Remember last week we talked about using the gifts and talents God gives each of us, and how we use them in the following categories:

Time

Money

Abilities

Authority A wealthy man was going on a trip and Matthew 25:14 called three of his servants to give them something before he left. He gave each of them different amount of “talents” to take care of while he was gone. These were very valuable! And he Matthew 25:15 gave each man according to his ability. Matthew 25:16 The servant who was given the five talents went and made five more! The servant who was given the two Matthew 25:17 talents doubled his as well! And, the bible says that these first two servants did what they did, ”IMMEDIATELY!”

They felt the responsibility of their assignment and went to work without delay!

· They did their work promptly! · They did their work with perseverance! · They did their work with success! · They were ready to give an account to their master! But the servant with the one Matthew 25:18 talent was afraid and buried his!

The master returned and called them in to make account of what they did! Matthew 25:19 The servant who was given the five talents completely doubled his talents. Matthew 25:20 They all really belonged to the master! This is what we want to hear Jesus say to us when we stand before Him!

This is the Kingdom of ! The second man also showed how he had Matthew 25:22 doubled his master’s talents entrusted to him! Same results!

Matthew 25:23

This, again is the Kingdom of Heaven! Matthew 25:24,25

The third servant showed him that he played it safe and did not do anything with his talent and hid it in the ground! Matthew 25:26 The servant didn’t get it! His master gave him the opportunity to make an increase for his master which would have given him a great reward and he totally blew it! Matthew 25:28 The master called that last servant wicked and lazy and took his talent and gave it to the first servant who doubled his five! So because of their actions, the first two servants received the following:

* Praise from their master!

* Promise of a future blessing!

* Glory, “the joy of your lord!”

In this , the master is representing Jesus Christ and you and I are the servants. Do you remember which servant best describe you? And finally, the fate of the wicked lazy servant was revealed! . . Heaven or ! Kids, every Sunday morning in ”Big Church,” Pastor Jeff has all the people in the service read a Psalm together with him before preaching. So let’s do that as well before we get into the lesson. If you have your Bible, you and your parents can read Psalm 27:1-6 and see how it applies to today’s lesson. If you don’t have a Bible, you can read the following: Psalm 27:1-6 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. 4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. Memory Verse:

II Corinthians 6:2 “Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.” Memory Verse: II Corinthians 6:2 “Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.” RIGHT NOW!

Make Jesus your IT’S YOUR Lord and Saviour! CHOICE! II Corinthians 6:2 “Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.” This Week’s Lesson: of Christ – Part 12 “The Rich Man And Lazarus” Lesson Scriptures: :19-31 Welcome to the classroom again, boys and girls!

Today we will be studying part 12 of our series on the ! We will be studying about the importance of NOT TRUSTING IN POSSESSIONS, IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS!

We’ll explain what that means as we get into the lesson. Until then, open your to Luke 16:19-31.

Once you have read the entire passage, we will begin! AS YOU GO THROUGH THE LESSON, YOU WILL SEE A SERIES OF PICTURES WITH A SCRIPTURE VERSE AND A QUESTION.

FIRST, READ THE VERSE, STUDY THE PICTURE THEN ANSWER THE QUESTION. Luke 16:21 What did the dogs do to Lazarus? THANK YOU PARENTS BEFORE YOU START, PRAY FOR GOING THROUGH AND ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT THIS WITH YOUR CHILD TO OPEN YOUR EYES AND IN CASE THEY HAVE HELP YOU UNDERSTAND QUESTIONS. THE MEANING!

Kids, make sure you are not distracted as you start today’s lesson, so please turn off the TV, get your favorite drink and just follow along! Isn’t it great to learn the Bible! Let’s dig in! Again, Jesus will be telling this parable to the Luke 16:14 , who were “lovers of money.” How were they reacting to Jesus? Remember one of our previous lessons on the Pharisee and the Publican (Tax Collecter), how proud the Pharisee was and thought he was so much better than anyone else because of who he was and what he did (:11) ? These were the same Pharisees who were listening to Jesus here in our story today! And they were mocking him because they just heard Him tell His disciples that you cannot serve God and money! (Luke 16:13) They are REALLY not going to like what He is about to tell them now! Luke 16:19 This is one of the principal characters in this parable. What does this verse say about him? Purple and fine linen was worn by royalty and Those who had a LOT of money and possessions!

