SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ADVENT: HELP & HOPE

Hope “is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation of positive outcomes relat- ed to events and circumstances in one's life or the world at large.” For many people, hope- less is more often their attitude. Poverty, food insecurity, violence, drug and alcohol abuse block their ability to find hope in the reality of their daily lives. Advent is our season of hope and each year we offer you the Giving Tree on which the needs of members of our commu- nity are displayed in the hope that someone will provide the dream item written on the tag. The agencies that ask for our assistance are described below. Are you able to provide hope to someone less fortunate this Advent season?

What are you doing for Advent this year? With all these opportunities to give hope to oth- ers, what are you doing for yourself? Advent is not a passive season, it is not a season to be celebrated only on Sunday at Mass, it is not a season for buying, and cleaning, and deco- rating (though it’s okay to be doing those things.) Advent is a season for reflection – a sea- son to clean and prepare your heart for the coming of our Savior on Christmas day. We are all busy, we all have challenges and times of darkness but Advent offers the opportunity to find hope for ourselves. Why not celebrate Advent this year? It can be as simple as getting Advent is our season of hope and up 10 minutes early each day and committing to using those 10 minutes to sit quietly and listen and pray. To find peace in your life and fill your heart with hope. May celebrating each year we offer you the Giving Advent bring you to Christmas joy!
