DIVISION I WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2018 Championships 2 History 14 Team Finishes 28 All-Time Team Results 34 2018 CHAMPIONSHIPS Penn State edges Ohio State for seventh team title in eight years: It might have been the most exciting 15 seconds in NCAA Wrestling Championship his- tory. Ohio State’s Myles Martin, a champion in 2016 with a win over Penn State’s Bo Nickal, a freshman at the time, fired a powerful double-leg shot late in the first period of the 184-pound national championship match. Nickal (31-0), a national champion in 2017, flipped Martin to his back with a high-flyer and, with 31 seconds left, scored a monumental pin. The pin put the Nittany Lions up by 12½ points and wrapped up a seventh NCAA team title in eight years. Penn State totaled 141½ points to Ohio State’s 134½ points. Three of Nickal’s teammates – Zain Retherford, Jason Nolf, and Vincenzo Joseph — also won individual honors and three others finished among the top eight. Retherford finished his career with 94-straight wins and a third national title, beating Lock Haven’s Ronnie Perry, 6-2, in the 149-pound final. The first of five Penn State finalists, Retherford’s win cut the Buckeye deficit to two points. A match later, junior Nolf (26-1) cruised by North Carolina State’s Hayden Hidlay and the Nittany Lions regained the lead over their Big Ten brethren 132½ to 130½. Iowa finished a distant third with 97 points. Michigan (80) and North Carolina State (80) rounded out the top five.

DIVISION I WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2015 Championships 2 History 14 Team Finishes 28 All-Time Team Results 34 2015 CHAMPIONSHIPS HIGHLIGHTS Logan Stieber joined an exclusive club at the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The senior 141-pounder for Ohio State beat Edinboro’s Mitchell Port, 11-5, on March 21 to win a fourth national title and become just the fourth wrestler in NCAA history to accomplish that feat. “This is something I have dreamed about since I came to Ohio State,” said Stieber, who finished 29-0 this season and a 119-3 career for the Buckeyes. “To finally do it is unbelievable.” Two slick first-period takedowns built a small cushion. Stieber scored another takedown and took a 7-2 lead and 2:38 of riding time to the final two minutes of his collegiate career. A double-leg midway through the third made it 10-2. Port (36-2), also a senior, made one last push by scoring a late takedown, but it was too little, too late as the capacity crowd at Scottrade Center in St. Louis came to its feet and gave Stieber a standing ovation. Following the tournament the Outstanding Wrestler Award also belonged to Stieber. Stieber is the leader of a Buckeye squad that claimed the program’s first team title. Ohio State totaled 102 points, 16 more than second place Iowa. Edinboro, at 75.5, finished a program-best third, with Missouri, Cornell and Penn State rounding out the top six. Stieber’s teammate, freshman Nathan Tomasello, opened his collegiate career with a national title at 125 pounds.
