two brows’.28

ِ َِّ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِيََْيَِرفَ َعهُِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِِفِالذيَِِيْض ُثَِرأْ َسهُِبا ْْلنَّاءُِمثَِّي َْبُدوِلَهُِِفِالُْو ُضوءِقَاَلََِلَِجيُوُزِ َحََّّتِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ يُصي َثِبَ َشَرةََِرأْسهِبالَْماءِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya,

(It has been narrated) raising it from Abu Abd Allahasws regarding the one who dyes his head with the henna, then it becomes inevitable for him with regards to the Ablution (Wudhu). Heasws said: ‘He is not allowed until he pours in the hair of his head with the water’ (attached to his ).29

Grey Hair and Cutting/plucking it:

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َوِِبََذاِاْإل ْسنَادِقَاَلِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِأََّوُلَِم ْنِ َشا َبِإبْ َراهي ُمِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِفَ َقاَلِيَاَِر ِّبَِماَِهَذاِفَ َقاَلِنُوٌرَِوِتَ ْوقريٌِقَاَلَِِر ِّبِزْدِنِ ِ مْنهُِ.

And by this chain,

‘Heasws said: ‘The first one to be grey-haired was Ibrahimas. Heas said: ‘O Lordazwj! What is this?’ So Heazwj Said: “A radiance and a reverence”. Heas said: ‘Lordazwj! Increase for meas, from it’.30

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللَّهِ َع ْنِأَِِبِأَيُّو َبِالَْمديِِِّنِعَ ْنِ ُسلَْيَما َنِا ْْلَْعَفِِر ِّيِ َع ِنِالِّر َضاِ َع ْنِآبَائهِ)ِعليهمِالسالمِ(ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ قَاَلِال َّشيْ ُثِِفُِمَقَّدمِالَّرأْ ِسَُِيٌْنَِوِِفِالَْعار َضْنيِ َس َخاءٌَِوِِفِالذَوائثِ َش َجا َعةٌَِوِِفِالَْقَفاِ ُشِْؤٌمِ.

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah, from Abu Ayoub Al Madainy, from Suleyman Al Ja’fary,

(It has been narrated) from Al-Rezaasws, from hisasws forefathersasws having said: ‘The grey hair in the front part of the head is a Blessing, and in the two sides is generosity, and in the top is courage, and in the back is inauspiciousness’.31

ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ٍ ِ َِّ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ِنِا ْْلَ َس ِنِبْ ِنِ َعلِ ٍّيِالَْو َّشاءِعَ ْنِ َعْبدِاللهِبْ ِنِسنَانِ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلََِلِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ ِِ بَأْ َسِِبَِّزِال َّشَمطَِوِن َْتفهَِوِ َجُّزهُِأَ َح ُّثِإَيلَِّم ْنِن َْتفهِ.

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Hassan Bin Ali Al Washa, from Abdullah Bin Sinan, from

Abu Abdullahasws has said: ‘There is no problem with cutting the grey hair and plucking it, but cutting it is more beloved to me than plucking it’.32

ٍ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِّ ِ َعْنهُِعَ ِنِابْ ِنِفَ َّضالِ َعَّم ْنِذََكَرهُِعَ ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِصلواتِاهللِعليهِ(ِقَاَلََِلِبَأْ َسِِبَِّزِال َّشَمطَِوِن َتْفهِم َنِالل ْحيَةِ.

From him, from Ibn Fazzal, from the one who mentioned it,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullahasws having said: ‘There is no problem with cutting the grey hair and plucking it from the beard’.33

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِعَ ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّعَ ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِأََّنِِأَمريَِالُْمْؤمن َنيِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ( َِكا َنََِلِ ِ ِ ي ََرىِِبَِّزِال َّشْيثِبَأْساًَِوِيَ ْكَرهُِن َِْت َفهُِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullahasws that Amir Al-Momineenasws did not view the cutting of the grey hairs as a problem, and disliked plucking it’.34

Plucking the hair from the nose

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِيََْيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِعي َسىِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِ َْحَْزةَِاْْلَ ْشعَر ِّيَِرفَ َعهُِقَاَلِقَِاَلِأَبُوِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِأَ ْخُذِال َّشْعرِ ِ ِ م َنِاْْلَنْفَُِيَ ِّس ُنِالَْوْجهَِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Muhammad Bin Hamza Al Ashary, raising it, said,