He has one verse that describes him pretty well. Did you notice that nothing is said about his devotion to God? Luke 16:20 Who was this poor man and where is he? Jesus did not present this story as a parable, and in no other parable did Jesus actually name an individual (as the poor man is here named). We have every reason to believe that Jesus gave us an actual case history, one He knew from His eternal perspective! Luke 16:21

What was Lazarus hoping to eat?

With all the food this rich man had, why do you think he would not even spare a few crumbs for Lazarus?

Boys and girls, the rich man in this story had a horribly selfish heart! Examine yourselves to make sure you are not like him! Food was eaten with the hands and, in very wealthy houses, the hands were cleaned by wiping them on hunks of bread, which were then thrown away. This is most likely what Lazarus was waiting for. Kids, what does verse 21 say about the dogs? Eeuuhh! Luke 16:22 What does the bible say happened here?

The poor beggar, Lazarus probably did not even have a funeral on earth, but what an honor he received by having his carried by to ’s bosom! What does that mean? “ABRAHAM’S BOSOM” is a Jewish idiom, meaning

Jesus uses it here and also spoke of as a place where “many” would “come from the east and west” and “sit down with Abraham” at the feast of “the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 8:11; :15). THIS IS WHERE ALL THOSE WHO TRUSTED IN GOD AND DIED BEFORE JESUS ROSE FROM THE GRAVE WENT. THIS IS A GOOD THING!

Luke 23:43 ”Paradise” was the same place as Abraham’s bosom. This is where Jesus promised the thief who was crucified with Him, that they would be together that same day . . . After they died! And today, if You were to die before Jesus comes back to get the believers in the Rapture, you too, would be instantly with the Lord , but in heaven . . . II Corinthians 5:6-8 The rich man, unlike Lazarus, more than likely had a lavish funeral and burial!

At least, his BODY did! But what about his SOUL? Luke 16:23

His soul was in Hades! And he will be there in torment until he stands before God at the Great White Throne Judgment! Revelation 20:11-15 All that to say that “Hades” is not “Hell.” “Hades“ is the Greek word for the Hebrew word “,” which means “ The place of the dead.”

Obviously, Hades was a place of rest for some who were there, while others suffered tremendously while tormented with fire and heat!

Again, it’s all about the CHOICES you make here on earth! The rich man could see Lazarus and Abraham. What two things Luke 16:24 did he ask of Abraham? Really? All he asked for was a finger tip of water for his tongue? Wow! Don’t you think he would have asked for help to get out of there, or at least for a huge, ice cold drink? Luke 16:25 What was Abraham’s response to him? Uh-oh! Seems like the rich man is not getting much sympathy from Abraham! Remember kids . . . It’s all about CHOICES! Luke 16:26 What was another reason Abraham said he could not help the rich man? NO CROSSING OVER! Once you’re there, there are no second chances! Luke 16:27,28 Wow! This place must really be Luke 16:28 bad for this man to think about someone other than himself! Yo u k no w, k i d s, I think the rich man finally got it!

And even though it was too late for him, it was so bad that he was scared for his brothers!

And the sad thing is, this is not the worse for him. He will later be thrown into the ! Revelation 20:11-15 Luke 16:29 What was Abraham’s reply? “Moses and the prophets” was referring to the Old Testament scriptures. In other words, he was telling the rich man that his brothers could read the scriptures and know what to do to avoid ending up where he was! Gosh, kids! I’ll bet the rich man did some serious thinking and came to the conclusion that Abraham was right! Even if someone had come back from the grave and told him (the rich man) to repent, he would have laughed and wondered what he had to repent from because he was wealthy! And don’t forget, Jesus did rise from the dead; yet many did not believe then. Additionally, a man named Lazarus also came back from the dead (:38-44) and the religious leaders did not believe him; they tried to kill him (:9-10).

