{Num}1. to Don Bernardo Fusari at Rovereto
1. To Don Bernardo Fusari at Rovereto Stresa, 3 January 1847 . This evening I find myself shut in by the snow in the Casa Bolongaro, and I want to write a few lines to my beloved Don Bernardo. Do not think that you are idle while you find yourself there at Rovereto relieved of the care of the college; for you are doing very much - indeed you are doing everything that matters in this world - as long as you are doing the most loveable and holy will of God. It is certain that divine wisdom always has its reasons for whatever it does or allows. Sometimes we are unable to see those reasons, because of our defective sight; but God’s reasoning is in reality both brilliant light and life-giving pure fire. So be happy! Keep up a holy cheerfulness, and give thanks without ceasing. Remember our dear Don Giulio [Todeschi], ever with ‘Deo Gratias’ [Thanks be to God] on his lips. Our beloved and faithful Don Angeli has gone before us to his heavenly dwelling; he will pray for us, and we for him. It may be that before long we shall meet, since the Verona foundation will call me there. The imperial decree for it has come. I commend this work to your prayers and those of Don Antonio Gasperini - whom I ask you to greet for me. I wish you both every blessing in this New Year. Your affectionate servant and friend, A. ROSMINI p. 2. To Don Pietro Bertetti atTortona Stresa, 2 January 1847 My dear brother in Christ, I approve of your idea of waiting until the coming holidays, and then detaching yourself from everything. -
The Bible, Images and Writing in the Vatican Apostolic Library”
Nr. 4, November-December 2017 he true joy which is experienced in the family is not something random and fortuitous. It is a joy produced by deep harmony among people, which allows them to savour the beauty of being together, of supporting each other on life’s journey. Pope Francis Happy Holidays Architectural “Masks” in the Library The Architect Marco Petreschi has established a friendly relationship with the Vatican Apostolic Li- brary, to which he has recently donated a collection of his own drawings, destined for the General Drawings Collection. Within the group of drawings, we can find designs for an underground library that drew its inspi- ration from the Piranesi style, as well as different archi- tectural projects that stimulate the imagination of even an untrained observer. Professor Petreschi, an academic in Composition- al Architecture in Rome as well as abroad, is a visiting professor and guest lecturer at several universities in America and Europe. It has been said that he is “an author, who, heedless of the trends in style that have traversed Italy in recent decades, has unflinchingly fol- lowed his own path, a path that may be characterized as ironical in its attitude towards current affairs and their claims to power, physical in his affectionate rela- tionship with materials and techniques to master them, subject to design as a complete and aesthetic control of space, never indifferent to history but careful to create a proper distance from it” (L. Molinari, 2007). The architectural proposals of Marco Petreschi are the fruit of a journey undertaken along the roads which span across history; the artisan identifies himself with the eras that he visits, and continues to put on the “dress” of each. -

Italian Books
Italian Books I Philobiblon Rome London New York In collaboration with Govi Rare Books, New York Italian Books I Spring 2019 Preface We are very pleased to present Philobiblon’s new publishing initiative Italian Books, a series of numbered catalogues devoted to the important place of Italian culture on the world stage. The catalogues will feature manuscripts, documents, printed books, engravings, drawings, and artist’s books produced in Italy, as well as Italian books printed outside the country, translations attesting to the impact of Italian culture abroad, including volumes finely bound by sought-after Italian binders, and those once owned by great protagonists of Italian book collecting. Together these selections will illuminate a journey into the multifarious Italian book world in the broadest and richest sense. After all, the history of the book itself is a fascinating narrative, an uninterrupted medley of fruitful cultural transfers and the migration of ideas. In this regard, Italy has always represented a unique crossroad among cultures, the custodian of ancient past, as well as the gateway between Western and Eastern worlds, whose academies, art collections, libraries, printing houses, and bookshops have provided, over the centuries, fertile meeting grounds for generations of scholars, bibliophiles, and connoisseurs. In the first decades of the twentieth century, two international exhibitions paid homage to the Italian book. The Mostra Storica dell’Arte della Stampa in Italia opened in Leipzig in 1914 and presented the magnificence of Italian book production from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The splendid Exposition du Livre Italien followed in Paris in 1926, mounted at the Bibliothèque Nationale and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. -

Palazzo Querini Stampalia Portego
Palazzo Querini Stampalia Museum Portego entrance Giovanni Mythology Bellini room room The earliest documents concerning the construction of the palace are from 1513-14 and point to Nicolò Querini as commissioner of the works. Grandson Francesco continued the works of enlargement and restoration in various stages throughout the first half of the century. From this period archival documents note nothing of importance until the acquisitions of the following century: in 1614 the building which is now the east wing of the palace and in 1653 part of the house between the canal and the church in Campo Santa Maria Formosa. The last radical transformation of Ca’ Querini was between 1789 and 1797 for the occasion of the marriage in 1790 between Alvise, son of Zuanne, and Maria Teresa Lippomano. In addition to the elevation of the third floor, completed after 1795, there was a large scale restructuring of the interiors with the reduction of the length of the portego and the evolution of the decorative scheme on which worked Jacopo Guarana, Davide Rossi, ornamentalist Giuseppe Bernardino Bison, gilder Domenico Sartori and brothers and stucco workers Giuseppe and Pietro Castelli. The museum is presented in such a way as to recall a patrician residence of the eighteenth century with the display of all of the collections of the family: furnishings, porcelain, sculpture, fabrics, chandeliers, globes, as well as paintings, in order to bring to life the spaces once truly inhabited by the Querini. A rich theatre where every detail plays an important role, from the fabrics in some rooms woven according to original patterns, to the curtains and the pelmets which adorn the windows to the original chandeliers. -

Arturo Grigioni La Libera Università Di Urbino. Dall
