MORTUARY SCIENCE Program Description Funeral directors arrange the details and handle the logistics of funerals. This includes working with families to establish the location, dates and times of memorial services and burials, preparing obituary notices and coordinating who will officiate the final disposition of the remains. Most funeral directors are also trained and licensed embalmers – embalming is the cosmetic and preservative process through which the body is prepared for interment. The Mortuary Science program at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) is available as a result of a very unique cooperative partnership with Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. Our partnership with Carl Sandburg College gives you the opportunity to take some of your classes through EICC. Once accepted into the Carl Sandburg College program, you will take mortuary science related classes in Galesburg.
