Campur Tangan Militer dalam Konflik Internal Partai Demokrasi Indonesia : Implentasi Dwifungsi ABRI Dalam Kehidupan Sosial Politik ( 1976-1998 ). Skripsi. Jakarta: Program Studi Pendidikan Sejarah,Fakultas Ilmu Sosial, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2020. Mini Thesis. Jakarta: Historical Education Studies Program, Faculty of Social Sciences, Jakarta State University, 2020. This research examines the implementation of ABRI’s Dual Function in the form of military interference in the internal conflict of the Indonesian Democratic Party. This research aims to determine the involvement of the military in PDI internal conflict. The presence of ABRI officers in the PDI internal conflict cannot be separated from the concept of ABRI’s dual function. Because of the Dual Function concept, ABRI becomes a dominant power because it succeeded in controlling the Indonesian political stage, including the life of political parties. The research method which used in this study was the historical method consisting of source collection, verification / historical criticism, interpretation and historiography. In the source collection step, author collected the writing source both of primary sources such as archives from newspapers and secondary sources such as books. After the data was collected, it was verified by internal and external criticism. The next step was interpretation of facts for interpreting the various sources that have been verified for its accuracy. At the final step, theauthor wrote in the form of mini thesis. This research is presented in descriptivenarrative with emphasis on military interference in the internal conflict of the Indonesian Democratic Party that occurred in the range of1976 to 1998 described in narrative. The study in this thesis discusses the background of the ABRI’s Dual Function concept, then the beginning of military intervention at the beginning of the establishment of a new order government and how the form of military interference in the internal conflict of the PDI. The result of this research is that the involvement of ABRI members in the PDI internal conflict cannot be separated from the New Order Government commands. In resolving internal PDI conflicts, the government relied heavily on ABRI officers such as Ali Moertopo, Mayor of General Yoga Soegama, Admiral Soedomo to several ABRI officers who were still active in the 1990s. Their initial task was only to mediate for the parties to the conflict. But in reality, this task was used by some ABRI officers as a moment of legitimacy to be directly involved in the internal conflict of the PDI. The presence of ABRI generals around President Soeharto was seen as an additional PDI power that contributed to the PDI's internal conflict. CURRENT DATA ON THE INDONESIAN MILITARY ELITE (Prepared by the Editors) In the past, the editors have periodically prepared lists of officers holding key positions in the Indonesian Armed Forces to keep readers abreast of developments. The present list (updated to early February 1982) follows the format adopted in pre vious listings--namely, the full official organizational structure of the Department of Defense and Security, including all the various agencies under the minister’s supervision; the staff and command hierarchy of the Army down to the Kodam (Ter ritorial Command) level; and the Head of Bakin (State Intelligence Coordination Agency), a post directly subordinate to the President. As in our previous listing (Indonesia, No. 29 [April 1980]), we present some tentative preliminary comments on structural changes in the military hierarchy, and on the "politics of succession." I. Structural Changes In our last listing we discussed changes in the military high command in terms of centralization, Javanization, divisional and service affiliation, and generational stratification. These still seem the most relevant dimensions for any useful struc tural analysis. Centralization. We considered this question in terms of the power and author ity, first of President Suharto himself, and then of Defense Minister Yusuf, vis-S- vis the military hierarchy as a whole. With regard to the President, we commented in early 1980 on the extraordinarily long incumbency of particular key offices by certain trusted confidants, all of whom, by no means accidentally, seem disadvan taged in a succession competition by reason of religious or ethnic background. Over the past two yedrs, none of these men has been displaced.

