Memorandum of Understanding A partnership between Mesa and Woodbury

San Diego Mesa College and Woodbury University agree in principle to jointly renew their 2+3 year architecture program agreement in San Diego with offering the first two years of study and Woodbury University offering the last three years, resulting in a 5 year National Architectural Accrediting Board ( NAAB) accredited Bachelor of Architecture ( B.Arch) degree.

This agreement is effective immediately by and between San Diego Mesa College, a within the San Diego Community College District, whose address is 7250 Mesa College Drive, San Diego CA 92111, and Woodbury University, whose address is 7500 Glenoaks Boulevard, Burbank, CA 91510 and 2212 Main Street, San Diego , CA 92113. Woodbury University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and (WASC) and the NAAB. San Diego Mesa College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The purpose of this partnership is to ensure a seamless transfer from San Diego Mesa College to Woodbury University.

This agreement is subject to the following conditions:

1. Enrollment a. First and second year students in the 2+3 program will enroll in San Diego Mesa College classes. All fees, tuition and state funds associated with these students will accrue to San Diego Mesa College. b. Third, fourth, and fifth year students in the 2+3 program will enroll in Woodbury University and all fees, tuition and funds associated with these students will accrue to Woodbury University. c. Woodbury will also offer the first two years of a five-year NAAB accredited program to students not participating in this 2+3 program.

2. Transfer a. San Diego Mesa College students who choose to participate in the 2+3 year program will automatically transfer to Woodbury University as a third year student, subject to the conditions of this agreement. Students completing the prescribed course of study at San Diego Mesa College who are accepted into the final three years of study at Woodbury University will have satisfied all of the requirements necessary to enter the third year Bachelor of Architecture curriculum (including all of the required general education courses of the first two years) while maintaining a “B” average in architectural design studios (ARCH 170 Architectural Design I, ARCH 172 Architectural Design II , ARCH 175

Advanced Architectural Design I and ARCH 180 Advanced Architectural Design II). b. Woodbury University will accept fully qualified students into the third year of study from other institutions. Students from other institutions not meeting all of the requirements for third year transfer can choose to attend San Diego Mesa College to complete the course work necessary to become fully qualified as third year students.

3. Articulation a. An articulation agreement will be established and updated annually between the two institutions. b. The articulation agreement between the two institutions will require mutual consent before changes to the agreement can be made.

4. Cooperative Learning Experiences a. Woodbury University and San Diego Mesa College will collaborate to provide workshops and create opportunities where co-teaching can occur in an attempt to overlap the programs to create a more seamless transition for the student. This will expose Mesa students to the intensity of advanced studio study and encourage cooperation and collaboration between faculties. b. Woodbury University and San Diego Mesa College will provide access to their respective facilities for joint educational efforts such as lectures, events and workshops like the annual Barrio Scenario Workshop at Woodbury University. c. Woodbury University and San Diego Mesa College will cross-list electives when appropriate.

5. Resource Areas a. Woodbury University is prepared to allow access to San Diego Mesa College 2+3 Architecture students to the computer lab, digital fabrication lab, and wood and metal shop with pre-arranged use by faculty members. This cannot be done on an individual student basis. b. Woodbury University San Diego’s facilities for plotting, printing and digital fabrication will be available to San Diego Mesa College 2+3 Architecture students in the same way, with the same controls and at the same subsidized rates, that they are available to Woodbury University San Diego students.

6. Marketing a. Brochures and other advising materials will be made available by Woodbury University to San Diego Mesa College. b. Woodbury University will attend all scheduled transfer college fairs at San Diego Mesa College.

c. Working with the Mesa Faculty and Administrators regarding a convenient schedule, Woodbury University will hold recruiting sessions at San Diego Mesa College through staffing information tables and making visits to Architecture classes. d. Woodbury University will include the 2+3 program with San Diego Mesa College on its promotional materials and website. e. San Diego Mesa College will include the 2+3 program with Woodbury University on its website .

7. Curriculum Development a. Cooperation and communication between Woodbury University and Mesa College will be institutionalized through regular meetings and written articulation agreements regarding the curriculum of the 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program. b. The faculty in the School of Architecture at Woodbury University, Los Angeles and San Diego are solely responsible for the curriculum development of all its NAAB accredited architecture programs. Because of the special nature of this 2+3 program agreement, an unusual degree of consultation and cooperation between the faculty and staff of the two institutions may be required. Woodbury University will advise San Diego Mesa College in a timely manner when it plans to develop curricular changes in its NAAB accredited B. Arch program. c. To comply with NAAB accreditation requirements, The Woodbury University curriculum offered at the San Diego campus will be fully equivalent to the curriculum offered at the Woodbury University Burbank campus.

8. Terms of agreement a. The agreement will have an initial term of one year extendible in one year increments. b. Either party can terminate this agreement at the end of any one year cycle. c. Students following the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding prior to the termination will maintain benefits until graduation from Woodbury University.
