As far as I am aware the only correspondence course now available to members of the Foreign Service is the course Emergency Management of the National Economy issued by the Industrial College of the Armed Forces which was offered last fall. Yet there must be many more such courses that would offer valuable background training to present and prospective officers. To my personal knowledge the Department of the Navy offers two courses in International Law and one in Founda¬ tions of National Power. The Army, through the Command and General Staff College and the Air Force through the Air University must offer other courses of general interest and benefit to members of the Foreign Service. I believe that the Institute using these and other sources of prepared courses could build up a library of from 30 to 50 corre¬ spondence courses which could be offered free or at a nominal cost. Such a service, aside from its benefit to the individual, has at least four advantages. First, it should require no new facilities nor should it require much additional staff to ad¬ minister it. Second, this type of training, admittedly limited, requires no orders, absence from one’s post, travel or per diem costs. Social life and occupational activities of the different ethnic groups formed the two main spines of how different the inhabitants’ garments would be. This study developed and demonstrated a step-by-step conceptual framework of narrative analysis. DUNN Extended Forecast Section, U. S. Weather Bureau, Washington. D. C. ABSTRACT The general circulation during August 1955 was characterized by an abnormally contracted circumpolar westerly whirl and an associated northward displacement of the belt of subtropical anticyclones and subtropical easterlies. While this zonal circulation was similar in many respects to thatof the preceding July andled to a pattern of temper- ature anomaly over the United States similar to July's, the rainfall differed tremendously, particularly over the Northeast where flood-producing rains associated with hurricanes Connie and Diane replaced a regime of drought. The differences between July and August are accounted for by westward displacements of the centers of action coupled withmarkedly similar anomalous zonal circulations (i.e., displaced poleward). Theearly onset of the hurricane season is attributed to the premature northward displacement of the subtropical belt of anticyclones. The unprecedented precipitation associated with hurricanes Connie and Diane is believed to be partially related to injection of abnormally moist tropical air from an appreciably warmer than normal sea surface. Turkish literature (Turkish: Türk edebiyatı or Türk yazını) comprises both oral compositions and written texts in the Turkish language, either in its Ottoman form or in less exclusively literary forms, such as that spoken in the Republic of Turkey today. The Ottoman Turkish language, which forms the basis of much of the written corpus, was influenced by Persian and Arabic and used the Ottoman Turkish alphabet. The history of the broader Turkic literature spans a period of nearly 1,300 years. The oldest extant records of written Turkic are the Orhon inscriptions, found in the Orhon River valley in central Mongolia and dating to the 7th century. Subsequent to this period, between the 9th and 11th centuries, there arose among the nomadic Turkic peoples of Central Asia a tradition of oral epics, such as the Book of Dede Korkut of the Oghuz Turks—the linguistic and cultural ancestors of the modern Turkish people—and the Manas epic of the Kyrgyz people. Beginning with the victory of the Seljuks at the Battle of Manzikert in the late 11th century, the Oghuz Turks began to settle in Anatolia, and in addition to the earlier oral traditions there arose a written literary tradition issuing largely—in terms of themes, genres, and styles— from Arabic and Persian literature.

    Harold Elstner Talbott February 4, 1953–August 13, 1955 Portrait by Gardner Cox AROLD ELSTNER TALBOTT was born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 31, 1888. He attended the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and spent two years at Yale HUniversity before returning to his father’s construction company in 1911. He was vice president and general manager of the H. E. Talbott Company of Dayton, in charge of hydroelectric development and industrial construction. He remained there until 1920 and served simultaneously as vice president and general manager of the Dayton Metal Products Company (1914–20). Talbott’s interest in aviation dated from the early days of the Wright brothers. In 1915 he helped build one of the first wind tunnels for aviation experiments in Dayton. In the spring of 1916, Talbott’s father, Colonel Deeds, and Charles Kettering formed the Dayton-Wright Com- pany, a reorganization of the Orville Wright Company. The young Talbott was made president and Orville Wright became vice president and engineer. At the beginning of World War I, the Dayton-Wright Company took over the newly built Delco-Light plant. The expanded plant turned out about four hundred training planes and constructed the two-seat fighter, the DeHaviland–4, later modified to the DeHaviland–9. In October 1918 the plant, which employed twelve thousand people, produced thirty-eight planes per day and manufactured more wartime aircraft overall than any other U.S. plant. In September 1918 Talbott was commissioned a major in the Air Service of the Signal Corps. His assignment as one of a group of officers in charge of aircraft maintenance and repair in France was canceled by the armistice.

Gangsar is a small business and is recognized as a songkok household industry in Lamongan City. Maintaining sustainable quality is considered both a challenge and a weakness to sustain its operations . The research purpose is to identify defects and analyze them to improve the quality of the product. Failure mode and effect analysis and fault tree analysis were used as research methods. This research began with mapping the flow production process to identify the defective product. Once the defective product was identified , the next step was to determine the risk priority number. The mapping failure tree was the next step to detecting fault mode. The results revealed three identified defects, namely the trim with the risk priority number144, the disordered sewing process with RPN 126 and the non-precision cutting fabric with RPN 86. These defects were analyzed using FTA and factors such as human error, bad materials, and broken sewing machines must be eliminated. Improved work facilities and regular training and supervision of the work are considered a best case scenario to maintain product quality.

    PERANCANGAN SONGKOK GURU KABUPATEN TAKALAR Mustakim, Aswar, Nurabdiansyah Fakultas Seni dan Desain Universitas Negeri Makassar [email protected] [email protected] Abstrak Songkok guru merupakan produk anyaman traditional khas Kabupaten Takalar khususnya di desa Bontokassi Kecamatan Galesong Selatan. Permasalahan yang terjadi pada produk tersebut adalah tidak memiliki kemasan pada saat produk dijual/didistribusikan. Hal itulah yang mendasari perancangan kemasan ini, bertujuan untuk menghasilkan kemasan yang berguna bagi pengrajin dan memiliki nilai jual yang lebih dari sebelumnya karna proses pengerjaan produk yang cukup lama dengan penuh ketelitian. Kemasan ini dilandasi dengan konsep maskulin dan nature. Karena maskulin menunjukkan sifat laki-laki (gagah, kekar, lebih berfikir secara logika daripada perasaan) seperti yang kita ketahui bahwa songkok guru ini hanya digunakan oleh pria dewasa diantaranya oleh para bangsawan yang memiliki derajat tinggi. Sedangkan nature artinya alam dimana bahan produk songkok guru yang digunakan dari serat pelepah pohon lontar (dari alam) dan juga nantinya akan menggunakan bahan kemasan dari daun lontar. Dari konsep itu diharapkan penulis dapat menciptakan kemasan yang efektif dan berguna bagi pengrajin. Manfaat perancangan ini yaitu sebagai bentuk strategi yang efektif untuk menambah minat konsumen terhadap produk songkok guru serta memiliki harga jual yang lebih tinggi dari sebelumnya. Selain itu, untuk menjaga kualitas produk pada saat dibeli oleh konsumen dibeli atau pada saat didistribusikan. Kata kunci: songkok guru, tradisional, kemasan. Abstrak Songkok guru is a traditional wicker products typical of Takalar Regency especially in Bontokassi village, South Galesong District. The problem with the product is that it has no packaging when the product is sold / distributed. That's what underlies the design of this packaging, aims to produce useful packaging for craftsmen and has more selling value than before because the process of product long enough with full accuracy.