‘Abu Abd Allahasws said: ‘Plucking the hair from the nose beautifies the face’.35

Burying the hair and the nails

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ٍ ِِ ِ ِ ِ ِ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِ َع ْنِ َسْهِلِبْ ِنِزيَادِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِفَ َّضالِعَ ْنِب َْع ِضِأَ ْص َحابهِ َع ْنِأَِِب َِكْهَم ٍسِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللَّهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِِفِقَ ْولِ َِّ ِ ِ ُّ ِ اللهِ َعَّزَِوِ َجلَِّأَِ َملََِْْنعَِلِاْْلَْر َضِكفاتاًِأَ ْحياءًَِوِأَْمواتاًِقَاَلَِدفْ ُنِال َّشْعرَِوِالاُفرِ.

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ibn Fazzal, from one of his companions, from Abu Kahmas,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws regarding the Words of Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Did We not Make the earth like a receptacle [77:25] (For) the living and the dead? [77:26]. Heasws said: Burying of the hair and the nails’.36

Removal of (unwanted) Hair:

َِّ ِ ِ َّ ِ َوِقَاَلَِرُسوُلِاللهِصِا ْحلُقواِ َشْعَرِالْبَطْ ِنِللذَكرَِوِاْْلُنْ ثَى The Rasool Allahsaww said that you shave the abdomen hair, it is (same for) male or the female.37

ِ َِّ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َعْنهُِ َع ْنِعَْبدِاللهِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِالنَّهيك ِّيِ َع ْنِإبْ َراهي َمِبْ ِنِعَْبدِا ْْلَميدِقَاَلِ ََسْع ُ ِأَبَاِا ْْلَ َسِ ِنِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِي َُقوُلِأَلُْقواِعَْن ُك ُمِال َّشْعَرِِ ِ فَإنَّهَُُِيَ ِّس ُنِ.

From him, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al Naheyki, from Ibrahim Bin Abdul Hameed who said,

‘I heard Abu Al-Hassanasws saying: ‘Cast off the hair from yourselves for it beautifies’.38

How Frequently One should remove hair (unwanted):

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ َِّ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِعَ ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِِقَاَلَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َم ْن َِكا َنِي ُْؤم ُنِباللهَِوِالْيَ ْومِاْْلخرِفََالِي َْت ُرْكِ َعان َتَهُِفَ ْو َ ِأَِْربَع َنيِي َْوماًَِوََِلََِي ُّلَِلْمَرأَةِت ُْؤم ُنِباللهَِوِالْيَ ْومِاْْلخرِأَْنِتََد َعِذَل َكِمْن َهاِ ِ فَ ْو َ ِع ْشِري َنِي َْوماًِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, form his father, from Al Nowfaly,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘The one who was a believer in Allahazwj and the Last Day, so he should not leave his for more than forty (40) days, nor is it Permissible for a woman who believes in Allahazwj and the Last Day that she should leave that from her for more than twenty (20) days’.39

ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ٍِ ِ َِّ ِ أَ ْْحَُدِبْ ُنُُِمََّمدِ َع ِنِالَْقاسمِبْ ِنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِ َجِّدهِا ْْلَ َس ِنِبْ ِنَِراشدِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنُِم ْسلمِعَ ْنِأَِِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقَاَلِأَمريُِ ِِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ الُْمْؤمن َنيِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِأُح ُّثِللْ ُمْؤمنِأَْنِيَطل َيِِفُِك ِّلِ ََخْ َسةَِ َع َشَرِي َْوماًِ.

Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Qasim Bin Yahya, from his grandfather Al Hassan Bin Rashid, from Muhammad Bin Muslim, from

Abu Abd Allahasws says that ‘Amir Al-Momineenasws said: ‘Iasws would love it for the Believer if he were to wax (to remove unwanted hair) during every fifteen days’.40

The Armpit

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ َِّ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِعَ ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِِقَاَلَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ََلِيُطَِّولَ َّنِأَ َحُدُك ْمِ َشْعَرِإبْطهِفَإ َّنِال َّشْيطَا َنِي َتَّخُذهََُِمْبَأًِليَ ْستَرتَِبهِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘Not one of you should prolong the hair of his armpits for the Satanla would take it as a hide-out to hide with by it’.41

Plucking or cutting?