In Indonesia, for example, the range of activities of government functionaries, the pegawai negeri in local parlance, seems to be un- limited. There are, first of all and certainly most obvious, the large number of people occupying official positions in the various ministries located in the captital city of Djakarta, ranging in each ministry from the authoritative Secretary General to the nearly powerless floor sweepers. There are the territorial administrative authorities, all under the Minister of Interna! Affairs, from provincial Governors down to the village chiefs who are electecl by their fellow villagers but who after their election receive their official appointments from the Govern- ment through their superiors in the administrative hierarchy. These territorial administrative authorities constitute the civil service who are frequently idenitified as memibers of the government bureaucracy par excellence. There are, furthermore, as in many another country, the members of the judiciary, personnel of the medical service, diplomats and consular officials of the foreign service, taxation officials, technicians engaged in the construction and maintenance of public works, employees of state enterprises, research •scientists, and a great number of instruc- tors, ranging from teachers of Kindergarten schools to university professors at the innumerable institutions of education operated by the Government in the service of the youthful sectors of the population.

  • The Partai Nasional Indonesia, 1963
THE PARTAI NASIONAL INDONESIA 1963-1965 J. Eliseo Rocamora Reputations once acquired are hard to shed. The stereotype of the Partai Nasional Indonesia (PNI) as an opportunist, conservative party composed of Javanese prijaji elements remains despite basic changes which occurred within the party in the later years of Guided Democracy. Tljis undifferentiated image of the PNI arose in the early 1950's and, for that time, it represented a fairly accurate, though limited, description. As the party began to change under the impetus of Guided Democracy politics and the push of internal party dynamics, Indonesian and foreign observers either disregarded the party alto gether or tended to seek explanations for these changes in outside factors." Thus, the PNI's "turn to the left," in the 1963 to 1965 period, was termed variously as: an opportunistic response to the increasingly leftist politics of Guided Democracy; the result of strong pressure from President Sukarno; or the work of PKI (Communist Party) infiltration of the party leadership. The fact that Djakarta's political cognoscenti-- journalists and intellectuals--continue to espouse and disseminate this interpreta tion reflects biases born of their own political attitudes and in volvement. A similarly-limited view of the PNI in Western academic literature is in part the result of the paucity of work on the Guided Democracy period and in part a consequence of an excessive concentra tion on a few actors at the center. The generally-accepted framework for analyzing Guided Democracy politics1--a three-sided triangle made up of Sukarno, the Army and the PKI--only explains certain facets of Indonesian politics, that is, the major battles for ideological and institutional predominance.

“What’s the matter with being Indonesian?” A Social Representation Approach to Unravel Indonesian National Identity MSc Social Research Dissertation School of Social and Political Science 2012 – 2013 Exam Number: B029071 Word Count: 14.461 1 Acknowledgement I would like to thank my supervisor, Ross Bond, since this research could not be completed without his invaluable guidance and patience. I sincerely thank the Directorate General of Higher Education (DGHE) Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture for funding my education at the University of Edinburgh. Comments and feedback given by Rahkman Ardi, Reza Wattimena, and Charlotte Olcay have also been a tremendous help. I am also very grateful for the endless love and support given by my parents and brothers that kept me going. Finally, I would like to thank my friends and research participants who have been very helpful during this process. 2 Abstract Having announced its independence in 1945, Indonesia is still “a state in search of a nation.” Consisted of more than 300 ethnic tribes and around 600 local languages and dialects, ruthless religious, ethnic, ideology, region conflicts, and civil war have even been intensified after the New Order regime collapsed in 1998. By using Social Representation theory, online survey research involving 114 Indonesians living in the United Kingdom is used to explore these points; how Indonesian negotiate their ethnic, religious, and national identity, the historical theme and important figures in Indonesia’s history, and the connection between ethnic, religious, and national identity and attitudes towards the New Order. Research findings suggest that national and ethnic identity, as well as ethnic and religious identity, is consensual, while the relation between religious and national identity is emancipated.

Yayasan Kesadaran Berkonstitusi (YLKB) beberapa waktu yang lalu telah menerbitkan buku berisi pemikiran tiga tokoh masyarakat Indonesia, H.M. Sanusi Hardjadinata, M. Natsir, A.H. Nasution bersama-sama mengutarakan per lunya normalisasi kehidupan konstitusional.
