About the Contributors

José Machado is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Informatics of the University of Minho, in , , where he has been since 1988. He got his PhD in Informatics, in 2002, and Habilitation in 2011, and he is now the Director of the Computer Science and Technology Centre (in Portuguese CCTC) and the header of the Computer Science and Technology Group of Centro ALGORITMI. His research interests span the domain of Knowledge and Data En- gineering, Health Informatics and Artificial Intelligence. He is the author of over 200 papers in international books, journals and conference proceedings.

António Abelha is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics of the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. He got his PhD in 2004. He is a mem- ber of ALGORITMI research centre and co-founder of the Knowledge and Data Engineering Lab. His research interests span the domain of Knowledge and Data Engineering, Health Informatics and Artificial Intelligence. He is the author of over 150 papers in international books, journals and conference proceedings.

Vasco Abelha is an MsC student in Informatics Engineering from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal.

Jalel Akaichi received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sciences and Technologies of Lille (France) and then his Habilitation degree from the University of Tunis (Tunisia) where he is currently a Professor in the Computer Science Department. He has published in international journals and conferences, and has served on the program committees of several international conferences and journals. He is currently the Chair of the Master Science in Business Intelligence. He visited and taught in many institutions such as the State University of New York, Worcester Institute, INSA-Lyon, University of Blaise Pascal, 1, just to refer a few. About the Contributors

Ana Alpuim obtained an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informatics) in 2014 from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal.

Magda Amorim obtained an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informatics) in 2014 from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal.

Cesar Analide is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho, and a researcher of the group Computer Science and Technology (CST) of Centro ALGORITMI. Also, he is founder member of the ISLab - Intelligent Systems Laboratory, a branch of the CST group of ALGORITMI. His main interests are in the areas of knowledge representation, intelligent agents and multi-agent systems, sensorization and com- putational sustainability.

Nouha Arfaoui received her master degree in management computing from High Institute of Management, Tunis, Tunisia. She is currently a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Prof. Jalel Akaichi and assistant in Faculty of Sciences Gabes. Her research is centered on the design of data warehouse schema and she has published in international journals and conferences.

Luis Barreiro is an MsC student in Informatics Engineering from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal.

Wilfred Bonney is currently working as a Health Informatics Specialist at the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom. He holds a Doctor of Philoso- phy (Ph.D.) degree in Information Technology from Capella University; a Master of Health Informatics (MHI) degree from Dalhousie University; and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Information Technology from the International University in Germany. His research interests include health data standards, business intelli- gence, data mining, knowledge management, algorithms, research methods, survey design, scientific and statistical computing. He has published and presented research papers at major conferences in Health Informatics and Information Systems. He is also fluent in seven spoken languages including German, Russian, and Lithuanian.

Andreia Brandão obtained an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informatics) in 2014 from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal.

Luciana Cardoso obtained an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informatics) in 2013 from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal. Currently, she is working towards her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minho in Portugal under the topic of “Semantic Interoperability Issues with openEHR archetypes.”

Ana Coimbra is an MsC student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Infor- matics) from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. She is a researcher of ALGORITMI research centre.

Andrea Domingues is an MsC student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informatics) from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. She is a researcher of ALGORITMI research centre.

Julio Duarte holds a PHD in Biomedical Informatics since 2015. He is a teacher of the Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave and a Pos-Doc researcher of the ALGORITMI research Centre, in the Computer Science and Technology Group and the Knowledge and Data Engineering Lab.

Marisa Esteves is an MsC student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Infor- matics) from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. She is a researcher of ALGORITMI Centre.

Ricardo Faria is an MsC student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informat- ics) from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal.

Bruno Fernandes is an MsC student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical In- formatics) from the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. He is a researcher of ALGORITMI Centre.

Simão Frutuoso holds a degree in Medicine in 1985, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oporto. He specialized in Paediatrics in 1993. His areas of interests are Neonatology, Intensive Cares and Transfontanellar ultrasound. He is a physician in Hospital Santo Antonio in Centro Hospitalar of Oporto.

Filipe Portela was born in Trofa, Portugal and went to the University of Minho in Guimarães, where he studied Information Systems and obtained his degree in 2007 (Lic), 2009 (MSc) and 2013 (PhD). He belongs to the Research Centre ALGORITMI where he is developing his post-doctoral research work in the topic “Pervasive Intelligent Decision Support Systems”. His research was started in the INTCare R&D project (Intensive Medicine area) being then extended to education and public administration areas. He already has relevant indexed publications in the main research topics: Intelligent Decision Support Systems, Intelligent Systems, Per- vasive Data, Business Intelligence, Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery. He has also been co-organizer of several workshops and reviewer of many indexed journals and conferences in these topics. Currently he also is an Invited Assistant Professor of the Information Systems Department, School of Engineering, University of Minho, Portugal, where he has been supervising several master students in the areas above mentioned. He is always in a continuing looking for opportunities to research and innovation in the society. He is now teaching in the Polytechnic Institute of Oporto.

Cesar Quintas is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Informatics). He is a member of the Department of Information System of the Centro Hospitalar of Oporto, one of the main hospital centre of Portugal.

Maria Salazar is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Infor- matics). She is the header of the Department of Information System of the Centro Hospitalar of Oporto, one of the main hospital centre of Portugal.

Manuel Santos holds a PhD in Computer Science – Artificial Intelligence. Actu- ally he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems, School of Engineering, University of Minho, Portugal. He is the Investigator Responsible in research projects (grid data mining and intelligent decision support systems for intensive care). He is the head of the Intelligent Data Systems group in the R&D Centre Algoritmi. He has around 200 publications in conference proceedings, chapter books and journals. His main interests are: Knowledge Discovery from Databases and Data Mining, Intelligent Decision Support Systems, Machine Learning.

Eva Silva obtained an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Infor- matics) in 2014 from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal.

Fábio Silva obtained an MSc degree in Informatics Engineering in 2011 from the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal. Currently, he is working towards his Ph.D. in Informatics at the University of Minho in Portugal. Also, he is a member of the ISLab - Intelligent Systems Laboratory, a branch of the Computer Science and Technology (CST) group of ALGORITMI. His current research interests include, computational sustainability, energetic efficient systems and multi-agent support systems.

Henrique Vicente holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Évora in 2005. He is currently Assistant Professor at the Chemistry Department of the Uni- versity of Évora. He is a member of the Évora Chemistry Centre, and its research activities concentrated in the scientific areas of Chemical Environment; Quality Control of Lakes and Reservoirs of Water; Decision Support Systems; Multi-Agent Systems; Genetic and Evolutionary Programming; Logic Programming and Knowl- edge Discovery in Databases and Data Mining.