ٍ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِفَ َّضالِعَ ْنِ َعل ِّيِبْ ِنِعُْقبَةَِ َع ْنِأَِِب َِكْهَم ٍسِقَاَلِقَاَلِأَبُوِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِن َْت ُفِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ اِْإلبْطِيُ ْضع ُفِالَْمْنكبَ ْنيَِوَِكا َنِأَبُوِ َعْبدِاللَّهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِيَطْليِإبْطَهُِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Fazzal, from Ali Bin Uqba, from Abu Kahmasy who said,

‘Abu Abd Allahasws said: ‘Plucking the armpits weakens the shoulders’, and Abu Abd Allahasws used to wax hisasws armpits’.42

ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ َِّ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِ َعل ٍّيِ َع ْنِ َسْعَدا َنِقَاَل ُِكْن ُ َِم َعِأَِِبِبَصريِِفِا ْْلََّمامِفَ َرأَيْ ُ ِأَبَاِ َعْبدِاللهِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ )ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِيَطْليِإبْطَهُِفَأَ ْخبَ ْر ُتِبَذل َكِأَبَاِبَصريِفَ َقاَلِلَهُِ ُجعلْ ُ ِفَداَكِأََُّيَاِأَفْ َض ُلِن َْت ُفِاْإلبْطِِأَْوِ َحْلُقهُِفَ َقاَلِيَاِأَبَاُُِمََّمدِإ َّنِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ن َْت َفِاِْإلبْطِيُوهيِأَْوِيُ ْضع ُفِا ْحلْقهُِ.

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Abu Abd Allah, from Muhammad Bin Ali, from Sa’dan who said,

‘I was with Abu Baseer in the bathhouse, so I saw Abu Abd Allahasws waxing hisasws armpits, so I informed Abu Baseer of that, so he said to himasws, ‘May I be sacrificed for youasws!

Which is preferable, plucking the armpit or shaving it?’ So heasws said: ‘O Abu Muhammad! Plucking the armpit frails or weakens (the shoulders). Shave it’.43

Plucking or Waxing?

ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ب َْع ُضِأَ ْص َحابنَاِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِ ُْجُْهورِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِالَْقاسمِ َع ْنِعَْبدِاللَّهِبْ ِنِأَِِبِي َْعُفورِقَاَل ُِكنَّاِبالَْمدينَةِفََال َحاِنُِزَراَرةُِِفِن َْتفِاِْإلبْطَِوِ ِِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ َِّ َحْلقهِفَ ُقْل ُ ِِ َحلُْقهُِأَفْ َض ُلَِوِقَاَلُِزَراَرةُِن َْت ُفهُِأَفْ َضلُِفَا ْستَأْذَنَّاِ َعلَىِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِفَأَذ َنِلَِنَاَِوُِهَوِِفِا ْْلََّمامِيَطليَِوِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ َّ ِ ِ قَدِاطلَىِإبْطَيْهِفَ ُقْل ُ ِلُزَراَرةَِيَ ْكفي َكِقَاَلََِلِلَعَلهُِفَ َع َلَِهَذاِلَِماََِلَِجيُوُزِيلِأَْنِأَفْ َعلَهُِ

One of our companions, from Ibn Jamhour, from Muhammad Bin Al Qasim, from Abdullah Bin Abu Yafour who said,

‘We were in Al-Medina, so Zurara disputed with me regarding plucking of the armpit and shaving it’. So I said, ‘Shaving it is better’, and Zurara said, plucking it is better’. So I sought permission for us to see Abu Abd Allahasws, so heasws permitted us, and heasws was in the bathhouse having waxed, and heasws had waxed hisasws armpits. So I said to Zurara, ‘Does it suffice you?’ He said, ‘No, maybe this deed is for himasws, and it may not be allowed for me that I should do it’.

