In June 2016 she joined Marçal, Dorvalino, Semião and thousands of fighters among her people who died in the fight and hope to conquer Terra Sem Males (Land Without Evil). Léia was a mother, teacher and one of the main leaders of the Aty Guasu Guarani and Kaiowá peoples throughout the 21st century. She gave voice to an endless number of reports of violence and violations of indigenous rights involving farmers, the police and governments. She also devoted herself to the fight for the right to education. She took part in the Convention on Indigenous Rights of Mato Grosso do Sul and was one of the founders of the Continental Council of the Guarani Nation (CNNAGUA). Léia will always be alive in the memory of the resistance and certainly will further encourage the affirmation of the rights and projects not only of the Guarani-Kaiowá people, but of all indigenous peoples in Brazil. Mirou o engenheiro, seu rosto redondo de maçãs salientes, traços de algum antepassado indígena, e pressionou uma e outra bochecha do homem com a lâmina do terçado, para espanto geral. Um gesto inaugurador. Situação que merece uma palavra-chave dos índios Araweté da Terra Ipixuna, no médio Xingu, recolhida pelo antropólogo Eduardo Viveiros de Castro:· “Tenotã - Mõ significa “o que segue à frente, o que começa”. Essa palavra designa o termo inicial de uma série: o primogênito de um grupo de irmãos, o pai em relação ao filho, o homem que encabeça uma fila indiana na mata, a família que primeiro sai da aldeia para uma excursão na estação chuvosa. O líder araweté é assim o que começa, não o que comanda; é o que segue na frente, não o que fica no meio. Toda e qualquer empresa coletiva supõe um Tenotã-mõ. Nada começa se não houver alguém em particular que comece. However, many people – driven by different interests – end up having encounters with those populations, and, whether or not intentionally, they also end up experiencing intercultural encounters, which are evaluated by means of reflections on the authenticity of native traditions. From a wide range of possible actors involved in such interethnic en- counters, we come across those who, seeking leisure, may be ultimately di- vided into tourists and travelers (Errington and Gewertz 2004). This article focuses more intensively on some such experiences, and considers the social (ideological) representations associated with the construction of the assess- ments made by those people who encounter Brazilian Indians.

The COVID19 pandemic has more clearly than ever revealed the deep faults in our global economies and societies: both our staggering inequities and our dangerously unbalanced relationship with nature. We have an opportunity to build a green and just recovery. Ensuring global recognition of the tight bond between human rights and environmental health can leverage the sustainable decisions and actions we need to achieve that. This WWF contribution to the Special Rapporteur’s report aims to support that ambition, one we are equally committed to. It includes contributions from multiple offices across the WWF network.1 Responses to the Special Rapporteur’s questions on healthy ecosystems and human rights. Q.1: Please provide examples of ways in which declining biodiversity and degraded ecosystems are already having adverse impacts on human rights. Declining biodiversity and degraded ecosystems have far reaching and diverse impacts on human rights across the world. Nature degradation, declining natural spaces and degradation of water catchment areas greatly impact the right to a clean and healthy environment and the right to clean water ​ ​ (Examples in Annex: Kenya, Australia, Brazil, Argentina). Atualmente a UFSCar conta com 150 estudantes indígenas de várias etnias em seus quatro campi. Assim, a Universidade sofreu um impacto extremamente positivo com as Políticas de Ações Afirmativas, tornando-se um grande polo de diversidade cultural e linguística. O presente artigo apresenta um perfil geral dos estudantes indígenas da UFSCar e um mapeamento das línguas indígenas faladas por esses estudantes. THE INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES AT UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SÃO CARLOS ABSTRACT With an affirmative action program that guarantees one annual vacancy for indigenous candidates in all of undergraduate courses, the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) has become a national reference in the access of Brazilian indigenous people to higher education. Currently UFSCar has 150 indigenous students from various ethnicities at its four campuses. Thus, the university has had an extremely positive impact with affirmative action policies, becoming a major pole of cultural and linguistic diversity.
