- Advertisement - Celebrity chef Aarti Sequeira now representing National Mango Board June 22, 2012 Aarti Sequeira, Food Network Star Season 6 winner and host of her own Aarti Party cooking show, has joined the National Mango Board as its new spokesperson. The celebrity chef and the board first partnered on a multi-city satellite and internet media tour to reach consumers in several important markets, as well as a packaged taping that will appear on cable and web television channels across the country. Ms. Sequeira, who Aarti Sequeirawas born in Mumbai, India, and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, grew up with a lifelong appreciation for food and cultivated her love for mangos from weekly visits to the fresh market with her father. Her 1 / 2 culinary expertise and genuine passion for mangos make her a perfect fit for joining forces with the board, according to a press release. "Aarti is a great addition to the board as our new spokesperson and we're very excited to have her share her wealth of mango knowledge," Megan McKenna, marketing director for the board, said in a June 22 press release. "She exudes great energy and brings a new, innovative twist to cooking with mangos that can inspire more consumers to experiment with fresh mangos in their homes. During the tour, Ms. Sequeira conducted 18 television, radio and blog interviews where she shared her favorite summer-themed mango recipes to show viewers how to incorporate the fruit into meals at home. These mango recipes included a savory mango BBQ sauce, refreshing mangalore salad, creamy mango lassi drink and a mango rice pudding. All recipes featured are available at www.mango.org/recipes. Ms. Sequeira also shared insight on mango nutrition and selection, while demonstrating easy steps on how to cut mangos for first-time users. Consumers in some markets will be able to view the mango demonstration on their local news station, with additional opportunities to see the segment on one of the many station websites that posted the video online. In addition to the tour, Ms. Sequeira and the board will showcase the creative fresh mango recipes during test kitchen seminars with major magazine publishers like Meredith publications in Des Moines, IA. Alvarez, Assistant to the City Manager SUBJECT: Sponsorship Request for Date Harvest Festival Ferris Wheel STAFF RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve a $5,400 sponsorship for naming rights and free Ferris Wheel rides for attendees of the Date Harvest Festival that will take place on November 9, 2019. BACKGROUND: As you may recall, City Council on June 12, 2019 approved sponsoring the Date Harvest Festival in-kind for the use of Las Flores Park and the use of the Coachella Library meeting rooms and park for the preceding Harvest Dinner Event. The events budget is approximately $208,000 and since the City Council’s approval the event’s Producer has been working diligently to gain sponsorships to cover the events’ expenses. To this end, the sponsorships that have been collected cover 75% of the total budget so far. The event’s Producer is currently working with local non-profits to presell tickets as a fundraiser where the non-profits get to keep 50% of the ticket proceeds. Additionally, the Producer has reached out to the Twentynine Palms Military Base where the Date Harvest Festival will allow free admission for those who serve in the military or who are military veterans. MEDIA/ADVERTISING The Date Harvest Festival has appeared in the Desert Sun, NBC Palm Springs, and National Public Radio (NPR). The Greater Palm Springs Convention Visitors Bureau has promised 25 Electronic Billboards in Los Angeles and San Diego along with advertising in airports in Canada.