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ فَ َقاَلِفيَماِأَنْ تَُماِفَ ُقْل ُ ِإ َّنُِزَراَرةَََِل َحاِنِِفِن َْتفِاْإلبْطَِوِ َحْلقهِقُ لْ ُ ِ َحْلُقهُِأَفْ َضلَُِوِقَاَلُِزَراَرةُِن َْت ُفهُِأَفْ َض ُلِفَ َقاَلِأَ َصْب َ ِال ُّسنَّةََِوِ ِ ِِ ِ ِِ أَ ْخطَأََهاُِزَراَرةُِ َحلُْقهُِأَفْ َض ُلِم ْنِن َتْفهَِوِطَْليُهُِأَفْ َض ُلِم ْنِ َحْلقهِ So heasws said: ‘In what (discussion) are you two?’ So I said, ‘Zurara is disputing with me regarding plucking the armpit and shaving it. I said shaving is better, and Zurara said plucking is better’. So heasws said: ‘You have hit the Sunnah and Zurara has erred. Shaving it is better than plucking it, and waxing it is better than shaving it’.

َِّ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ُمثَِّقَاَلِلَنَاِاطليَاِفَ ُقْلنَاِفَ َعلْنَاُِمْنُذِ ََالثِفَ َقاَلِأَعيَداِفَإ َّنِاَلطَِّالءَِطَُهوٌرِ. Then heasws said to us: ‘Get the waxing done’. So we said, ‘We did that three days ago’. So heasws said: ‘Repeat it, for the waxing is cleanliness’.44

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِعي َسىِ َع ْنِ َعل ِّيِبْ ِنِا ْْلَ َكمِ َع ْنِ َعل ِّيِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َْحَْزةَِقَاَلَِد َخْل ُ َِم َعِأَِِبِبَصريِا ْْلََّماَمِفَ نَاَْر ُتِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ إََلِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللَّهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَدِاطَّلَىَِوِاطَّلَىِإبْطَيْهِبالنُّوَرةِقَاَلِفَ َخبَّ ْر ُتِأَبَاِبَصريِفَ َقاَلِأَْرشْدِنِإلَْيهِْلَ ْسأَلَهُِ َعنْهُِفَ ُقْل ُ ِقَْدِِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ َّ َرأَيْ تُهُِأَنَاِفَ َقاَلِأَنْ َ ِقَْدَِرأَيْ تَهَُِوِأَنَاِ َملِْأََرهُِأَْرشْدِنِإلَْيهِقَاَلِفَأَْرَشْدتُهُِإلَيْهِفَ َقاَلِلَِهُِ ُجعْل ُ ِفَداَكِأَ ْخبَ َرِنِقَائديِأَنَّ َكِقَدِاطلَْي َ َِوِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ َّ ٍ َّ ٍ َّ طَلَْي َ ِإبْطَْي َكِبالنُّوَرةِقَاَلِن ََع ْمِيَاِأَبَاُُِمََّمدِإ َّنِن َْت َفِاْإلبْطَْنيِيُ ْضع ُفِالْبَ َصَرِاطِلِيَاِأَِبَاُُِمََّمدِقَاَلِفَ َقاَلِاطلَْي ُ ُِمْنُذِأَيَّامِفَ َقاَلِِاطِلِ ِ فَإنَّهُِطَُهوٌرِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Ali Bin Abu Hamza who said,

‘I entered the bathhouse along with Abu Baseer, so we looked at Abu Abd Allahasws had waxed, and heasws had waxed hisasws underarms with Al-Noura. So I informed Abu Baseer, so he said, ‘Guide me to himasws to ask himasws about it’. So I said, ‘I have seen himasws’. So he said, ‘You have seen himasws, and I cannot see himasws’, (as he was blind). Guide me to himasws’. So I guided him to himasws, so he said to himasws, ‘May I be sacrificed for youasws! My guide informed me that youasws have waxed, and waxed yourasws underarms with Al-Noura’. Heasws said: ‘Yes, O Abu Muhammad! Plucking the underarms weakens the vision. Wax, O Abu Muhammad’. So he said, ‘I have waxed a few days beforehand’. So heasws said: ‘Wax, for it is cleaner’.45

The Cure in Cutting hair (unwanted):

ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ َِّ -ُُِمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِيََْيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِعي َسىِ َع ِنِا ْْلَ َس ِنِبْ ِنِعَل ٍّيِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َسلََمةَِعَ ْنُِمَعتِّثِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)عليهِالسالم(ِقَاَلِ ِ الَّدَواءُِأَْرب َعَةٌِال َّسعُو ُطَِوِا ْْل َجاَمةَُِوِالنُّوَرةَُِوِا ْْلُْقنَةُ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Al-Hassan Bin Ali, from Abu Salma, from Mo’tab, who has narrated:

Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘The medical cures are four – The inhalation, and the cupping, and the (Al-Noura), and the enema’.46

Supplication Prior to removing Hair:

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِ َخالدِ َع ْنِأَبيهِعَ ْنُِزَريْقِبْ ِنِالُّزب َْريِ َع ْنِ َسديرِأَنَّهُِ ََس َعِ َعل َّيِبْ َنِا ْْلُ َسْنيِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِ ِ َّ ِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ي َُقوُلَِم ْنِقَاَلِإذَاِاطلَىِبالنُّوَرةِاللُه َّمِطَيِّ ْثَِماِطَُهَرِمِِّنَِوِطَِّهْرَِماِطَا َبِمِِّنَِوِأَبْدلِِْنِِ َشْعِراًِطَاهراًََِلِي َْعصي َكِ

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from Zureyq Bin Al Zubeyr,

(It has been narrated) from Sadeyr who heard Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws saying: ‘The one who says, whenever he waxes with Al-Noura, ‘O Allahazwj! Make good what is clean from me, and Purify what is good from me, and replace for me with clean hair which would not disobey Youazwj.

َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ اللُه َّمِإ ِِّنِتَطََّهْر ُتِابْتغَاءَِ ُسنَّةِالُْمْرَسل َنيَِوِابْتغَاءَِر ْضَوان َكَِوَِمْغِفَرت َكِفَ َحِّرْمِ َشْعريَِوِبَ َشريِ َعلَىِالنَّارَِوِطَِّهْرِ َخْلقيَِوِطَيِّ ْثِ ِ ِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ُخلُقيَِوَِزكِ َعَمليَِوِا ْجَعلِِْنِِمَّْنِي َْلَقاَكِعَلَىِا ْْلَنيفيَّةِال َّس ْم َحةِملةِإبْ َراهي َمِ َخليل َكَِوِدي ِنُُِمََّمدِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِ َحبيب َكِِ

I have cleaned seeking a Sunnah of the Mursil Prophetsas, and seeking Youazwj Pleasure, and Yourazwj Forgiveness, therefore Prohibit my hair and my person upon the Fire, and Purify my creation (body) and Make good my manners, and Purify my deeds, and Make me to be from the ones who would be meeting Youazwj upon the upright, the tolerant of Ibrahimas, Yourazwj Friend, and the Religion of Muhammadsaww, Yourazwj Beloved, and Yourazwj Rasoolsaww, having abided by Yourazwj Laws, a follower of the Sunnah of Yourazwj Prophetsaww, having taken by it an education with the best of Yourazwj Education, and education of Yourazwj Rasoolsaww, and the education of Yourazwj Guardiansasws whom Youazwj Sustained with Yourazwj Education, and Cultivated the Wisdom in theirasws chests, and Made them the educators of Yourazwj Knowledge, may Blessing be upon themasws’.

ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ُّ ِ ِ َّ َّ ِ ٍ ِ ِِ َم ْنِقَاَلِذَل َكِطََّهَرهُِاللهُِم َنِاْْلَْدنَا ِسِِفِالُّدنْ يَاَِوِم َنِالذنُوبَِوِأَبَْدلَهُِ َشْعراًََِلِي َْعصيِاللِهََِوِ َخلَ َقِاللهُِب ُك ِّلِ َشْعَرةِم ْنِ َج َسدهَِملَكاًِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ يُ َسبِّ ُحِلَهُِإََلِأَْنِتَ ُقوَمِال َّسا َعةَُِوِإ َّنِتَ ْسبي َحةًِم ْنِِتَ ْسبيحه ْمِت َْعدُلِبأَلْفِتَ ْسبي َحةِم ْنِتَ ْسبي ِحِأَْهِلِاْْلَْر ِضِ. The one who says that, Allahazwj would Purify him from the filth in the world, and from the sins, and Replace for him with hair which would not disobey Allahazwj, and Allahazwj would Created for every hair from his body, an Angel who would Glorify for him up to the Establishment of the Hour, and that a Glorification from its Glorifications equates with one thousand Glorifications from the Glorifications of the people of the earth’.47

For Women Only:

