Chef Aaron McCargo, Jr. Coming to Kansas City With Zesty New Recipes and Tips for No-Salt Cooking for National Kidney Month

Fresenius Medical Care Sponsors Culinary Tour to Introduce Delicious New Kidney-Friendly Cuisine for Restricted Diets

WALTHAM, Mass. – March 1, 2013 – Chef Aaron McCargo, Jr., sponsored by Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA), is embarking on a tour of four U.S. cities during March in recognition of National Kidney Month. McCargo – host of the Food Network show “Big Daddy’s House” – will visit FMCNA clinics in each city to meet with dialysis patients and their families to share kidney-friendly cooking tips, food samples and recipes developed in collaboration with FMCNA dietitians. WHAT: McCargo will share kidney-friendly cooking tips, food samples and recipes with dialysis patients and their families at three Kansas City FMCNA dialysis clinics. He also will unveil a recipe he created for Kansas City food enthusiasts, influenced by the region’s own cuisine.

Additionally, Chef McCargo will participate in the North Kansas City Missouri State BBQ Championship as a celebrity judge. During the event, he'll conduct two dialysis-friendly cooking demos.

WHY: There are an estimated 26 million Americans with chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is a progressive, usually permanent loss of kidney function. Many people who have CKD are still in the early stages of the disease, but by the time CKD leads to kidney failure, or end-stage renal disease (ESRD), the only treatments are a kidney transplant or dialysis.

WHEN On Friday, March 15, McCargo will be at FMCNA Rainbow Blvd Westwood from 9:30 to 11 a.m. He will be at FMCNA Kansas City from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. He will be at FMCNA Lee's Summit from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, March 16, McCargo will conduct cooking demos at the North Kansas City Missouri State BBQ Championship from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m.

He will also be at the Pancake Breakfast at 9am and the Fresenius Medical Care booth from 12 to 1 p.m., 3 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m.