In one way the rich man of Jesus’ story was very different than the religious leaders, the Pharisees. He lived a life of gourmet excess and indulgence, and the Pharisees were rigid and disciplined and super self- controlled.

KEEP READING Yet they shared this with the rich man: They cared nothing for the needy around them, and despised them with neglect. And in case you missed it, all those people who are in Hades right now can feel pain, sense thirst, sense heat, can remember their loved ones, and are experiencing the worst kind of hopelessness ever! KEEP TALKING TO YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS ABOUT JESUS! Matthew 19:23,24

The rich man wasn’t lost because he was rich. He was lost because he did not listen to the law and the prophets. Many will also be lost for the same reason. Although one man was rich and the other man was poor, according to Romans 3:23, what did the two men have in common?

They were both “SINNERS”

And according to Romans 6:23, The penalty for sin is “DEATH” (SPIRITUALLY) But, according to Romans 5:8, what did Jesus do to pay our penalty? “DIED FOR US” And in our parable today, Lazarus had faith in God, and like Abraham, it was counted unto him as righteousness!

But the rich man did not have have faith in God and did not serve Him! Following are some illustrations and final thoughts to leave you with:

The gap is too wide for us to cross on our own . . . Luke 16:26 We try to get across by religion or good works . . . Titus 3:5 The only way across is by believing in Jesus. . . John 3:16 Question:

Are you like the “Rich Man”? or Are you like “Lazarus”? What is important to you? Are you going to put all your time and energy into gathering a bunch of “stuff” on this earth? Or Are you going to use what God has given you to help others get into the kingdom of God? The rich man thought he was just going to be able to enjoy his riches on this earth and then take them with him to Heaven! NOT!

God loves you so much, but HE WILL NOT force you to go to Heaven. IT’S YOUR CHOICE! Have you made the right choice? Do you think you might have friends who have died and are hoping YOU will repent?

. . In Heaven! What other lessons did you learns? 1. ______

2. ______

3. ______

4. ______Boys and girls, I’m assuming you have repented and asked the Lord Jesus to forgive you of your sins . . . But just in case you haven’t and would like to avoid the same fate as the rich man in this lesson, continue reading and follow the steps listed! This will be the greatest and best decision you will ever make! Remember: The only people in Heaven aren’t good people . . . The only people in Heaven are forgiven people! And, Jesus didn’t come into the world to make bad people good, but to make dead people live!

God bless you, and I’ll see you next week!

You can do it right now! It’s a free gift that God wants to give you! It’s free to you, but it cost Jesus everything . . . His life! And He willingly and obediently gave it for YOU because HE LOVES YOU!!!

Keep Reading . . . 1. Acknowledge you are a sinner (disobedient to God), repent and turn from your sin. Tell Jesus you’re sorry and ask Him to help you change. 2. Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, and trust that Jesus paid the full penalty for your sins. 3. Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and surrender your life to Him. 4. Receive Jesus as your Savior, and believe that God has come into your life. If it is your sincere desire to receive Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior, then talk to God from your heart. The precise words you use are not important. He knows the intentions of your heart. If you are unsure of what to pray, this might help you put it into words: “LORD JESUS, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe YOU died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever. JESUS, I repent of my sin and turn to you. Please come into my life, forgive my sins and save me. I trust in YOU for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life.” In the mighty name of JESUS, Amen!

These basic practices will help you grow closer to Christ, love Him more, and help you share His love with others:

1. Read God’s Word (the Bible) daily – this is how He speaks to you. As you learn more about Him and obey His Word, you will become more like Him. 2. Pray daily – “Teach us to pray,” the disciples asked Jesus, and He taught them the simple prayer in :1-4. Prayer is simply talking with God. 3. Share your faith – once you have experienced new life in Christ, you will want to share His love and forgiveness with others. 4. Attend a Bible-believing church – this will help you grow in your new life in Christ, as you learn from the teaching of God’s Word, and be encouraged together with other believers. We’re here to help you understand the love that Jesus is offering you for free, no matter who or where you are.