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِِ ٍ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِا ْْلُ َسْنيِ َع ْنِ َعْبدِالَّرْْحَ ِنِبْ ِنِأَِِبَِهاشمِ َع ْنِ َساملِبْ ِنُِم ْكَرمِ َع ْنِ َسْعدِاْإل ْس َكافِقَاَلِ ُسئ َلِأَبُوِ َجْعَفرِ)ِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ عليهِالسالمِ(ِعَ ِنِالَْقَرامِلِالِِتِتَ َضعَُهاِالنِّ َساءُِِفُِرءُوسه َّنِِيَصْلنَهُِب ُشعُوره َّنِفَ َقاَلََِلِبَأْ َسِ َعلَىِالَْمْرأَةِِبَاِتَ َزي َّنَ ْ ِبهِلَزْوجَهاِ ِ

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Hashim, from Salim Bin Mukram, from Sa’ad Al Iskaf who said,

‘Abu Ja’farasws was asked about the ribbons which the women place in their heads attached to their hairs, so heasws said: ‘There is no problem for the woman with whatever she adorns herself with for her husband’.

َّ َِّ ِ َِّ َِّ قَاَلِفَ ُقْل ُ ِلَهُِب َلَغَنَاِأَنَِرُسوَلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِلََع َنِالَْواصلَةََِوِالَْمْو ُصولَةَِفَ َقاَلِلَْي َسُِهنَاَكِإّنَاِلَعَ َنَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ اهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِالَْواصلَةَِالِِتِتَ ْزِنِِفِ َشبَاِبَاِفَ لََّماَِك َِب ْتِقَاَدتِالنِّ َساءَِإََلِالِّرَجالِفَتلْ َكِالَْواصلَةَُِوِالَِْمْو ُصولَةُِ. ِ He (the narrator) said, ‘So I said to himasws, ‘It has reached us that Rasool-Allahsaww cursed the connector (hair dresser) and the connected (client)’. So heasws said: ‘It is not over there

(what you are thinking it to be). But rather, Rasool-Allahsaww cursed the connector (using the word hair dresser) who used to commit adultery during her youth, so when she grew older, she led the women to the men (for adultery), so that is the connector and the connected (who are cursed)’.48

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْوفَل ِّيِ َع ِنِال َّس ُكوِنِِّ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِإ َّنِأَم َريِِالُْمْؤمن َنيِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِن ََهىِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َع ِنِالَْقنَاِزِعَِوِالُْق َصصَِوِن َْقشِا ْخل َضابِعَلَىِالَّرا َحةَِوِقَاَلِإّنَاَِهلَ َكِ ْ ِن َساءُِبَِنِإ ْسَرائي َلِم ْنِقبَِلِالُْق َصصَِوِن َْقشِا ْخل َضابِ. ِ

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny, from,

Abu Abd Allahasws has says that Amir Al-Momineenasws forbade from the ( of) the humping (their hairs in raised portions at different parts of the head), and (leaving part of the) hair upon the foreheads, and drawings of dye upon the palms, and said: ‘But rather, the women of the Children of Israel were destroyed from the reason of the (hairstyles of) hair upon the foreheads and the drawings of the dyes’.49

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ َِّ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِعَ ْنِ َسْهِلِبْ ِنِزيَادِعَ ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِا ْْلَ َس ِنِبْ ِنِ ََشُّونِ َع ْنِ َعْبدِاللهِبْ ِنِ َعْبدِِالَّرْْحَ ِنِعَ ْنِم ْسَمٍعِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِ َِّ ِ ِ ٍ ِ عليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِقَاَلَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ََِلََِتلَُِّلْمَرأَةِ َحا َض ْ ِأَْنِتَ تَّخَذِقُ َّصةًِأَْوِ ُْجَّةًِ. ِ

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad Bin Al Hassan Bin Shamoun, from Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman, from Misma’a,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abd Allahasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘It is not Permissible for the menstruating woman that she takes (a of) hair upon the forehead or form knots’.50

