VESUVIUS VOLCANO

Following it’s eruption in 79 AD, the city of Pompeii was completely destroyed. HIPPOCRATICA CIVITAS

The educational museum of the School of Medicine is a virtual museum where live again, in a story engaging, and rigorous but essential themes and protagonists of that glorious page of history that, in the years immediately following the year one thousand, he saw with his Salerno Medical School the center of the scientific renaissance of the West. The culture, the issues of multiculturalism and the history of the medieval Mediterranean are entrusted to a narrative on time of 45 minutes. The Garden of Minerva, this area of outstanding cultural value, identified today, in fact, in the Garden of Minerva, had cultivated some of the plants were obtained from which the active ingredients used for therapeutic purposes. Matthew silvatica, the teacher who founded the first botanic garden in Salerno in Europe, it also carries a real educational activities to show students of the Medical School of the plants with their names and their characteristics. POMPEII

PAESTUM

Paestum, named by the Romans and Poseidonia by the Greeks, is located in the eastern Gulf of Salerno. It was one of the richest and most flourishing Greek colonies in Southern Italy along the west coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. In 273 it became a Roman colony under the name of Paestum. It dates back to 510 with the construction of the three temples known as the Basilica, the Temple of Poseidon and the Temple of Ceres. The rediscovery of Paestum dates back to 1762, when a modern road was built crossing through the city. The beauty of the three temples of Hera, Athena and Neptune is considered second only to that of the temples in Athens….

GROTTE DI PERTOSA

Immersed in the green of the Cilento National Park, the caves appear as a real natural museum. The origins of the Grotte di Pertosa trace back to some 35 million years ago and are the most important caves in the south of Italy. The inside of the caves are crossed by a small river, which permits visiting some places only by small boat. Organised here, in this beautiful setting is a theatrical performance of Dante’s Inferno. The event takes place on Saturday evenings. The Botonical Museum presents the natural flora and the biodiversity of the plants from Cilento and the Vallo di Diano with herbaria collections, seeds, wood, bulbs and fossils. An insect exhibition will be showing from March.