ٍ ٍ ِ ِ ٍِ ٍ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِيََْيِعَ ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ِنِابْ ِنَُِمْبُوبِعَ ْنِأَِِبِأَيُّو َبِا ْخلََّزازِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنُِم ْسلمِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َجْعَفرِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ا ْْلَائ ُضَِماِب َلَ َغِب َلَلُِالَْماءِم ْنِ َشْعرَهاِأَ ْجَزأََهاِ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahbooub, from Abu Ayoub Al Khazzaz, from Muhammad Bin Muslim,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’farasws having said: ‘The menstruating woman, whatever moisture of the water reaches from her hair, would suffice her’.51

ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ عَّدةٌِم ْنِأَ ْص َحابنَاِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِ َسْهِلِبْ ِنِالْيَ َسِعِ َع ْنِأَبيهِقَاَلِ َسأَلْ ُ ِأَبَاِا ْْلَ َس ِنِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِ َع ِنِالَْمْرأَةِ ِ ِ ِ ْ ِِ ََّتْتَض ُثَِوِه َيِ َحائ ٌضِقَاَلََِلِبَأ َسِبهِ. A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Muhammad Bin Sahl Bin Al Yas’a, from his father who said,

‘I asked Abu Al-Hassanasws about the woman dyeing (her hair) and she is menstruating. Heasws said: ‘There is no problem with it’.52

ٍ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ أَ ْْحَُدِبْ ُنُُِمََّمدِ َع ِنِا ْْلُ َسْنيِبْ ِنِ َسعيدِ َع ِنِالنَّ ْضرِبْ ِنِ ُسَويْدِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َْحَْزةَِقَاَلِقُ ْل ُ ِْلَِِبِإبْ َراهي َمِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ََِّتْتَض ُثِ ِ ِ الَْمْرأَةَُِوِه َيِطَام ٌ ِقَاَلِن ََع ْمِ. Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Husayn Bin Saeed, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Muhammad Bin Abu Hamza who said,

‘I said to Abu Ibrahimasws (7th Imamasws), ‘Can the woman dye (her hair) and she is menstruating?’ Heasws said: ‘Yes’.53

ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِ َع ْنِأَ ْْحََدِبْ ِنُُِمََّمدِ َع ْنِ َعل ِّيِبْ ِنِالنُّ ْعَمانِ َع ْنِ َاب ِبْ ِنِأَِِبِ َسعيدِقَاَلِ ُسئ َلِأَبُوِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِ َع ِنِالنِّ َساءِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َْجيَعْل َنِِفُِرءُوسه َّنِالَْقَرام َلِقَاَلِيَ ْصلُ ُحِال ُّصو ُفَِوَِما َِكا َنِم ْنِ َشْعرِاْمَرأَةِن َْفسَهاَِو َِكرهَِلْلَمِْرأَةِأَْنََِْتعَ َلِالَْقَرام َلِم ِْنِ َشْعرِ َغْريَهاِفَإ ْنِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ ِ َو َصلَ ْ ِ َشْعَرَهاِب ُصْوفِأَْوِب َشْعرِن َْفسَهاِفََالِيَ ُضُّرَهاِ. ِ

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Noman, from Sabit Bin Abu Saeed who said,

‘Abu Abd Allahasws was asked about the women who were making loops and knots in their heads. Heasws said: ‘The wool is correct and whatever was from the hair of the woman herself, and it is dislike for the woman that she makes the loops from the hair of someone else. So if she were to join her hair with wool, or with her own hair, so it is not harmful’.54

ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِِ ٍ ٍ ِ ِ ٍ ُُمََّمُدِبْ ُنََِْيََيِعَ ْنُُِمََّمدِبْ ِنِا ْْلُ َسْنيِ َع ْنِ َعْبدِالَّرْْحَ ِنِبْ ِنِأَِِبَِهاشمِ َع ْنِ َساملِبْ ِنُِم ْكَرمِ َع ْنِ َسْعدِاْإل ْس َكافِ َع ْنِأَِِبِ َجْعَفرِ)ِعليهِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ ِِ ِ ِ السالمِ(ِقَاَلِ ُسئ َلِ َع ِنِالَْقَِرامِلِالِتِتَ ْصنَ عَُهاِالنِّ َساءُِِفُِرءُوسه َّنِيَصلْنَهُِب ُشعُوره َّنِفَ َقاَلََِلِبَأْ َسِ َعلَىِالَْمْرأَةِِبَاِتَ َِزي َّنَ ْ ِبهِلَزْوجَهاِ ِ

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Hashim, from Salim Bin Mukram, from Sa’ad Al Iskaf,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’farasws, said, ‘Heasws was asked about the (hairstyle of) the loops which the women were making in their heads, joining with their own hair. So heasws said: ‘There is no problem upon the woman with whatever she adorns herself with for her husband’.

َّ َِّ ِ َِّ َِّ قَاَلِفَ ُقْل ُ ِب َلَغَنَاِأَنَِرُسوَلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِعليهِوآلهِ(ِلََع َنِالَْواصلَةََِوِالَْمْو ُصولَةَِفَ َقاَلِلَْي َسُِهِنَاَكِإّنَاِلََع َنَِرُسوُلِاللهِ)ِصلىِاهللِ ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ عليهِوآلهِ(ِالَْواصلَةََِوِالَْمْو ُصولَةَِالِِتِت َْزِنِِفِ َشبَاِبَاِفَ لََّماَِكِبَ ْتِقَاَدتِالنِّ َساءَِإََلِالِّرَجالِفَتْل َكِالَْواصلَةَُِوِالَْمْو ُصولَةُِ. He (the narrator) said, ‘I said, ‘It has reached us that Rasool-Allahsaww cursed the joiner and the joined’. So heasws said: ‘(Its meaning is) not over there. But rather, Rasool-Allahsaww

cursed the joiner and the joined who used to commit adultery during her youth, so when she grew older, she guided the women to the men. So that is the joiner and the joined’.55

Washing Head (for Women):

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ ٍ ِ َِّ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِعَ ْنِ َعْبدِاللهِبْ ِنِالُْمغ َريةِ َع ِنِابْ ِنُِم ْس َكا َنِ َع ْنُُِمََّمدِا ْْلَلَِِِِّبِ َع ْنِأَِِبِعَْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِقَاَلََِلِ ِ ِ ِ تَ ْن ُق ُضِالَْمْرأَةُِ َشْعَرَهاِإذَاِا ْغتَ َسلَ ْ ِم َنِِا ْْلَنَابَةِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Abdullah Bin Al Mugheira, from Ibn Muskan, from Muhammad Al Halby, from

Abu Abd Allahasws has said: ‘The woman may not let down her hair when she washes from the sexual impurity’.56

ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ٍ ِ ِ َِّ ِ ِ َعل ُّيِبْ ُنِإبْ َراهي َمِ َع ْنِأَبيهِ َع ِنِابْ ِنِأَِِبِعَُمْريِ َع ْنِ َْجيٍلِقَاَلِ َسأَلْ ُ ِأَبَاِ َعْبدِاللهِ)ِعليهِالسالمِ(ِ َعَّماِتَِ ْصنَ ُعِالنِّ َساءُِِفِال َّشْعرَِوِ ِ ِِ ِ َِّ ِ ٍ ِ ِ الُْقُرونِفَ َقاَلِ َملِْتَ ُك ْنَِهذهِالْم ْشطَةُِإّنَاُِك َّنَِْجيَمْعنَهُُِمثََِّو َص َفِأَِْرب ََعةَِأَْمكنَةُِمثَِّقَاَلِي ُبَالْغ َنِِفِالْغَ ْسِلِ.

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Jameel who said,

‘I asked Abu Abd Allahasws about what the woman should do regarding the hair and the plaits (curls). So heasws said: ‘She did not happened to have combed these. But rather she happened to have gathered it’. Then heasws described four possibilities, then said: ‘They should put more effort in the washing’.57

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, and Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, altogether from Abdullah Bin Yahya Al Kahily who said,

‘I said to Abu Abd Allahasws, ‘The women today are innovating combings (of the hair). One of them deliberates to the of wool, combing it by plaiting with the hair. Then she applies it with the perfume, then make a thin cloth to be upon it. Then she ties it with a pin upon her head. Then she is hit by the sexual impurity’. So heasws said: ‘The former women, rather, were combing their front hair. So when she has to wash (from the sexual impurity), instruct

ِ قَاَلِقُ ْل ُ ِفَا ْْلَائ ُضِقَاَلِتَ ْن ُق ُضِالَْم ْش َطِن َْقضاًِ. He (the narrator) said, ‘I said, ‘So (what about) the menstruating woman?’ Heasws said: ‘She should undo for the combing, with an undoing’.58
